If the roster returns basically intact the results are likely the same and he won’t be here much longer. You have to turn over at least half the roster, sucks for the players but Pedons job is to win
Why does it suck for the players? Free degree. A little cash in their pocket. Should have been able to create a huge network to assist in their future. Their job is to win too! Once again, they should be thankful for the head start in life that most kids don't get.

This one like the last one is on the coaches and ISU management. Sports fans follow two college sports more than any others and that is men’s basketball and football, period. Until ISU takes steps to address this it makes it real easy to stay at home and pass on season tickets again for another year. Sadly a once respected mid major program 20 to 30 years ago has become what we now. This is redbird basketball, no caps, we are that bad. This year is enough for me to believe management needs to start realizing that they need to not just be thinking about but to begin implementing plan b, c, or d. When my Purdue friends call me up not to razz me but to give condolences it is bad and recognized as bad by sports fans.

Evansville dictated from the jump. Could tell from the first possession we were bothered by what they threw at us on D. Never adjusted. Frustrating.

The head fakes, extra passes, and dribbles in then back out are maddening. Whole crowd around me behind the bench was urging anyone to just SHOOT IT.

Feel bad for Kendall. Rough way to go out.

Time to hit the recruiting trail. Hard.
You have two real threats on the floor- Johnny and Myles. That’s it! Lewis took a step back this season on offense. The guards outside Kinzinger are non existent! I am eagerly anticipating the roster shakeup in the next couple months. If the same roster is retained Pedons year 3 will be a lot of the same!

Gather 'round, boys and girls, and let an old timer tell you a story. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a basketball program that not only was typically at or near the top of the MVC, but it also occasionally made the NCAA tournament, giving the likes of defending national champions all they could handle for 39 minutes and beating an upper-level team from the SEC. It was a proud program with a history of success that was the envy of many in the Valley. Today...not so much. The end.

The program did show signs of progress at times this season, but they need to be a serious contender to finish in the top 4 of the conference next season or else someone's seat is going to go from lukewarm to fairly hot, whether fair or not.
Fair or not? How long does one need? 5 years is enough. If he can’t sniff the NIT in 4, that’s a sign to me!

I'd add Poindexter. Since the beginning of February, he averaged 13.7 points per game and shot 44.4 percent from distance. Definitely was a big reason for the stretch of success the Redbirds had.

For those who didn't see the Vidette's game story, Pedon had some closing remarks in the story about the offseason.

"We've got a recruiting class coming in that we're really excited about. Right now, it's a two-man recruiting class that are going to be freshman next year," Pedon said. "And then, we've gotta figure out what our roster's gonna look like. So the roster management piece, that'll be big. We want to address some needs that we have, I can tell you that off the top," Pedon continued.

It's a different world for players now! You want paid, then you need to produce immediately. They wanted NIL, they also need to understand what comes with that. Welcome to the business world young men and women. You lose the "their just kids" empathy when you enter the workforce.

The game was as big of a diaperstain as the whole season; a semi-contained shitshow. We had a few bright spots, and were a handful of possessions away from 20 wins if you think about it, but in the end it is what it is...ANOTHER sub .500 season and first round exit in the Loo. It's going to be a neat trick to keep all of Chase, Johnny and Myles. If we do, that'll be a decent step for next year. We will be counting on two freshmen to contribute right away and Pence needs to take a big step. That's a recipe for more of the same unless we get lucky on a JUCO splash or two.

I dunno. I have no crystal ball, but this sucks, it continues to suck, and I hate watching every other team in the Valley...even the Almighty Valpo, leave us in the dust. I say Pedon has next year to either finish above .500 and/or win a game or two in STL or he's out. Then bring in a hungry, determined, no bullshit, Watch This type of guy who has a history of winning and building programs (I don't care the level.) The former player route doesn't work, minus a couple flashes in the pan. The hotshot assistant doesn't work, Jank was the last rodeo there. Find our Josh Schertz.

Maybe just maybe going with a traditional 2 Guards, Center, Power Forward and a very good Wing 6”6 athletic and lengthy dude is all this team needs going forward. I hope Myles and Chase stay. Chase needs to work on his body this off season. The bigs are set. JK is the killer the team needs at pg. If Poindexter can pick up where he left off going forward the Birds can be a top half team next year.

Thank you for posting this. We have a bunch of geniuses on the board who seem to think Pedon has no clue about what's going on or how to fix it. Their hair is on fire already and they are putting Pedon's seat directly on it. He's trying to "manage a roster" and that is for a full season and so he couldn't run guys off mid-season, you also aren't going to attract guys here if your philosophy is to run guys off every year, not giving them some time to improve. He sees where he is, he likes to work, he wants success - for him AND for the young men he's recruited here - so he's going to try to fix it. Let's support him and let's see what he can do this year in the portal store.

IMHO, considering the size of the crater the program was in two years ago, building the program back to having an NIT caliber team in three seasons would be an accomplishment; not being able to do it in four seasons would be a failure. Other "mid major" programs have managed to turn things around in four seasons to the point of going from having one of the bottom 262 NCAA Division 1 men's basketball teams to having one of the top 100 teams. We should expect nothing less from this or any future head coach, no matter the condition of the program he inherits.

ABSOLUTELY!!! There will be players in this new world that are big winners and there will be players that are losers. With a few exceptions players need to add value next season or move on. I know that it is cold but that is the world of college bball with the nil and portal.

Another quote for those worrying about JK:

"It was a great setting and it was a great experience. It's not the outcome we wanted at all. Credit to Evansville. But you know, we're gonna take this and we're just gonna use this for next year because we're gonna be back here," Kinziger said.

I don’t think anyone is worrying about JK at all. Why would there be? He’s a baller straight up

Or they could just unionize (aka Dartmouth) and complete muck-up any decency left in the game.

I have real concerns about our ability to keep JK and Myles. IMO, Walker didn’t do enough to gain interest.

Joe Petrakis had at least 1 D1 option after he left here. He hasn’t done much last I checked at WIU, but he did staybD1. Considering some teams in the Summit, OVC, Horizon, and Chicago State, the opportunity is there.
Joe P left WIU midway through the season to go pro in Greece or something.

Another season; another failure. That pretty much sums it up for this fan. It’s just become emotional exhausting supporting this program. There is one positive from last night’s dismissal (and predictable) failure. Our suffering is over until next season.

I just want to have fun watching ISU and to be proud of the program. Beating Indiana State was awesome. Getting swept by Valpo and losing at home to UIC was lower than low. Someone (hopefully Pedon) bring back the pride. Please.
