You know what they say -- all press is good press in the end. Gets your name out there. Gregg Marshall and Mark Turgeon put the most people in seats. Can't even argue RPJ with a straight face

Brennan appears very sharp and yes, he too will b a career climber. He’ll bring in someone who will immediately generate fan interest with Drive and Personality - the ability to market the Birds.
I’m guessing and planning on neither new coach or AD being present at end of 4 year term.
Now to b a tad provocative, Spack should b taking a very close look at what’s happening on campus - prayers for the right Portal QB’s and skilled players to find their way to Normal.
I was thinking the same thing about Spack. Another season like 2021 and the seat will be very hot. I don't think Brennan really cares about 2015. He has momentum going with fundraising and most likely doesn't have the patience for a program that's not in the playoffs.

Howard has a better resume than Powell, but Powell has a better reputation as a person and coaching talent.
I was living in Urbana in the mid-2000s and there was an interesting story going around at the time which was generally considered to be true. Bill Self had left for Kansas and a lot of Illinois players were unhappy, Dee Brown in particular. Jerrance Howard talked to Dee and the rest of the team and convinced them that they would be a Final Four team if they just stuck together.
Howard was far from being a star on a team that had Deron Williams and Dee Brown as on-court leaders. But it was Howard that was the conscience of the team at a critical moment, he was the convincer, the motivator, the recruiter and that has always stuck with me.

Jans and 3G's are despicable choices - if they were chosen to represent my alma mater, I'd stop following the program - just too much baggage and unbecoming personal stuff vs. success for the school I love.

RPJr. would be fine, but I wonder why Jerrance Howard's name and Dean Oliver's don't come up more?

Stallings or Turgeon would be dream gets, but I'm guessing K.S. is content watching Jake catch for the Pirates and Turtle is sitting on the K-State gig.

Yak has his own thing going at UIC coming into The Valley. Same goes for, damn, Travis Ford would be perfect.

It will be crucial to have solid assistants. Dan was one for a long time, and raised some as well. Porter's career spike was transcendent after he left here, took some time under Majerus (r.i.p.) and now look at his "tree" - Mullins, Valentine, his own hike to OU.

It might be weird, but why not bring in a young AC for their first HC gig and have a Coach Rich or Jud around to add to up-and-comer (and all-time fave) Wills?

In the end, if we can steal Gates from Cleveland (not a) State, I'd be thrilled.
I have mentioned Gates, Oliver and Howard several times. All are intriguing possibilities.

I agree the coaches selection of AC will be crucial. It was One of the things that I believe hurt Dan after the 2017 season.

Ok, so let’s be clear, if stallings said I want the job you would be happy or you’d say no thanks?
It was a rhetorical statement, you dolt. There's obviously no way it's a possibility. Yet to answer just another of your antagonistic, childish trolling queries, I would be dissatisfied if Kevin Stallings became the next coach.

After a few days (still don't agree with the timing of the termination) I believe it is time to go young/up-and-comer AC & outside any "connections"

Thanks for cleaning it up. I agree that Stallings is not a good choice. I was confused by you stating he and turgeon would be dream hires. I think it’s easy how that could be misconstrued. also, what is a dolt?

Just thinking out loud: have any of us loud-mouths considered how Brian Jones finishes the year?
Yes. As a friend of mine who served as AC and then interim-HC for a coach who was fired, “No AC has ever been given the HC job after the HC he served was fired for poor performance.”

Turgeon and Stallings were non-starters.

A dolt is an ignorant idiot that speaks without thinking or reference.

Anything else while you spew problems without legitimate solutions?

You wanna post your ISU resume, I'll be happy to post mine.

Lastly, the buzz around the program would be greater under Powell as he is the far bigger star in this state.
I agree with your post, but I personally find Dean Oliver a bigger name (even in Illinois) as a standout player for Iowa and getting a cup of coffee for 2 years with the Golden State Warriors.

Marshall does not put more fans in the seats than Powell. I mean, just look at the poll on this site. It’s it’s that lopsided here, you think the townies welcome GG? That’s just pure silliness.
