BTW, heard Luedke mention it...this is the FIRST GAME ALL YEAR that Streveler has been sacked. Amazing. No wonder they have the nation's top O.

I don't think that's correct. I do know those were the first 2 interceptions Streveler has thrown on the year though.

Yeah, I guess that can't be right. I stand corrected!

1st 2 picks of season against him; reason for this ??? In their 1st 6 games, Streveler was hit with just 10 QBHs combined .. against us, he was hit with 15.

So we chased and hit him 50% more in one game than he saw in all prior 6 games combined. Games included YSU, WIU, Bowling Green, North Dakota, Indiana St, and Drake

Pretty disappointed with the Learfield/GoRedbirds.com highlights. We scored 37 points and they showed 3 of our TD’s and 1 INT by Harris. There were no other good plays? How about th other scores? 1 min and 10 seconds of video in a 37-21 game is sad.

I got an email from ISU that contained like 3 minutes of highlights from the game

Thanks hadn’t seen the email yet. Much better then what was previously in there!

Great win. I didn't get to see the game as I was off the grid all weekend. Keep it up, boys!

Congrats Birds, way to come back and reestablish your place in the Playoff discussion. Ran into a couple ex-Birds who went back for game and had a great time. Nice mention by Spack in post game that Football Alumni are coming back and instilling pride of Program in current Birds. As an ex- college athlete it is true the present day value of your athletic experience is in direct relation to the success of the current athletes and no one can communicate that better than ex-athletes. Ive heard Donte McCoy is very impressive speaker and was a great leader during his tenure at ISU.

thanks for posting. He received my vote. Interesting that one other candidate had same exact rushing yards, same 2 td's but did it with one less carry.

Davontae Harris blows

Right? I mean that interception was terrible.

Right place, right time after getting burned 20 times the past 3 weeks.
I was pleased with the coverage against SD because they played like I asked them to in another thread. They only gave up one long score - DON'T get beat deep. An outstanding QB like Streveler is going to complete a lot of passes underneath the coverage. That's not good but it won't kill you. South Dakota only averaged 6.3 yards per play. We had 8.6. They got a lot of yards but not a lot of points. We can win with that. The Redbirds DID win with that.

After a season and a half with Jake Kolbe as our starting QB we are still debating how good he is. My answer to the "how good is Jake question", is "tell me how long he has to throw".

This is nice move by Schnell. He fakes the lookin pattern and then as the DB steps forward he takes off and blows by everyone. It's a good play but it takes just a little longer to develop and it all starts up front with the blocking. The O-line gives Kolbe the extra second he needs and he's able to step into the throw. Kolbe fires a strike, hits Schnell in stride, TD Redbirds.

Some of the criticism this season has been over the top. "We have no passing game" "We need a change at QB" "Our receivers can't get open" "Our offensive coaches are being outcoached" yada yada yada.
Yes there is some truth to this. Every part of our game has shown signs of weakness at some point this season. But why all the extremes? Kolbe is a good QB he's not a Houdini escape artist. He needs protection to be effective.

If the O-line continues to improve everybody will look better. Kolbe will look better, our skill athletes (WR's and RB's) will look better and offensive coaches will look a lot smarter. Right now we can't call a double lateral pass by the QB like South Dakota did. Their QB stepped out of an ankle tackle by an All-American DT. That wouldn't work for us - but we're getting closer.

As far the MVFC race goes it looks like NDSU at the top with Mo. St and INSU fighting it out for the bottom.
Everybody else is in the middle with one step forward and then one step back. On Sat. we stepped forward and South Dakota stepped back. At YSU it will probably be the other way around. If we lose be fair in your criticism. Don't have a total meltdown. 25% less drama will do nicely.

Regarding Kolbe, I posted this in another thread, but fits here with Total Red's take on Kolbe. Written before Saturday's game:
#2, we can all see what we see this year. More is needed. But it isn't like Kolbe is a "bust". He's already in the top 10 in career TD passes, and will be #7 with a couple more. Looks to me like he's already #6 in career pass completions. #7 in career passing yards. He's NOT in the top 20 in career interceptions. #2 in career pass completion percentage. Top 10 in passing yards per game. #3 in passing efficiency per game, and probably has moved up since the start of the year. #3 in average yards per pass (and again has probably moved up since the year started).

Now I know liars figure and figures lie. But lets give Kolbe his due. He's a damn good QB who's having a bad stretch. He's played better and he can play better and chances are good he will play better, maybe even this Saturday. He needs more from his WR's maybe.

I had a chance to get to know Dontae while he was at ISU ... great great young man. Hardest worker, no nonsense, fearless, short memory for bad plays (very few for him), and led by both words and example .. and he was unquestioned when he got after people because no one walked it and talked it like he did. Who is this teams Dontae ?

So for those who did watch video, here is my summation of what Dontae said there .. "wake the f-ck up, stop the nonsense, do your job and play Redbird defense".

Coach Nowinsky needs to bring him to every game and plant him on sideline; then hire him after season is over. He is infectious leader.

p.s. note how several of the players had deer in headlights listening to him. hope some of the young guys took note.

Foresight and wisdom. Clearly the work of an older experienced fan that has a "few" seasons under his belt. ;)

Correct, not my first tailgate!

Speaking of which, had 4 Springfieldites under the water tower with us Saturday.

Just watched the game again on the ESPN app. Dean wasn't dominant, but managed to get enough of his assignments again and again to spring Robinson & Smith and protect Kolbe. Plus just a few plays in relief he put a nasty block on 44 that I think set the tone for the day. Also, you can see he's still not 100% on that ankle sprain. What can he do healthy? :D

Sorry if I missed it, but there was some talk of multiple redshirts being removed last Saturday. Anyone know the extent?

I didn't see any and checking the player participation in the box score I'm not seeing any there either.

Thanks. Happy to hear this. Seems to only result in regret down the road in situations like this. Makes me think Gibbs will return at Youngstown. BTW, I've read on their board that they are hurting right now.

Read same on AGS about them being banged up .. mainly on offense. If we bring the heat like we against USD .. could get interesting.

This one's shaping up as one we might be able to steal?
