Am now just calming down from watching one of the worst performances by a Redbird team in many years. Even if the team somehow plays better and advances a game or two in STL, Dan has to go. The lack of consistency is maddening. Granted E’ville was going to play better in the Ford center, the Redbirds still needed to win this one regardless of how it was being officiated or our poor ball handling or poor shooting. The University needs to find the $$$ to buyout Dans contract . As others have said, 10 years is enough and today’s performance should cement a change. Inexcusable to lose this game.

I can’t say I disagree with you. However, an ambassador for the university could most likely be found for less than 550,000 +.
Muller is not Barb Smith. Yes, you can definitely find a coach for less than $550k. But we’d still be paying Muller his $600k, too. And a new coach won’t increase attendance, if the current Valley-wide dip continues.

Might as well give him until at least part of the way into the final year since our program still has hope; it shouldn’t even hurt recruiting, since everyone is a free agent these days anyway.

DISAGREE! He has been given enough. It’s time for him to earn it. Time to go.

Ok- hail to one NIT run. Too bad he had 9 other seasons to judge him. He also has been recruiting for 5 years after that run. don't forget his team couldn’t hold big leads in that season...in the Valley Tournament and the NIT. Matt Nagy had a 12-4 season- he was fired. Didn’t take 10 years.

I think the biggest issue is consistency. He's won some fantastic games. Then his in-game choices (TOs or lack thereof, subs, etc) lead to Ls. He brings in great talent, but then they leave or sometimes get into legal trouble, or they buttheads with him. He has a great season followed by crap. I don't think its a case of not doing anything well. We've seen signs of promise, it is just consistently followed by let downs.

I will never forgive him for blowing the big lead to UCF in the NIT, which saved the Illini a trip to normal. That game is literally once in a lifetime sort of chance, and dan couldn’t close out a double digit lead. Can you imagine how electric RBA would have been for the Illini game?

Attendance can’t get much worse, id guarantee a new coach will bring an uptick in fans and energy around the program.

I wasn’t referring to a coach for less than $550,000 plus and I don’t know Barb Smith. I was referring to an ambassador as a separate and distinct role from that of head coach. That could be obtained for less than $550,000. My thought is, if you are going to pay a coach more than $550,000 at this level, the results should be better than what they have been. ISU is not getting anything close to a fair return on it’s expenditure and being a nice guy and former outstanding scholar doesn’t make up the difference of on court results.

Anyway that’s my opinion.

No we don’t need to know. That’s for the athletic department to do. That’s what they get paid to do and it seems they have been asleep at the wheel for a decade. Nonetheless it’s their job but as fans we don’t have to be rocket scientists to see the results on the floor. (or should I say lack of results?)

I agree, Jerry. If not for the contract, we’d all be on the same page that it’d be time for all parties to move on. But Redbird Athletics is like the family on a tight budget that can’t just go buy a new car when the old one breaks down. Make the repairs that get you by and ride it out until you’ve saved up enough dough to invest in something new.

And who knows - maybe the old minivan surprisingly discovers a second life and keeps on chugging.

*Barb Smith was the WBB coach before Kristen Gillespie came in and turned it around. Under her tenure the Redbirds went from competing for NCAA bids to perennial Valley doormat. That’s why I say Muller is not Barb Smith.
