You can't fire him without consequences...but you can babysit him. The new AD could make him wish he was gone.I am sure that will keep Dan awake at night!
No, what happens is the VP's boss would have a case running with HR- and it wouldn't take 2-4 years. Trust me! That person isn't getting paid to win ball games either. It's not the last 3 months that matters... it's what got you to this point. 4 consecutive mediocre or failed seasons. You are aware that Dan has had soon-to-be 7/9 seasons where he has either been barely above .500 or a losing season...and 6/8 with no postseason (unless you count his CBI then 5/8).So at State Farm or COUNTRY or Rivian or whatever, gets a new CEO. And every one knows there is a VP that hasn't been able to cut it, and that CEO doesn't fire the VP within 3 months then the CEO is trash and should be let go? It doesn't work that way man. In private sector or at a university. Heck, it would be easier in the private sector than at a public school.
Lyons has been on vacation/retirement pretty much since the day Brennan took over.Let’s be honest here, Kyle has met with Lyons many times, and likely Lyons is still somewhat active during the transition period(this may be a problem, as he’s probably telling Brennan how great muller is).

Fair response. Some might say even longer back that that.
To those that say ISU doesn’t have the money. Look at how much they have wasted or were going to waste on Covid testing.Let’s be honest here, Kyle has met with Lyons many times, and likely Lyons is still somewhat active during the transition period(this may be a problem, as he’s probably telling Brennan how great muller is). Dietz knows the muller situation. It’s not like Brennan has absolutely no clue about Dan’s career or job performance and needs any more time to assess the situation.
It’s pretty simple to me, if the university had the hunger to seriously compete and win, Muller would be gone around 1030 tomorrow night.
it was also convenient of Lyons to retire and duck the responsibility of handing this situation. Larry will go down in history as setting ISU Basketball back several years. His legacy is one of failure and inept decisions. Larry Lyons has failed ISU.
Have you listened to Brennan at all? He’s commented several times that he was meeting with Larry to understand what he was working with. Larry even went to multiple basketball games and sat in the suite with Brennan. So to suggest Larry was gone the day he retired is incorrect.Lyons has been on vacation/retirement pretty much since the day Brennan took over.

Pantagraph: ISU President Larry Dietz mentioned in a December interview with the Pantagraph that the university was focusing on a bubble for a practice facility. Is that still the current direction your department is headed?
Brennan: “I still have more research to do on it. Larry (Lyons) has been out on vacation since I started. When he gets back, he and I are going to look over the plans we have. I have more educating of myself I need to do on that.
Must be a stay cation considering Larry attended at minimum two b-ball games and sat in the suite with Kyle. Also thanks for proving my point, Kyle wants to sit down and go over the facility plans with Larry. Larry is very much still in the picture unfortunatelyFootball Q and A with new Illinois State athletic director Kyle Brennan

Very good article, IMHO. Lot's of names and speculation.College basketball's 2021 hot seat and coaching carousel: Who's out, who's next?
Embattled Indiana coach Archie Miller is among the primary hot seat names, but could IU find a better alternative?www.espn.com
We made the list.
Can we just put this thread (and all other threads that turn into “Fire Muller”) to sleep for now, and let the new AD & President make the decision as to how they will choose to move forward with the future of the Men’s Basketball Program? I think we all have zero questions as to how everyone in this thread now feel about the program and the current coach.
