Easy. Don't do what you're not supposed to do.

Nothing about bringing out the best from your teammates?

So once you make your first foul, first turnover, missed lay-up, bad pass, get beat on defense......you are no longer a leader. You've just ruled out every basketball player that has ever stepped foot on the court.

Why did you ask if you already knew the answer? Was this a test or something? I mean I would've studied if I had known this was a test. I thought this was just a sarcastic question deserving a sarcastic response. Silly me. Obviously you didn't bring out the best in my post! ;)

I have many opinions about what is actually meant by leadership. However, I never said I knew the answer, nor was it a sarcastic question. Obviously, I didn't bring out the best in your post because I didn't earn the trust in you for me to be a leader. :)

I actually find the term "team leader" used more and more, but defined in many different ways. I was curious what yours was. That's all.

Didn't realize we were still trying to get Fisher this year. Also didn't realize he had been named team captain. Excited for good career here.

Has anyone taken in a practice recently? Curious how Fisher, Hillsman, Ndiaye and Boyd look. I love watching Fisher and Ndiaye down on the bench. They are so into the game. Can't remember when we had guys sitting out that were so into the games.

I was at the Porter lunch yesterday and DM stopped by our table. He said Ndaiye has struggled with stuff, and is having a more difficult time adjusting to the game, you know, like a lot of freshman type issues. If Ndiaye had been available this year I bet Rey would have gotten more minutes, but that's just my feel. The coach said Ndiaye's injury slowed him down as well, but he still thinks his long term potential is every bit has high as before. It's probably good that he sat this year.

I asked him to compare Fisher with Phil. He said Keith doesn't have those quick post moves like Phil, but he'll be more physical and will be an excellent defender. He also said he can handle the ball and has a better outside shot. So I think Keith will be able play a large role next year, but probably won't score as much as Phil. My gut on Fisher is that he'll play with an attitude like Chastain's. Nobody will be calling us soft next year. Throw Rey in that mix as well.

He talked some about Bruniga being red shirted, and I asked him if he'll be 240 lbs next year, and like wouldn't that make a helluva tight end? Coach said 'Trust me, us basketball players aren't tough enough to play football". He also doesn't think Bruniga can throw a 90+ mph fastball (although I heard that on the radio).

He talked about how the league was going to suspend him 1 game for his comments about the officiating, and that he asked Porter Mosher to call the league on his behalf. Porter came through for him (as did Ben Jacobson). So hats off to those guys. Our coach and Porter are two great, personable guys. I'm glad things worked out for both of them.

That luncheon with Porter was really classy. Having to watch the game from Florida the TV guys were really complimentary as well. I never disliked Porter. At the time he came here he just wasn’t ready. The time with Majeros in STL have him what he needed to be successful. Despite what a few around here think he’s a good coach now.

This. I got to know Porter pretty well when I was on campus, always a great guy. Talk about a baptism under fire when he was our HC. The Valley was loaded top to bottom and we just didn't have the firepower, nor did he have his Xs and Os down at the time. I think had he got one more year he might've been here quite awhile...we saw how good Jank's first year was with the cupboard Porter stocked for him. But, all's well that ends well and Porter has done a tremendous job at LUC and has always been an extremely likeable guy.

Good post, Phantom. I actually think Porter learned as much from his experiences here as he did in St. Louis. You can learn from experiences that did not go well. Head coaching experience on this level helped set him up for success at LUC. When I trained employees, I would always tell them that I made all the mistakes so you won't have to :)

Great way to look at it. I'll add two more things that speak to Porter's character: When Zenger let him go, he didn't hang his head or bad mouth his experience at ISU whatsoever - and to this day STILL speaks highly of his time here and the University in general. Furthermore, as he left he personally encouraged all players to stay put and not transfer because he knew a big year was coming...and we won 25 and reached the 2nd round of the NIT.

One thing I'll never forget about Porter at ISU is him showing up at Waterson on Moving in day and helping students move into their dorms. Little things like that spoke a lot about the type of guy he is.

I got to know him well when I used to leave from Yorkville at 5 am some weekday mornings to listen to some of his breakfast talks at ISU. When I run into him now he still calls me Tpguy :eek:bscene-tolietclaw: :eek:bscene-tolietpush:

Re: Fisher, this was the subtle hinting a few other board members were hinting at towards the start of the season. I think part of the reason ISU didn't push hard for this is due to his thumb injury. Had he been granted he would have missed six weeks or so with that injury so there may have been no point in wasting time.

I'm not sure of the exact rules, but Muller has mentioned before that he believes Keith will be given another year at the end of his time, making next season his RS soph season (three years to play).

I like Porter as a person but hate how he acts during games.
