Heading down for the game Saturday. Any recommendations for a good place to get a burger and beer before the game?
I would have been some help in the last century, when I was Carbondale quite a bit, but don't get there much anymore. I see Mary Lou's is still offering breakfast, and it used to be the best in town, and they have burgers for lunch, but no beer I think. Great BBQ at 17th Street Barbecue, one in Marion and another in Murphysboro, but that's not a beer and burger in C'Dale. Happy hunting!

Game planning for a QB that you have very little film on is likely our only advantage here. However, SIU will likely be able to make adjustments rather quickly.
This one gets ugly…

Okay:

EIU scored 24 points on us, one TD on a short field after a fumble, another on the blocked punt. Otherwise the D was pretty solid. Turned them back on downs 2 times in the 4th quarter when it counted. Our 2nd string QB came into the game, ran a conservative offense, scored once himself as it was.

WMU owned our D, prolly coulda scored at least a couple more times, and out O, with the #1 QB, looked like kids.

Butler, other than the one drive, couldn't get much done. We scored a lot and had a decent day on offense.

I've been convinced, even tho I like our D and we've got some reinforcements back since game 1, that SIU is gonna put up more than WMU's 28 and EIU's 24. Hard to predict our O, with the new QB and hard to predict RB situation.

So, unhappily I go with:

Big Red -- 17
Dogs -- 41

I think the odds makers have this one right. We get a couple red zone stops to keep it from getting out of hand. Maybe a late score against some of their reserves.

Did I mention that a Redbird victory would make a great birthday present for MadBird?? ;)
Happy Birdday to you. Hope we can make it happen.

We're missing some guys. QB is the most notable but the one that concerns me the most is having Isbell out at safety. His size, length and speed makes him hard to account for in pass coverage. Also, SIU might have the best big back we'll see this season. It would have been nice to have a bigger DB like Isbell to help equalize the crunch factor.

How about a 7 min drive for a TD and then get the kick to start the 4th?

Very impressive defense, solid offense in run game ... I may have to change my mind about this defense being ready for MVFC season.

We get the ball to start the half ... 10-0 Redbirds at halftime.
