In other news.....SMU lost by 47 pts to UCF today. Good to see Captain Janks fall to the bottom of that league. He’s probably close to being done there. At least he got that 800k/year for a few years before he was exposed.

He can join the “still a millionaire” club with Tim Miles. It’s not a bad gig.

I think attendance is down because there is a LOT of bad basketball out there. Watching the ISU/Drake game, I just have to laugh sometimes as how poor the quality of play is. I believe this stretch of what 3 minutes best explains. I am only using this 3 minutes (of game time)because it was especially bad. This happens all the time in ISU / MVC basketball games. It's honestly just really hard to watch. I am sure in most leagues, bottom half teams are the same. But this happens to the top teams of the MVC. I watched Loyola today - they are inept offensively a lot of the time. Mo State knows they dont score and like playing low scoring games. Hate to say it - Fans want to see the ball going in the hole.

In summary:
3 points
7 turnovers
FG shooting: 1-7
Timeouts: 1 ISU timout, 1 media timeout
Excitement Level - OFF THE CHART!!!

17:54 Milik Yarbrough Turnover. 30 - 33
17:42 D.J. Wilkins made Three Point Jumper. Assisted by Noah Thomas. 33 - 33
17:39 Illinois State Timeout 33 - 33
17:25 Milik Yarbrough Turnover. 33 - 33
17:17 Noah Thomas Turnover. 33 - 33
17:09 Zach Copeland Turnover. 33 - 33
16:54 Noah Thomas missed Jumper. 33 - 33
16:54 Milik Yarbrough Defensive Rebound. 33 - 33
16:31 Zach Copeland missed Layup. 33 - 33
16:31 Nick McGlynn Defensive Rebound. 33 - 33
16:25 D.J. Wilkins missed Three Point Jumper. 33 - 33
16:25 Milik Yarbrough Defensive Rebound. 33 - 33
16:16 Milik Yarbrough missed Three Point Jumper. 33 - 33
16:16 Noah Thomas Defensive Rebound. 33 - 33
15:58 Nick McGlynn missed Jumper. 33 - 33
15:58 Phil Fayne Defensive Rebound. 33 - 33
15:47 Milik Yarbrough Turnover. 33 - 33
15:45 Brady Ellingson Steal. 33 - 33
15:39 Tremell Murphy missed Layup. 33 - 33
15:39 Milik Yarbrough Defensive Rebound. 33 - 33
15:32 Zach Copeland Turnover. 33 - 33
15:32 Official TV Timeout 33 - 33
15:23 Foul on Isaac Gassman. 33 - 33
15:17 Noah Thomas Turnover. 33 - 33
15:16 Phil Fayne Steal. 33 - 33

Hey. That was salty, Sam

I am not sure why the Jankovich hating?

His ISU record
Illinois State Redbirds (Missouri Valley Conference) (2007–2012)
2007–08 Illinois State 25–10 13–5 2nd NIT Second Round
2008–09 Illinois State 24–10 11–7 3rd NIT First Round
2009–10 Illinois State 22–11 11–7 3rd NIT First Round
2010–11 Illinois State 12–19 4–14 T–9th
2011–12 Illinois State 21–14 9–9 T–3rd NIT Second Round

Bring on the "soft schedule" argument - but he took Isu to 4 NIT appearances. That is the standard of excellence here. Plus the MVC was a top 10 conference every year in those days. He is one Sampay put back layup away from the Dance. JUST PUT IT UP BRANDON!!!

At SMU he won 30 games one season. Sure - he bailed on ISU. But, the guy did a lot of good things for ISU during his time, and I enjoyed most of his teams. Can't say the same for this current team we roll out on the floor.

More successful than Muller in 2 less years at ISU

Jank, along with everything else took our best player with him, the jerk. His soft schedule was an embarrassment to the whole league. Every year he was here we had to hear BS from every other MVC team about our soft schedule, especially the year we started 13-0.

As much as I agree with you that Jank's schedules were embarrassing, Moore was gone no matter what.... he thought he was above the MVC/Illinois State.

I'm sure you have concrete proof of that

So no comment on how envious you are of Gregggg blowing his 16 point first half lead?

Mullers teams have consistently lost to crap teams. Charleston Southern and San Francisco come to mind. UIC blew us out. Almost lost to 2 crap teams this year AND a D3 team in an exhibition. Muller wouldn't have fared as well even with Janks soft scheduling. Bottom line is I'd rather have Jank and make the NIT 80% of the time than Muller and make the NIT 29% of the time. Obviously Jank didn't want to be here but thats not my point. My point is its time to move on from Muller. Hes had two more seasons and FAR less success.

I got to know Jank pretty well when he was here. I always really liked him. Much more personable and had much more personality than Dan (especially off the court). I think Jank actually loved coaching at ISU, he could be a normal person and run a quality, clean, mid-major program. If he would have gotten the Muller contract, it would not have surprised me if he was still here.

Sure his schedules weren't great, but the MVC was also a top 6-8 ranked conference when he was here. I wish he would have played a schedule like his first year when they played Kent State and Indiana. All he needed was 2 high quality games a year then people wouldn't have been able to complain.

I know I am in the minority, but Jank was a good guy that made ISU basketball fun and relevant again.

When they showed the highlights of the Creighton semi-final game on Sunday it reminded me how much better his teams were and more fun to watch than now.

I don't believe Jank was staying. When Larry Brown came calling, he was always going to leave.

Jank was going to leave from the first time he stepped onto Doug Collins Court. His scheduling was crafted to rack up some gaudy numbers right from the start. We should have been better with him, but we weren't. Dammit. I wish we would have been able to keep Nic here. I believe things would have been better for us with him up top.

Of course I do, that's why I'm known as "TheTruth"

Nic's own words from his Wikipedia page:

"As soon as Coach Jankovich left I made up my mind and knew I wanted to go play for a BCS program," Moore stated. "It didn't matter who was going to be the head coach. My decision had already been made." He ended up transferring to SMU to play under Larry Brown.

I always found that funny, because as we all know SMU was not a BCS school.

Probably correct, but I think it was a much tougher decision than people made it out to be. I know Jank did not want to go back to being an assistant, but the money was too much to turn down.

Not arguing, but I think his fear was the in-waiting part was going to be longer than initially agreed upon.

Agree that Jankovich was not long for ISU. From the very beginning. I could see it.

I do think there is a good chance if he hangs around one more season, he would be making way more $$$ today. And a P5. The $$$ was not that much better. None of that goofy CIW crap.

When Nic left, he was not thinking SMU at all. He was thinking Purdue, Indiana, etc. But that did not work out. So he went with his old coach at SMU.

Again, I think things might have very worked out better for both of these guys had they stayed another season.
