Turgeon and Stallings were non-starters.

A dolt is an ignorant idiot that speaks without thinking or reference.

Anything else while you spew problems without legitimate solutions?

You wanna post your ISU resume, I'll be happy to post mine.
Your original post was stallings was a dream hire. And then start getting into Stallings personal life on why he wouldn’t take the job. So that makes you a dolt.

Then after someone posts that stallings has left his last program in shambles you redefine your definition of dream hire. Another dolt comment.

And then you call out the person you called a dolt and ask them to post a resume.

You have to be a troll. There is no way you can be serious with this stuff.

Just thinking out loud: have any of us loud-mouths considered how Brian Jones finishes the year?
Sure, if he managed to catch lightning in a bottle ... if that even came close, he would probably be dead though.

You serious, Clark?

I mean, I really have zero interest in a guy who finished 190-218 at freaking North Dakota. But to each their own.

I was thinking the same thing about Spack. Another season like 2021 and the seat will be very hot. I don't think Brennan really cares about 2015. He has momentum going with fundraising and most likely doesn't have the patience for a program that's not in the playoffs.
Spacks seat should be hot.

At the end of the day the reality is that there are maybe 5-10 jobs in the country where your coach wouldn't be at risk of bolting. My take is get the next best up-and-comer, and don't worry about upward mobility. Keep getting great coaches, become a name in college basketball and don't worry about the rest. We were oh-so close in the past and couldn't take advantage of Creighton leaving (Wichita St did), and Wichita St leaving (Loyola did). Now it the time for ISU to leverage our financial advantages to become the premier players in the MVC. Belmont and Murray St bring additional credibility, we just need to dominate.

Powell will sell the most seats. In my humble opinion and ISU needs a cool $million to dig out the last contract hole. Powell probably gets more “free” media coverage. Can he be the head coach? Some University somewhere is going to find out. Give him 4 years to do it. No contracts longer than what an undergraduate is supposed to need to graduate. And if he does real good you can always add another year every year to a contract at any time. Just no more 7 year fiascos. And if he doesn’t work out only married to him for 3 more years. Lots of good candidates out there but one also has to ask are they willing to come to a program that has not danced since the last century and can ISU afford them?
Need to find that special someone who relishes a challenge. In regards to our coaching search, I have a ton more faith in our current AD than I did with our previous one.

I guess I’m a bit curious how Roger Powell Jr is this big name that’s going to draw in thousands to the games. Maybe some Illini fans come from time to time, but it’s not like he’s Rick Pitino or something.

I know his dad has a legacy here, but how many folks even know or care about that? I just don’t see Powell being hired on some assumption he’s going to sell tickets
Winning will sell tickets. Winning cures all that ails a program.

As a player @ UofI:
2-Big Ten League Championships
2-Big Ten League 2nd Place
2-Big Ten Conference Tournament Champion
10-4 NCAA Tournament Record
1-NCAA Championship game

I would conclude that this resume checks the boxes as knowing (and doing) what it takes to make it to an NCAA Finals, win a League Tournament Championship (2 times), and win a League Championship (2 times) as a player.

Assistant Coach @ Valparaiso 2011-16
2-NCAA Tournament 2013 & 2015
Assistant Coach @ Vanderbilt 2016-19
2-NCAA Tournament 2016 & 2017
Assistant Coach @ Gonzaga 2019-current
6-1 NCAA Tournament:
2019: 2-0 (Tournament suspended due to Covid)
2021: 4-1 Lost in NCAA Championship Game to Baylor

I would conclude that this resume checks the boxes as knowing (and doing) what it takes to make it to an NCAA Finals, win a League Tournament Championship, and win a League Championship as an Assistant Coach.

Will Roger Powell Jr bring some Illini fans into Redbird Arena because of his connection to the University of Illinois? Probably!! Is that why he should/would be offered the job (or fans wanting him to be), absolutely not. But we are definitely not going to complain about possibly picking up a few Illini fans attending Redbird basketball games.

Spack was just in the play-offs in 2019. Made it to the final 8 teams too. Think ISU ended up #7 in the polls.
I think most people throw out 2020 for multiple reasons.
That leaves 2021.

So you think the seat doesn't become hot with another 4-7 (2-6) season?

Spack is a decent coach but too inconsistent. Unless they plan on moving up no point in hiring a new football coach.

So much this this. Spack is 89-60 in his career and has only had 2 losing seasons in his time at ISU (not counting the spring season) . Since 2014 ISU has missed out on the playoffs 3x and had 3- 10 win seasons. I think the guy has built up enough credibility at the FCS level that he knows what he's doing.

Chris Jans lived my street when he was here as an assistant. His wife is an ISU alum. I think it would be very intriguing for him to come back - of course that would be if he would want to come back? However, is there anyone left in the upper levels of the Athletic Department that even remembers or knows he was here??? If they do remember or know - is that a good or not-so-good thing? I have no answers - only questions regarding Jans.
