Rico - I know your stance on Dan and your feelings how his coaching has totally disrespected the b-ball program and University. OK - get it but tell me why you think ISU Red is the best job in the League. Sleeping Giant and all that but detail as I'd like to learn and be mentored on that subject.

Thank you.

Dan is gone from what I'm hearing. Perhaps he'll pull a surprise and win a Thursday game. But I'm pretty confident he'll be fired by March Madness.
This way the AD can go hunt a top assistant somewhere or perhaps grab the Wright State coach

This is from the MVC coaches.

Let’s hope this is accurate.

I agree, I like the players we have, but no confidence Muller can get them to win.

At some point you have to change the direction. Some players will leave and the new coach will bring in players to fill in. If Drake can win an MVC title in one recruiting class, I don’t see how a new competent coach can’t do something similar at ISU. We have the best job in the league.
This excuse makes me laugh. Players are leaving every season regardless if he is here, or isn’t. Rip the bandaid off, and start the rebuilding.

I don’t know what Rico thinks about Dan. I think he should tell us. I’m curious.
It’s simple- he has had 1 good season! Enough said! What do you think of him? I know you can brag on his grades as a student, he is a likeable guy to those that don’t ask him tough questions. Unfortunate for the program- those things don’t win games. Can he recruit? Can he develop talent? Can he coach X’s and O’s?
At the end of the day...does he win? We ain’t talking about 3rd place neither! We sit around this forum and act like making $600,000 is chump change. It’s obviously enough that we debate can we afford to buy him out! Ben Jacobson is missing his best player...and out coached Dan twice!

Wright State to ISU is a lateral move.

Hyperbole
It’s not hyperbole. Most of the responses for keeping him are the cost of the buyout! It’s not that he is deserving of the job. It’s the cost of the buyout makes it impossible. I thought Larry’s one claim to fame was he was a fundraiser. If Larry couldn’t fundraise 1.5 mil to can Dan...he was dead weight himself!

Larry’s one claim to fame was never that he was a fundraiser. He was the compliance guy. He was also a stop gap solution that ended up being longer-term than originally intended. He brought Aaron Leetch back specifically to be AD-in-waiting. Unfortunately, we had a plane crash. And I’m not convinced that anyone still with the department has been the same since.

Simple question...when Dan signed the extension, was he looking out for good ole State U or himself?

If it is true about what has been said about his extension, he gets canned and we pay him his entire contract amount or he gets a new gig and he pays ISU $50K, then he clearly was looking out for #1. And quite frankly, I do not blame him. If Larry Lyons was that inept to sign such a crappy contract then Dan did what he should have done.

Dan's biggest win at ISU was signing the extension and dunking on Larry Lyons.

I hope ISU reached out to Lyons last week and asked for a contribution for athletics.

I misinterpreted what you intended. I (believe I) am in agreement with you. The hyperbole referenced those who think $ are not even a consideration.

And you throw in the hundreds of thousands his wife makes. The Muller household has profited nicely from their vacation in Bloomington-Normal.
That's a cheap shot. What his wife makes has nothing to do with whether Dan should be fired, or Larry Lyons made a horrible mistake, or whether we have cash to buy him out. They did not vacation in Bloomington-Normal. I understand people don't like the job Dan did and that he should be fired. There is no need to bring his wife into the equation. That's low. Lyons presented a contract extension to Dan. It was obviously a contract heavily in his favor and a terrible one for the University. If any of us were offered that kind of security in our jobs, we would have signed it too. Dan has underachieved. We all know it. He knows it. But, a contract is a contract. Now the University has to make a decision. Blame Lyons for the contract; blame Dan for the state of the basketball program; leave his wife out of it.

The plane crash... yeah horrible, unfortunate and many great, smart valuable people lost their lives. Truly a tragic moment.

However it’s been 6 years now. Dan and the athletic department has had plenty of time to recover and rebuild. This is no longer an excuse for the programs failures.
