It's not just "mid-majors", many university sports are experiencing lower attendance, even if it's just fewer butts in seats altho tickets are sold. I'll link an article from last spring talking about attendance drops for Wisconsin hoops. Not good either.Attendance has been down all across the Valley (also affecting other mid-majors), with most of the effects coming post-COVID. I think COVID has drastically changed our culture and people's desires to get out and watch an Illinois State vs. Drake game (for example). Right now at the mid-major level I believe it takes culture, winning games, and an engaging coaching staff to bring strong attendance consistently. I don't know if averaging 9,500 is attainable again, but I'd like to find out. I am doubtful the conference as a whole will ever recover to previous attendance numbers.
2022-23 MVC averages 3,085 per game. High - Murray State 4,583; Low - Valpo 1,384
2021-22 MVC averaged 3,221 per game. High - Bradley 4,351; Low - Valpo 1,758
2020-21 Irrelevant due to COVID, 5 teams were not able to host fans

2018-19 MVC averaged 4,345 per game. High - Bradley 5,429; Low - Valpo 2,821
2017-18 MVC averaged 3,924 per game. High - Bradley 5,699; Low - Valpo 2,722
All other prior years are boosted by Wichita State averaging over 10,000
The number fell to 11,335 in 2021-22, when UW recorded its three smallest crowds in 15 seasons of records.
The worst was a scanner count of 6,507 for the regular-season opener against St. Francis Brooklyn on Nov. 9. The Dec. 15 contest against Nicholls State was second lowest at 6,565, and the Nov. 15 game against Providence was third at 7,202.
The drop in season average, however, continued a trend since the 2014-15 team drew 14,418, with only 13% of tickets distributed going unused.
The rate of no-shows in 2021-22 was more than 25% and has been there for three of the last four seasons with attendance.
Just about every game can be watched on cable or streaming .... besides performance I think thats one of the biggest impacts to attendanceRising costs are part of the problem. Look at the Horton game. I get it was expensive and a ton of work, but $120 for a family of 4 isn’t going to get much of a walk up crowd for an average team. Now us posting here are more than likely “diehards” but to get those averages back up you need to appeal to the community.
And instead of 7 pm. It can be recorded and watched at 9 pm in about an hour.Just about every game can be watched on cable or streaming .... besides performance I think thats one of the biggest impacts to attendance
ISU averaged just a click under 6000 fans per game in the 2016-17 28-win season. Man that seems too long ago. I remember being disgusted with that average! Well, at least AJ Green had 10 in a 40 point loss for the Bucks tonight against the Grizzlies. I am guessing UNI would be a little better if he didn't leave early. What the hell is happening in Cedar Falls? UNI just lost another home game to a now 4 - 6 South Florida team. They are now 3 - 7 with three home wins against Wartburg, NIU and Evansville.
