Tough not to like that guy. He is all energy, all positive, and everything a college basketball coach should be.

Boy we're lovin' Porter now...

The problem was never Porter's likability. Porter just didn't understand the game from a coaching perspective well enough at the time. He wasn't readyHe needed the time as top assistant with Majerus to learn how to coach well.

This exactly! Coaching under Majerus was the best thing that could have happened to Porter. Now that he has the coaching piece to his game on top of being able to recruit, he is going to be a force in coaching for awhile.

According to the Chicago Sun Times Moser and AD talking about extension and raise after tournament run. Moser signed a five year extension After last season that ties him up until 2021-2022 season. Loyola's latest "990" tax form-a document the university must file with the IRS and
make publicly available as condition of its nonprofit status-show Moser was paid a base salary of $420,211.00 from mid 2015 through mid 2016.

Didn’t Porter Mosher coach at ISU before Dan Mueller?

Yes. But in between them was Al's brother Tim Yankovich.

He made some great halftime adjustments that led to a 13-13 from the field start, with 12 of those being layups. Unfortunately, he also chose to take the air out of the ball with about 6-7 minutes to go and let them back in the game.

He also suffered from the likes of Justin Dentmon and other recruiting cracks, and crack pots (Weber). Saturday probably has extra meaning for him, above and beyond what winning an elite 8 game generally brings.

Define “tied up”..... Muller has a multi year contract that guarantees he is paid for many years by ISU even if he is fired but by no means is Muller tied up such that he can not easily walk out the door. I doubt Moser’s contract is as one sided as the private schools tend to be a little more savvy negotiating contract terms (not pay) , at least that is what I have heard from a sports agent that is an attorney. I don’t know if it is harder or more restrictive as a state entity to be able to do things differently or negotiate than the privates?

I'll get blasted, but sometimes there's just a divine touch to things. Chicago boy, relatively speaking, goes home to coach and runs his team deep into The Tournament with all of Chicagoland behind him. There's no question he got better as a coach by being an assistant with one of the great ones...but the timing is pretty sweet with this run.

As often goes with life, ya gotta have your butt handed to you on occasion to get better. It's our best education...if we're willing. Getting fired was probably the best route in getting him to where he's at today. Seems like he's arriving as a coach, certainly...but also seems like LIFE has arrived for him, as well.

The other thing to consider was the MVC was at its best when Moser was here and we were at our worst when he took over. He got Osiris to come here when we absolutely sucked. The MVC sent 4 teams to the dance in 2006 and 2 of them made the sweet 16.

Sometimes it pays to be patient. Dan has to get better in big games too, but we need to stick with our guys and they will get better and better.

I am so happy for Porter and the Valley.
