Bad coaching by Dan for having MY panic, commit two charges, and foul the shooter on a 3-pt attempt in the last couple of minutes.

In future games I will endeavor to adhere to this new standard during in game posting.

Did we have any time outs remaining? If so, would it not have been prudent to call one?

If I understand it correctly, I think the coach can only call timeouts on dead balls. Once the ball is in play, the players have to call it.

Can someone explain why we wouldn't have a few rebounders on the block on the Copeland free throws? Unbelievable dan....

To avoid a potential over the back foul on a missed free throw giving Valpo two free throws to win or tie. This happened in an NCAA tournament game a few years ago - I think it was Butler-Pitt when Pitt was a one seed. I had many problems with their play down the stretch, but I was okay with this move.

I remember. I just dont know how you dont put someone down there to at least defend an outlet pass after rebound or something. Either way, horrible and inexcusable collapse again from another talented isu team that underachieves

The free fall began when we were up 10, they got a flagrant 1, we missed both free throws and the ensuing possession was a quick empty one. Could have been a 4-5 point swing and 15 point lead. Would have likely been game/set/match

So a 15 point lead with 8:14 left would be enough, even though we pissed away a 10 point lead with 1:57 left?

Yes

You don't line up players in the second position for the very reasons posted, Trey. Muller did not just invent that strategy in that situation last night. That is exactly the way this is played in that situation.

While it was a dumb play, it was most definitely not a foul. I assume we can all agree this was a horrid call.

Sure seemed like a foul to me Total contact of the shooter while shooter was in shooting motion. Actually, it was executed perfectly by Valpo...you know, the type of play that requires basic BB IQ.
What contact did he make? He hit the ball cleanly and that is the only contact I could tell. This doesn’t excuse how idiotic of a play it was from MY but the ref called that based on what he thought would happen in that situation, not what actually happened.

Looked like a lot of contact from my perspective. Reallly a moot point as it should not have mattered anyway.

You all need to quit using the term “talented” to describe this team. They’re an average team with no bench. Muller duped us all in the preseason by waaaaaay over-hyping the potential of this roster. .

I think there was a lot of contact. The offensive player jumped into MY. And it mattered. All of those plays and calls mattered, especially down the stretch, Especially that guy winging an off balanced 3/4 court shot off the backboard at the buzzer.

But it all must be the coaches' fault...

Maybe have the bench call a time out prior to inbounding the ball to set up something?

If Milik doesn’t leave his feet guy is taking a hurried three with a 6.6 player in his face. Yes the guy jumped into him but never would’ve been called an offensive foul. Not with the game on the line. Just
Poor judgment in that situation. As was dribbling against a zone press. The charge in the sideline was definitely a bad call. The charge in the middle of the backcourt was the proper call. They were in a position where they had to foul us to stop the clock. Instead of being patient we were over aggressive and dribbled too damned much. If MY waits to get fouled he’s $$ at the line. On the other hand Copeland is arguably our best FT shooter and bricked it. Furthermore to not get a single shot on goal in the last two minutes is inexcusable. Finally for those that want Fayne to be a leader. It’s really difficult for a post player to be your leader when he can only impact the game when he’s given the ball down low. In the last two minutes he never touched the ball. That’s both on the other players on the floor and in the coaching staff for not insuring your best percentage shooter get the ball

Yep, you are what you’re record says you are. True talent versus this schedule would produce more than mediocre 7-7 results.

Usually the leader on the floor is the point guard. Personally, I would rather see Copeland have the ball in his hands to run something than just have Milik go one on one.
To me, the team leader is the guy that is not afraid to grab a teammate by the shirt and get them to play at their highest level and play together. I think Phil is the only that is capable of doing this.

We have a potential valley POY and fayne will make 1st or 2nd team. Some of the other guys can play ball. I dont understand what u mean by this team isnt talented? Its horribly undisciplined with a coach who cant win in an easy conference. That's the problem

I disagree, Brick, A player jumping into another player is rarely called anything in that situation, and if it is, it is almost always an offensive call, as it should be the call on the player initiating the contact.

I was there, and and I have watched the replay a couple of times. Thinking about it, I think losing all of those calls down the stretch was because, with about 5 minutes to go there were a couple of calls that went against Valpo, that their coach was extremely upset about. One of which might have been a bad call in our favor. I don't see watching the broadcast how upset the Valpo coach was, as he was making quite of scene, I observed watching from the stands. I just don't think the officials were going keep making calls against theme down the stretch the way the bench and crowd was making a scene. Coaches do this. They are not working the officials so much about the call they just made, just trying to change their mindset for the next set up plays. That's what I think happened.

No one on isu. We have overrated our players and DM. Neither has does much to instill that this years team is going to figure it out.

Pre-Season Clayton Custer of Loyola was picked as POY of the year.
Milik and Fayne were picked first team. Key was picked second team.

Not worried about Rey. Not worried about Hein. Not worried about Gassman.
Gassman had zero minutes last night. Zero.

Muller said he’s playing the guys that earn it, that play hard, that defend. That’s why Chastain has supplanted Tinsley. The problem is, if Dan plays Chastain, Gass, and Hein, we’ll get destroyed. It’s a shame our more athletic players don’t think it’s cool to hustle. Dan’s making the right decisions IMO, with what he’s got to work with. Quite simply, he needs better ingredients, to prepare a more appetizing meal for our consumption. And that’s on Dan ... get better and more motivated players. Get more Phil Fayne’s, Paris Lee’s, etc. Seasons like this are going to happen. Learn something from them and move forward.

I think it's unfair to lump Chastain in with Hein and Gassman. He's as athletic as Tinsley, rebounds just as well too. He's the one guy I'm happy to see developing.

Here's the reason. It happens when things happen at the buzzer because it's automated from ESPN at the buzzer.

Thanks for the explanation Quinn...obviously a system glitch that should be addressed. I was driving (out of radio range) & the wife had gamecast on and kept me updated. I was depressed that we couldn't close out a nice- late lead- but relieved when my wife said it showed we won "final 57-56". Turned off the game cast...and then went into depression later when I learned later that once again ESPN gamecast had reported it incorrectly😖 I have deleted that faulty app.

That definitely sucks. They need to get that worked out. It would've been much better if you thought we lost and woke up the next day and found out we won.
