Why not St. Louis as the location of the FCS National Championship game??

By the way, I would fully assume that NCAA has marketing people trying to identify more optimal host cities for various playoff events. They would be stupid if they didn't take a proactive interest in convincing prospective host cities and venues. They do this for a living and stand to benefit from better venues and more stability so they don't have to worry about accepting a bid from someone who can't deliver on a venue. They have to make sure the prospective hosts know what they are doing. So the idea that NCAA sits back passively in this regard, and simply waits for the best bid ... makes no sense to me. The bid MUST be evaluated. No different than olympics, just much smaller scale ... and far less corrupt.

if they don't do this ... yeesh.

Unfortunately, the FCS championship likely means much more to a place like Frisco then it does for a place like New Orleans. Thus, I don’t see it moving from there for the foreseeable future. I say unfortunately because the actual city of Frisco offers nothing really different than what you see in just about every cookie-cutter suburban metropolitan area in the country. Not sure how many people would go to Frisco for a trip if there wasn’t a meaningful game being played there. One thing Dallas does have is good central location, weather, and plentiful and inexpensive nonstop airfare options.

I am not holding my breath, but I would love making a weekend of it in New Orleans, Vegas, Florida, Memphis, Nashville, St.Louis, and yes...even Chattanooga.

Two issues for me:

Yes, the NCAA does have the marketing, etc. Minneapolis just was awarded the women's basketball final four, and I have read about the "negotiations" that went on to get it there. NCAA was impressed with the Super Bowl handling, etc.

Was marking up my calendar for FCS playoff dates (and DIII playoff dates too) and came upon this sheet, which indicates some of the issues that schools/cities are required to address when bidding to be a host.

Well makes sense why no St Louis...they are known for their poor instant replay cabling.

I guess I'll take this opportunity to remind everyone that St Louis could be the front runner for MLS' next franchise. A 22K seat stadium next to Union Station is planned.

Is the MLS playing in early March? I'd assume not, but if so that would make Arch Madness a lot less fun with that next door.

Indeed, the MLS starts in early March. The Chicago Fire open at home March 2nd this year.

Quinn, are you worried about traffic? Hopefully they are smart enough not to schedule a home game that weekend. I always like it when new stadiums go up. That's practically all that cities are for these days.

The weather outside suuuuucks. If you aren't going to play the game in a dome, you have to play it in a better weather situation. Since the FCS title game isnt selling out half of most domes, they are out. You don't want the National Championship decided because you are playing in mud, snow or freezing cold. Even though the game we played in Frisco was cold (I want to say about 36 degrees), that was a freakish outlier. Typically Dallas/Frisco is like 50 degrees or so in January and tends to be pretty dry. The stadium size is right and you can fly there from anywhere in the country (mainland) in under 3 hours. Would I selfishly LOVE to see it at SeatGeek Stadium (Formerly Toyota Park) in Bridgeview? Yes, but the weather here in January just isn't predicable enough to support that. Further, there are very few hotels in the immediate area and, even though it is in "Chicagoland", it is in a pretty bad part of it. This isn't exactly the Gold Coast here.

St. Louis tends to have equally trash winters.

Frisco has the housing, weather, central location, stadium and local tourism to handle an event lke this year in, year out. The only other place I can think of is New Orleans, but the weather there is unpredictable as well.

You'd think but I don't put things like this past pro teams.

At least it's a couple of years away.
