They’ve got to get better at closing out games but the defensive effort and overall hustle were there and that’s good to see. That spin move by Phil was a thing of beauty.

After all these years.............has to be at least a decade............probably longer..............here goes..... :text-+1:

Where are all the Chastain haters from last year, that spent last season insisting he would not contribute this year, or ever? I spent last year calling Matt “The Truth”, choosing to wait and see with my own eyes what he truly had to offer. He’s really turned out to be our glue guy, giving the team whatever it may be missing on a given game day, which is usually plenty. I do wonder what the ACL may have done to his hops. I still think he had a better vertical in HS, and hope he keeps making gains there. Glad Chastain is a Redbird.

What's their percentage season long on those 3s?

We struggle to fight though the ball screens anyway, so might as well sit underneath and clog the middle.

I'd let UNI fire from 3 all day.

They are around 260th in 3pt fg percentage. They shoot a ton and miss a ton. However, they have no decent post players so they have no other option.

Regardless of what they've done in the past, they shot just shy of 43% from 3 last night. Zone was not the way to go, IMO.

I wouldn't have played zone either because there is no point even guarding their inside players.

The only thing that concerns me about playing man against teams like UNI, that actually run offense is we can't defend any type of movement or actions. Also, we can't fight through screens and switch into bad matchups. We are lucky Green is young and didn't know how to take advantage of Fayne guarding him on the perimeter.

They shot 55% in the first half, then came back down to earth a little. The only help zone might have helped on is they were running us through screens to get open at the free throw line extended. In man we got caught some chasing our man through the double screens and allowed them enough daylight for an open look.

Best part of this play was after he dunked he immediately ran down the court to play defense.

That's one of the things I always loved about Osiris. No matter how spectacular the play, he kept playing like it was no big deal.

Zone defense. That is all.
Even though they have attempted and made the 2nd most 3's in the MVC?

And even though they drilled 2 treys in those couple minutes we were in a zone last nite?

I would have even tried a box in one on Green for a change of pace. He was the most difficult match up and if his drive penetration and massive long balls were slowed down then it would force the others to beat you. It would also wear him down as well.

Based on their season percentages, I was sure DM was going to play zone last night. They shoot a lot of three's but aren't that successful except for last night and their previous game. Of course, they have no inside game but they sure rebounded well and drove in the lane a lot only to kick it out. If you take the drive penetration away then you leave them with passing around the perimeter for an open look.

Was definitely a concern that they came back twice from 10 point deficits in the 2nd half. Credit to them for hitting some big shots, but it we just couldn't quite get the kill shot that we needed like we had vs. UE.

Still, a win is a win.

Chastain & Yarbs were outstanding. D was really good again for the most part. AJ Green is a baller.

Chastain was exciting on both ends of the court.
Milik had a big charge and blocked shot down the stretch. I was impressed with his energy as well.
9 for 12 from the field, 1 for 2 from 3's, 4 for 5 from the free throw line, 8 rebounds, 3 assists.

AJ Green will most likely make himself known in the Valley over the next 4 years. A top 100 4 star recruit and I think they hired his dad as an assistant coach..

This ... We went zone and got burnt. Quickly moved away from it.

I think zone defense would have played right into UNI's hands. Without much inside presence they have to shoot 3's.

I agree, Evans has lost his confidence - he is going to the motions of shooting, but really just throwing the ball up, hoping it will go in versus stroking it. Jefferson seems to be rushing his shoot a smidge - several rattled the rim in and out. Relax, follow-through, with some arch - good things will happen. Otherwise, things will get very difficult in the lane.
