Love J Rob but the Bears are deep at RB. I hope he finds a home. If he’s back to 100% he can play good football.
You think?

I like Herbert, but Foreman is now dinged up and the other two dudes are not better than J Rob. Not by a long shot.

Former Redbird, Kasper Rutkiewicz, is listed as a starting wide receiver and punt returner for NIU.
Best of luck to Kasper. Kasper and Grimes were two players I really was sorry to see depart but I felt I knew why. What receiver would want to play in the offensive scheme the Birds ran before. I have seen a few comments about the lack of a deep threat or the depth of the wide receivers as a group. How do you recruit for that position with the pitiful passing game the Birds have trotted out. I think the new OC made strides last year and I expect better this year. Put the ball in the air and the WRs will come. That does not mean you have to dust off the run & shoot. In this day & age though you have to have a productive passing game. Grimes had a great career post ISU and it appears Kasper has done well at that school up north. Of course...Kasper has to pay the price of living in Dekalb, so there is that!

What - Fields?
2022 season stats
60.4%
7.1 yds per attempt
56.3 QBR
I will still take 60% completion percentage when Darnell Mooney was your #1 receiver and played in 12 games, EQ St. Brown was #2, Byron Pringle, Velus Jones and Chase Claypool came over late. Half the time the receiving core the Bears ran out there a high school probably had better receivers then what the Bears ran out there. LOL and don't get me started on Sam Mustipher and the offensive line.

Bears have a pretty good running back playing QB.
so true .. but this is the NFL, which sometimes stands for Not For Long. Fields is so explosive and dynamic, and he seems to keep his cool under pressure .. which bodes well for him figuring out how to be more complete QB at this level. But he needs to prove he cane be a pass first pocket/rollout QB, and only run as needed, with a few designed runs to remind the defenses they must stay home. So WRs will have more success with less double coverage, etc.

But mostly his legs should be used to buy time, and not to lead the Bears in rushing. The NFL defenses will figure him out eventually ... which makes injury much more likely. But I do like how he keeps his cool under pressure .. they too need an OL to protect, or we may never find out if he can be a pass first pocket QB. If he does, the sky is the limit for him.

Big win for Northern Illinois over Boston College in OT. He did not get a lot of catches, but Kasper Rutkiewicz gets the start at wide receiver. He had one rushing attempt for 9 yards and 5 catches for 46 yards. Not a bad individual day but a really big win for the Huskies. NIU also got a hefty payout. Bad deal for BC, an OT loss and had to pay the victors for the pleasure of it!

Too bad Redbird alum Josh Tolentino isn’t still in Tampa to write all about the “small school” guy done good. (The Athletic has since sent Josh to Miami, Green Bay and now Philadelphia to cover the NFL.)
Josh doens't work for The Athletic any more. He writes for the Philadelphia Inquirer
