You cant keep a man down for your benefit. Isn't that slavery? Yak has outgrown ISU at this point anyway. If he leaves his head coach in waiting position at Michigan it will definitely be for a P6 job. He's not messing with mid-majors anymore.

So State Farm enslaves their best by not promoting them to competitors? Everyone is ultimately responsible for their own career success and upward mobilty. It’s fine for Dan to endorse Yak once Yak decided to pursue Michigan. But Dan acts more like an agent, providing to impetus to jumpstart the process of pushing quality out the door.

This is the way i see it as well save for the reference to slavery

If someone comes looking for your guys and they hire them away for a better opportunity.....great. But i got the sense with both Oliver and especially Yak that Dan was dressed in a neon suit holding bright red flares trying to get the attention of Wisconsin and Michigan and i think he did himself a disservice in the process.

Our guard play has been lacking ever since Oliver left and we know what has occurred defensively since Yak left.

maybe they expressed to dan they wanted a p6 job and dan did whatever he could to help them.

Dan says one of his prerequisites for an assistant is that they are funny. He said a sense of humor is important since they have to spend so much time together. Especially important, said Dan, since he is not funny. I get it, but I would take a little less funny for a little more of what’s important to basketball. Hire a separate court jester if need be.

Rodney Dangerfield would’ve been a hell of an assistant for this squad ... Take my team, please!

Jsnhbe1Birds If Yak is the head coach in waiting at Michigan how come when Beilein got ejected at halftime at Penn State it was Saddi Washington that took the reins?

Also this past summer Michigan did a foreign trip but Beilein couldn’t travel because of a recent heart procedure. Who was named interim head coach for the trip? Yak? Nope. Saddi Washington.

Because ISU fans pound their chests for those who were ever Redbirds. Clarance is on a trajectory to be Jason Kidd.

Ya know I was thinking after the 2nd Bradley loss. Our coaches are too damn funny. This team will be playing on Thursday.
That's what Dan gets for not answering every question with coach speak.

ok, lets get this somewhat back on topic.

though i never really like to hear about injuries, i am suddenly excited again about the tournament after hearing about Feehan (Evansville) and Wilkins (Drake). the road to Saturday doesnt seem to be too difficult. our toughest opponent will still be ourselves...

Some good points made......

As much as I want this abomination of a season to be over, I want one more victory to get to a "winning season". As bad as 17-16 would be, I must prefer it to 16-16.

I think one change in the staff is inevitable, two coaches leaving is almost as likely.

I think they may have an Alpha in Fisher, I hope that's true because I'm beyond disgusted in the "we just didn't play with intensity" postgame comments.

I don't see Dan radically changing the way he recruits/puts a roster together. That could continue to burn him, or finally click...who knows.

Exactly right on needing to keep the non-con scheduling philosophy. As the MVC continues its slide into OVC/Horizon League territory, this program will need to scratch & claw at relevance to keep the fans interested.

The most intensity I've seen this year is from Fisher sitting on the bench. Yeah, he's an Alpha. I'm thinking next year we will have plenty of trouble scoring with our top 2 scorers graduating, but defensively that'll be another story. Think about having Rey, Fisher and Chastain in the lineup at the same time. At least that will be fun to watch. Effort won't be a problem there.

We should beat Evansville, and then we'll get at Drake. They will be rested, but that episode with Hein and Sideshow Bob might really help us get fired up. We have a decent chance getting to Saturday at least.

What ever happened with the new and improved redbirdfan replacement. Did that ever get off the ground or did that get tabled?

Maybe if Chastain shot the ball more than .5 times per game, I'd be somewhat enthusiastic about his offensive upside next season. Until he starts scoring more, color me unimpressed....

Needs to be offensive minded like at Leroy. Not popular, but TWills as non offensive 2 guard was what hurt ISU 2 years ago. You can’t start a ppg goose egg at that position and expect to Dance. I don’t care how much Chastain hustles, draws charges, etc. If he doesn’t score 10 ppg to go with it, he becomes a liability. I think he’s capable. Quit deferring. I’ve seen him pass up open 10 footers.

I like most of the points. I am not in agreement with losing Thursday as I am traveling to be there on Friday, but I also don't think it matters for the rest of your points if we lose that day, or any of the next 3 days or in the NCAA tourney. Those few days just won't matter in the whole scheme of things and I want ISU to have a winning record. GO BIRDS!

We have fans that so can’t stomach the thought of a 4 out of 7 years loss on Sunday, that they prefer to just lose Thursday, and forgo the opportunity.

I don’t get it. I would love to get to Sunday and take our chances.

I think Dan is confident in himself, and a loss to Evansville isn’t going to trigger a self intervention soul search. I’m not rooting for wake up calls. I’m rooting for the Redbirds.

Items 3 and 9 YES YES YES. I understand #5 but that would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Any up and coming coach wants to advance in the profession. Assistant coaching ches will always turn over especially at a mid-major. 10 should always happen, it may suck in the beginning, but in the end will be the best thing.
If anybody values Yak, I can nearly guarantee him still being here if not for Dan’s promotion and marketing of him. State Farm never marketed their best people assets to Allstate. You need to keep a vested interest in your own success. Dan is a great friend for going this, but it’s at the expense of his coaching success.
I don't agree with that analogy. ISU (State Farm in your anology) didn't market Yak, Muller (a leader at State Farm) did. And, yes that happens all the time. A good leader wants their employees to succeed and move on to bigger and better things.....
.....at the same company!! (finishing your last sentence)
I don't know what company you work for but how about you take your best employees over to your competitor and suggest they hire them. Managers and leaders are suppose to hire and develop talent for their own business/team and not someone else's. Yes Muller can want what is best for employees but to help and encourage employees to leave ISU is wrong and crosses a line. Muller is paid by ISU and has a fiduciary obligation to always represent ISU's interest first.

The only thing that beats playing on Sunday is winning on Sunday. The weekends are always fun, but are much more fun when we make it to the title game. It has been good to At least be in it each day. Just can't get over the hump

I have to believe when MY and Fayne are gone that Chastain will become more of a scorer.
