I am all for Marshall a good coach generally learns after he gets fired.I would be glad to give him 4 years to turn the program around
Is Wichita nearly as good if Marshall is not a total tea bag to the players? What's he going to learn?

This is such an intriguing coaching search. Brennan could go so many directions. I’m a bit concerned about the rumored timeline for naming a replacement as it could lead to not casting a wide enough net. On the surface, I get wanting to get a head start for finding a coach as it could help landing a good candidate and it would allow that coach to hit the ground running when it comes to building a staff and recruiting.

On the other hand, we could have an unprecedented coaching carousel this off-season. There are so many aging coaches and programs that are starving for winning. Plus, many old coaches hogged a large portion of the Ws for so many years. Thus, there is a void of proven high major coaches. That is why last off-season unc, Duke, Arizona, and IU all turned to unproven HCs.

That trend will certainly continue. As strange as it may seem there are some candidates that may be interested in ISU under the right circumstances, but they want to see how the dominos fall because they could end up with a way better job. But with Benson’s purported timeline that he said on Peoria radio, not enough dominoes will have fallen so some of these candidates will likely hold off on pursuing ISU.

Dennis Gates could be one such example. In theory, ISU could conceivably hire away a Horizon League coach who is from Chicago and at a commuter school with little fan support. But as a longtime FSU AC, Cal alum, and Chicago native, he would be high on the list for FSU, Cal, Or NW if they were to open. But if they don’t, ISU could have a remote chance of landing him. Unfortunately, I don’t think the dust will be settled by the time ISU is reportedly hoping to announce the hire.

Here is my list of P6 jobs that could conceivably open.

ACC: Ga Tech, Clemson, NC State, Pitt, Cuse (ret.), FSU (ret.), Miami (ret.), Louisville, ND
(ret.) (9) Big 10: NW, Neb, Maryland (3). Big 12: KSU (firing/ret.), WVU (ret.) (2) Big East: Georgetown, Butler, St. John’s (3) SEC: UGA, UF, USC, miss st. (firing/ret.), miss (firing/ret.), Mizzou, Vandy (7), Pac 12: (ASU, UW, Cal, Stanford, Oregon st) (5) (29 P6 jobs in total)

Sign me up with Marshall. He'll have eyes all over him so he'll be good. Good to see he has no animosity towards Illinois State. What a big dick move to take Dan's job. Plus, I want to go shot for shot at the Pub II with his wife.

If experience means anything, Gates has a lot of it in the pros and college. Lots of exposure to many coaching philosophies.

NDSU Dave Richman led team to Big Dance 3 years (covid stopped the 4th)

he's all yours. You could pay him $280k/year and save money too.

He hit his players, he tried to start fights at RBA, and he’s a complete low life, but other than that…..
Hard pass here, I don’t see Brennan jeopardizing his own career with a known loose cannon. GGG has success on the court sure, but his antics off the court are enough for me to easily pass.

With that said, I would consider giving Jans a second chance. While both were in the wrong, it’s my understanding Jans’ was a drunk, isolated incident.

Hard pass. Sub-.500 at St. John's, including two losses to the Redbirds of Porter Moser.
What was Janks record at North Texas prior to landing at KU as an assistant? Porter didn’t even light the world on fire at ISU. Sometimes coaches get better after they’ve had a chance to work under better coaches. I stand with my choice. I was in favor of Judson years ago, but hey we’re here now.

Jank was 53-57 in 4 years at NTSU before resigning and going to Hutchinson CC, where he was 50-14 in 2 seasons. He resigned from NTSU because his AD demanded Jank schedule nothing but guarantee games for his non-con schedule.

Scene from HC interview:

AD Brennan: So what offense do you like to run?

Candidate: I really like the four guards out, high ball screen offense.

Brennan:Umm Ok. What do you like to do on inbounds plays?

Candidate : I like to spread out 4 across and just high lob to the top of the key.

Brennan: Thank you for your interest. Don’t call us, We’ll call you.

Lol...at inbounds play. Almost. Every. Single. Time. For 10 years!
