Well FedX does have a vested interest in the success of U of M playing in Fed X arena. Having lots of eyes seeing their logo on the floor and not those UPS guys. They are huge world wide corporation that also sponsor a pro golf tournament in Memphis. We need a lot of regional corporations and more locals to step up. Unfortunately, one our most recent donors was a crook. We need enough NIL money to steal from the lesser conferences to back fill the guys we have leave for greener manure!

Using the same logic, spose it would be "rude" to hit up CEFCU for some NIL to help out their exposure at the arena. ;)

So, your plan is to hope we can figure it out for the NCAA? Hope is a terrible strategy. You’re so f-ing cute when you try to be funny. Now, go back and read my posts.

I think you’ll see that I’ve said the NCAA needs to fix it, not us. I’ve said the NCAA should have been preparing for NIL, but they didn’t. I’ve said they need to be preparing for the likelihood that players will become employees of member institutions. They also need to prepare for contractual negotiations with the athletes’ union, the athletes, and the institutions.

Just because you can’t understand that I stated some things they should’ve done and should be working on, doesn’t mean I didn’t. Just because you think the NCAA couldn’t known NIL would happen, doesn’t make it so. They knew it. THEY didn’t plan for it. And, for crying out loud, when did I ever say I had the plan. That’s the NCAA’s job. Think about it. I believe even you can figure that out.

Now. Are done attacking me? I need to know whether to mute you or not.
A Deloitte & Touche study on the unstable environment of higher learning offers some advice for the future, including the seismic shifts in athletics. You can find their suggestions in the section titled “A new playing field: The changing landscape of college athletics.” When the split in D1 athletics comes, ISU will not be able to afford the “$7-10M” minimum annual funding for NIL pay. I would guess some in the power conferences won’t make the cut either.

This gets me thinking about the future haves and have nots and how it all shakes out. Maybe 50 schools are going to be able to raise the serious money it will take for both football and basketball. And, then possible 25 more that can raise the men’s basketball cash. Does title 9 apply to advertising? Isn’t Name, Image, Likeness a copyright/advertising function? But there will be entities that will want to monetize women’s sports also, but down to what level?
What do the rest do? Is the NCAA even relevant anymore? Especially at the elite level? Once again the question is does everyone at the current elite level get to stay there.?

Just my opinion but no way do I pay the cash to move to a low level just above FCS division 1 football. Not now. Does the valley fall to the OVC/Summit level or can the valley move up the food chain especially in men’s basketball?

If we are at the triple a level, hopefully we are above double a, what does it look like and how does it eventually work out? Long term I actually think this reduces college athletic opportunities. It is pay to play and how many schools just take a pass? Especially if the elites break completely away and there is no more dance money sent to small conferences, etc. Also being pay for play athletes who don’t cut it at a higher level now drop back to what, where? My guess if ISU successfully navigates this new world we are in we become an elite feeder school. Kinda like a super juco program.

Not saying I like where this all is headed. Not saying I may be completely wrong in my assumptions, assessments, and outcomes. But I do believe the sooner ISU and the Valley management put together people smarter and more knowledgeable than me on this subject and start coming up with a plan the better off we will be. The plan will probably need to be reworked every year, possibly every month but you better start planning for our new future.
