‘Birds are really going to miss Ian Wagner if we can’t even attempt a kick there.

Special teams looks like a real concern.

Rough, but we looked good at times. Not sure what to think about the rest of the season, given the injuries. If those didn't happen, i think we would've gotten to the endzone. I'd also feel pretty excited to see what we do in conference play. As it stands, I'm uncertain.

2 of our next 3 games are very interesting. EIU loses by 7 to NIU and SIU is currently getting hammered by Icarnate Word?? Which after a little research, IW looks like an up and coming program in FCS. We need to be 3-1 heading into the UNI game.

Quit punting the damn ball. We were not going to win this game but we had opportunities to put players in position to play for a little pride. I can’t believe I have to say it, but that was some chicken shit play calling. We were playing to “not get blown out.” That was pathetic.

I wasn't quite as "angry" as you seem, but yeah, I said to Mrs. MadBird, for cripes sake, we need points on the board. 3 wasn't gonna be enough, but at least it was a start, so let's get some. If you take away Zach's awful 100 yd. pick 6 and get 3 there, and 3 later instead of the 30 yd punt, you at least have a start with 6 points and look like you have a bit of a chance. Or some pride. I sure hope we have a kicker who can get us three from 40 or 45 yards.

Agreed. Really hurts to lose Mueller. I think we had a couple of really good backs who complimented each other well.

Let’s get out of there without any other injuries.
Hoping Mueller can rehab for next season after the fracture and possible dislocation

We needed something. Punting wasn’t what the Dr. ordered.

Redbirds 3

Illinois State receives the kickoff and drives for a FG. I manage to position myself for a selfie with the scoreboard in the background. Redbirds 3 Badgers 0. The rest of the game is a blur.
With about 2 min to go in the 1st Q it was 0-0 and the Redbirds had a 3rd down play around the Wisconsin 10-yard line. My makeup people were getting me ready for my selfie in case the 'Birds kicked the go ahead FG on 4th down. Instead the Badgers ran the INT back 100 yards.
Oh well, the stadium lighting wasn't working for me anyway.

Yes, we have depth at tailback, but Mueller was our best and he has already had to fight back from a previous injury He looked to be in rare form with 3 carries for 21 yards against the Badgers. Please let him be healthy in '23. The rest of you guys? Next Men Up.

"Assess it" from a football play perspective - but hey i'm the "stupid" one. I'll make sure to include a Beware Viewing- Matt might get his drawers in a wad disclaimer next time

Word is Badgers are hiring Luke Fickell from Cincinnati. Kinda surprised, I was sure the whole deal - canning Chryst - was about keeping Jimmy Leonhard around, but he was kind of underwhelming as interim, so there you go. New AD, former UW player, goes outside the family to replace two former Badgers.
