.....and how pathetic is that. Jim Benson won't ask the hard questions or raise valid points of underperformance in this athletic dept because they fear butthurt from this administration. It just keeps becoming clearer and clearer that we need a purge in the athletic dept.

Check out this Dan related article from a writer for the Vidette. I'm glad someone in the media is finally publicly highlighting Dan's numerous shortcomings and failures.

Nice screenname and first post, Lewallen. Next time just ask us to read your article because you'd like some more clicks.

Even if it’s not him, Lewallen shouldn’t be trusted anyways. Looking through his twitter he appears to be a diehard Illinois fan first and foremost.

Why does the Vidette like to hire Illini fans?

"As of now, it appears that ISU basketball is content with being mediocre, and there is nothing to suggest that anything is changing anytime soon."
It's stupid statements like this that really frost my ass. Muller is ISU basketball. Has it been a disappointing year? Yes. Has it been Dan's best year on the bench? No. Write about that. But to say he's content with being mediocre???? That's just plain stupid. He's got more skin in the game than anyone and he's a competitor. I promise you he's not "content" with anything.

And Dan is 4th on the all time win list. Donewald is 3rd.

So Truth, are we sure ISU FAN is telling the truth? Or are you just putting someone's opinion as "TheTruth"?

Please point me to a negative Benson story on ISU MBB. Not exactly journalism.

Yes we are sure. If you read Benson's work covering the program, it's not hard to figure out what's going on.

Go back and check. Benson was critical about the handling of Yarbrough and reported some questionable “facts.” His coverage has been soft since. I’m guessing he’s not getting as much opportunity anymore.

ISU FAN 1 so you have to be negative to be good?

You have to be balanced to be good. You cannot make me live in your rainbow land.

Balanced isn't what you said before. I agree with that. I don't think Benson has been like "I don't know any complains every thing is great with ISU basketball"

Sadly I believe there is a good deal of truth here. Benson went for the angle that we as fans wanted him to go for, and unfortunately I think he got burned for that.

After games Luedkte and Mathews don’t always seem to challenge Muller in questions that fans would certainly want answers too. I think they are worried about getting burned as well.

I will say this. Benson, Luedke, and Matthews aren’t in a great spot to question the program. I don’t know if anyone saw what happened to the play by play announcer for Iowa. He was critical of the program (not his final straw), but Learfield suspended him a couple times and eventually for the season. Luedke and Mathews have to be very careful.

Typically, the beat writer isn’t critical of a program because they have to be there every day.

If anyone would be able to do an overview it would probably be Kindred. I remember him being critical near the end of the Moser era.

Leudke doesn't have to be careful. He has been a class act over his entire career and it comes naturally. That's why I have had so much respect for the guy over the years. I know you and others would rather that he was more critical and I respect those thoughts as well.

I understand that it is difficult in a one paper/tiny media market to be critical but the writers/reporters could occasionally, rather than being critical, ask Muller/Lyons a few tough questions and merely report their response. From cradle to grave so much about and surrounding the culture of ISU sports is passive/soft and the basic reporting fits that profile.

I don’t think Luedke should be critical. I don’t really see that as his role. Plus, that isn’t his personality. I don’t think Matthews needs to be either.

I see it more of a Pantagraph thing to take a look at the state of affairs in the athletics program. I’m sure they look at their comment section and there are plenty of people with thoughts and opinions.

I would just like some more challenging questions asked after games. If a player is benched for most of the half, that needs to be asked and probed some.

Same goes with strategy type questions. I sure as heck would like to know why Rey was the inbounder on a play Friday vs Drake when that happened earlier in the season and Muller said “Rey should never be inbounding the ball”.

I would like to see more difficult questions on the coaches show, but not right after a loss. I almost feel sorry for the coaches for having to do an interview right after a loss when his team plays like crap. I personally don't like to hear Dan unload on the players after a close loss. I don't like to hear him sugar-coat it either. All coaches need a grace period before they can be rational, but I guess this is why they get the big bucks.
