Totally agree with Sarge - the effort and team play of the Birds is very refreshing. Get contributions from everyone right now. What is also a good thing - it is a different player or two on different games - That is what makes a TEAM.

How about the crowd - pumped up from the beginning. I was able to sit in my old student season ticket seats - took my wife, kids and friends - Great afternoon of remembrance and the Birds WON!!!!!

Just to bad Garcia's is not back - I loved the promotion back then. If the margin of victory matched your seat number - Free Slice from Garcias!!!!!!

What a great time . Hope they do this every year. Geez you forget after all these year how close everyone is to the floor Fans are just on top of everything. So freaking loud compared to Redbird. Kids played their asses off. Qudoes to the admin for getting this done. Great to see Doug and all the rest. Great beer at Fialas bye the way. Go State! Too many 🍻 for Timmy? Oh hell no.

Some rambling thoughts . . .

1) Does any other university have as gracious an ambassador as ISU's Doug Collins? Hard to see how. He is as class as they come. He knew my father and brother when he was at ISU, but hasn't seen either in probably twenty years. Dad's 89 now and hardly looks at all like he did last time he saw Doug. Still, Doug knew my dad right away, gave him and my brother hugs, reminisced a bit, and thanked us all genuinely for coming to the game. I said to Doug, "You probably don't remember me but you once told me to keep my elbow in when shooting at a camp." To which Doug looked me in the eye, smiled, and said, "Really? I'm surprised I didn't tell you to pass me the damn ball."

He's a genuinely great guy and not just the ISU GOAT.

2) The game was fun. Horton was incredible, though I did miss the banner and main scoreboard. So spoiled by all the extra data they can show there. I kept forgetting where to look for the time and score.

3) I take back all the "negative" thoughts and comments about Sandage. Kid's a baller. Not the most talented. Not the fastest. But he knows how to use his body and strength to get buckets. And he's 100% effort all the time.

4) Sissoko and Kotov showed up well today. Needed them both and they delivered. Sissoko's block though . . . wow . . . he made up a lot of ground and timed it perfectly.

5) Seeing Terri Kinzi Goss running up and down the baseline in front of the student section, exhorting them to get up and cheer . . . not something I'll be forgetting anytime soon. But I have to think she made a lot of fans out of those students.

My wife and watched the game at a bar in Galena on my phone. Towards the end people around us were reminiscing about old valley games at Horton. Amazing how a 6" screen can bring people together.

Great game. The hustle getting everyone is great. Man these guys get in the floor the moment there is a loose ball. I love it.

These guys are running the offense now and wow does that make a difference.

Go State!

Nothing to add that hasn’t been said already but had to chime in. What a fun game. It reminded me why I love ISU basketball. The entire crowd was into the game from start to finish. A bonus was no annoying cams during timeouts. I guess playing all of our games at Horton is not an option.

The effort and effectiveness have been on the rise since we got back from the Caymens and retooled the lineup

57 points and 17 boards from Sandage, Knight, Burford and Poindexter

Sissoko came up with the big plays and free throws

Burford iced it

With Mayor McCheese out and Lewis limited due to fouls

They Found A Way

You could feel the electricity in the old girl! Its been on the Redbirdfan want list for ever. I'd say it worked out well!
What a blast! “The Block”.

Let’s remove the Jumbotron and curtain off the upper bowl from Redbird/CEFCU like they do at Arch Madness. And keep winning. Low-tech intimacy is the retro wave of the future!

Interesting comment from the post game was Pedeon said Andrews will help win a game in the future. This was while commenting on Johnson and Sissoko contributing to wins so far. Makes me think that everyone on that roster is busting their butts in practice.

ZERO disappointments once we stepped into Horton and you just couldn't have asked for it to go better. That was a ship-ton of work by so many to pull this off. A+. Literally. Shot in the arm for our entire athletics program...and even University.

I am so encouraged with what appears to be, as exhibited in last few weeks, very little ego on this team. It's quite inspiring. SIUE is very well coached and in my mind a surprisingly GOOD team. This win impressed me. Problem with that is...now I'm getting my hopes up.

What an awesome environment this was and a dynamic performance from the Redbirds!

I haven't yelled and cheered that much in quite a while. This team is building confidence in themselves with a dual effect of reciprocating confidence within the fan base as true believers in this team. This team is starting to blow by my expectations. They seem hungry and have been bringing the fight and passion of days of yore.

I sat right behind the radio announcers on the second row -- by the way, it was nice to see Dick Luedtke. During the first 4 minutes the Redbirds were giving up some rebounds they should have fought better for and secured. One of the SIUE guys shot it and missed but successfully weasled around the Redbird defender and captured the rebound for an easy put back at the rim. Rob Judson was so mad he turned around to all of us and yelled angrily "Soft!!!!" Needless to say he wasn't happy with the rebounding effort. The team turned it around though and had a good night on the boards.

The atmosphere, Doug Collins and other basketball alumni plus the great game and dramatic W served as a great way to start the weekend.

I like what coach said in post game -- basically that they can't start patting themselves on the back and getting complacent. Lots to work on and more things to improve.

Let's get ready for Ball State and to get back to .500.

They handed out these commemorative tickets after the game -- pretty cool!

They can just move indoor track to Redbird
If we think about it this way it makes more sense. This team have been winning games lately short handed, injuries, playing injured and with contributions from the unexpected. All these things add up to be a very capable and competent team competing with the Top Teams in this conference. They actually have a few big wins believe it or not and took Murray State to overtime. Indiana State have made a case to be the team to beat so far and I know it’s still early. Another key step for this team is when playing against better help defensive teams we must be able to drive and kick. Hold on to your seats it’s gonna be a fun ride I think. I’ve believed in Pedon from day one. If we can get Red Bird fans to contribute more who telling what am be achieved this season

That was a lot of fun. The athletic dept & facilities crew did an incredible job putting that together. The old barn looked and sounded great. Got in there an hour before tipoff and you could already tell there was a buzz in the building - definitely missed that feeling. Students: THAT'S how it's done! You were up, loud and energized all game. Yes, this was a special occasion but that's how you need to bring it every night. Well done. The whole atmosphere was loud and electric, just like it should be. Great college hoops game, period. That was a game where even if you had no rooting interest in either team would still be a really fun one to watch.

Sissoko's minutes were huge, not just the big block. We were getting killed inside all game and the second he checked in the first time, that started to change a bit. Their bigs were having their way in the paint. Our rotations and help D in the post were better in the second half, but that opened up some of their perimeter guys who hit some big shots. They have quick guards. They're a solid team. It was frustrating how EVERY SINGLE TIME we got a big basket, they answered it immediately. It took us until very late in the game to get the back to back stops we needed, but it was a great effort by our guys. This is another game we don't win a month ago. Burf was huge in the second half. Sandy made a lot of big plays. Kendall's 5th foul was a joke...can't be any more straight up than he was. (Actually, there were a lot of shit calls in this one.) We iced it at the line again. FT shooting has been key for us. Overall, this team plays hard. The improvement, buy-in and effort have steadily increased each game.

I had an advantage, my butt covered two seats giving me a better chance to win :geek:

No one mentioned us limiting our turnovers, and thanks to all that post videos for those of us that aren't able to come to the games or see the interviews post game.

Special thanks to Sgt Hulka for making the trip to visit me for a few hours, I joined the redbirdfan board many, many years ago when Sarge started it and thanks to Quinn for the great job keeping it up. 👨‍🦼 👨‍🦼👨‍🦼👨‍🦼
