Well, I'm asking if that record counts as "failure". Geez, you don't consider him successful? One stub of the toe and you're out. Seems "sudden". I'm not saying woe is me, just wondering how fast you get the hook these days.

But I know there's plenty of geniuses on this board and all over who don't give much room.
as mentioned look at the overall body of work...ncaa tourneys are annually expected at that level. do you believe making the ncaa tourney a big deal for tOSU?

yes. Well, "big deal"? Not sure - but enough to keep your job, yes. Met expectations,
No right or wrong as this is all a matter of perspective. I lean hard on the salary/perks and getting paid that type of income with that lifestyle has to come with excellence at some point. tOSU pushed out their prior coach who was even much more successful than holtman for not producing after a highly successful stretch. Expectations at that level goes well beyond ncaa appearances … conf championships/conf tourney wins/ncaa tourney wins plus intangibles with boosters/alumni..etc.

As far as not letting holtman finish this season it makes sense in this day and age to move now vs waiting for end of season given recruiting, nil, portal pressures.
I have no doubt Holtman will be d1 coaching sooner than later after any applicable buyout restrictions toll.

I'll borrow this thread, thinking coaching changes will lead to portal entries - Central Arkansas and Cal Poly have moved on.

Cal Poly has a couple 6'5 guards from Illinois, including Quentin Jones from Marian Catholic shooting 40% from range.

No "locals" on C.Ark, but a couple 6'9 guys who might be helpful, one with 6 the other 7 rebounds per game.

How many portal departs do you anticipate this upcoming off season. I would GUESS :
2 transfers most likely followed by
3 followed by
1 followed by
4 followed by
0

I debated heavily between 2 portal transfers and 3 as the most likely outcome and the typical fan Homer factor persuaded me to pick just 2. I also debated heavily on the most likely outcome of there being 1 or 4 portal transfers and Homer showed up again!

Who of these are on track to graduate this spring or summer? It’s either graduate or sit a year if they transfer.

Banks
Burford
Poindexter
Kasubke
Davis
Lieb
Foster

Sissoko should be close to getting his doctorate by now. He is the Redbird version of Sturtz (except he doesn’t play). I could see using his spot on the bench for a 2024 freshman recruit to replace Lewis.

Having witnessed first-round Illini losses among rabid friends of the Chief and stuck around for their reactions, making the tournament is regarded as a given. Sweet 16 is probably the minimum expectation for a school in the upper tiers of the B1G.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tyler Hicks follow Holtmann to DePaul. I think his X header has recently been updated with a picture of the Chicago skyline. He has recently been retweeting Holtman-related DePaul content. Maybe as like a video coordinator.

Tyler will b joining DePaul staff as Director of Basketball Ops effective 4/1.
Pedon was very supportive of Hicks advancing his career to a FT position with Blue Demons.

U got yourself a strong coaching network and fraternity between Birds and Blue Demons.

It’ll be interesting what Pedon decides to do with the GAs. Both graduate in May.

Hopefully this means the H-H series returns with the Depaul. It was a good time going 2-0 against them last go around.

I hope Wintrust being close to campus helps bring out their fans. Half of their four-student cheering section got tossed for unruly behavior when we played there in 2013, if I recall…

Or thereabouts. I should clarify: to DePaul students Allstate Arena might as well have been on the moon - they didn’t venture out there.
Yeah, I looked at the distance difference between Rosemont and Wintrust and it's about half - 15 miles to Rosemont and 7 to Wintrust. Spose easier to get to Wintrust on the el or bus. Not ideal. A few other Big East arenas aren't "on campus", but 7 miles still seems to be along way to go, especially to see a crappy team.

We have a hard time getting our students to walk 7 blocks to the game

parking around wintrust is astronomical for college kids and el walk from chinatown stop not a good in the cold months either. Plus el at that time of night is flushed with so many homeless these days. Students are to pay for a transportation ride and then have to worry about smell/sanitation and their own safety?....they would be foolish to do it. student day el ride to depaul game might work for weekend day games but that ride at night home would be too risky, IMO.
