Tony was there today. Assuming he was retained at least through the transitionGood information and makes sense on Muller and staff. Good questions regarding Wills and other potential assistants.
He's pretty well spoken. Articulate. Has thought through a lot of this, it sounds like. He's ready. That is a very solid interview with Katz. I am liking Ryan better all of the time.
GO BIRDS!!
To add to your list, Washington (who was there) liked the brief video recap on Instagram as well as most current players mentioned above. Miller has also engaged as well. That covers almost all of our top players and walk-ons. Based on the criteria, you can add DJ Horne to the list as well as a former playerThose are some big smiles from the players and coach. Of course, first meeting- handshakes and cameras all around, you have to be energized. Here are the current folks in the program that have engaged with announcements on social media, which could suggest at the very least, there is some level of interest in sticking around.
Current players: Reeves, Liam, Josiah, Stadleman, Samuels, Williams, Fleming, and Lewis.
"Future" Players: Tajuan & Takai Simpkins
Current Staff: Rob Johnson.
Also sleeper name for a potential staff member... Jon Ekey. Currently Video Director under Jank at SMU but played at Illannoy while Pedon was there.
We now have the automobile so it is much easier to travel out of the State.I watched too and was impressed. Everything has been said already. My favorite part was the 200 mile breadbasket. That is the key to success and getting players invested and staying at ISU.
My freshman year at ISU, many moons ago. 6 new recruits.
Ronnie Jones Southern Il
Del Yarborough Chicago suburb
Randy Smithson Normal
Joe Galvin Bloomington
Robert McCoy Chicago
Larry Lowe Chicago
Add them to....Jeff Wilkins, Billy Lewis, Derrick Mayes, Rick Ferina who were all from Illinois.
Those were the days. Let's get back to them!!
Sounded all good to me (with the exception of not mentioning the current team, in one way or another).
Jo's mom has been pretty active in liking things about the new coach. I wonder if Jo might come back since Europe is a mess right now. There was a mention in the Benson article where Pedon is quoted as saying "I've expressed to them I'm not going to sell them on buying something that they don't want to be a part of. The first key for me is always communicate with them in truth and honesty and understand where they're at in their journey and what they're looking for, at end of the day we want players who want to be here and take pride in being here and take pride in wearing the name on front of their jerseys. I'm very confident we'll find those players. My hope is those guys in the locker room are going to jump on board."
I've had Howard like stuff on twitter, Sy's mom and Josiah's mom like some of my stuff with the coaching change.
If he does I hope he can embrace that 6th man role again. The team was at their best when he was that instant offense spark plug off the bench.Jo's mom has been pretty active in liking things about the new coach. I wonder if Jo might come back since Europe is a mess right now.
Would be nice if he could be in Champaign this Friday & Saturday. After sleeping on it, I'm still pretty excited about the hire for reasons everyone else has listed. As I look into his background and listen to his comments more, I see this as the best case scenario: He's the guy. He's the Birds Jacobsen, McDermott or Moser. He's here for a decade, produces several NCAA Tournament berths. Then by that time, Paxton will have grown to be a 6'4 5* guard that doesn't even consider going anywhere else but ISU. He plays 3-4 years of high level ball and is one of the ISU greats. Once Paxton moves on, Holtmann either gets canned or takes a Blue Blood job and Pedon takes the OSU job. Birds hire an assistant off his staff as HC and the train keeps moving.
Worst case? I mean, the same thing that's happened the last 4 seasons.
This is going to be a fun offseason. I think my favorite thing Brennan said about Pedon is that he is looking to build a program not just assemble a team. Hoping for a first round loss in the Big 10 tournament as well as the NCAA tournament for the Buckeyes

Well, I get that he's talked to the players, I'm just saying he could have included them in the "public mentions". Would've been nice to recognize their efforts this year. There was a mention in the Benson article where Pedon is quoted as saying "I've expressed to them I'm not going to sell them on buying something that they don't want to be a part of. But don't get me wrong, I like the thoughts you included above and trust that Pedon is a great leader and it wouldn't surprise me one bit that he'll be able to keep some of these guys here AND more importantly help them reach their potential.
Yeah my guess is those thoughts were in the 10am press conference where the media was assembled. I'd imagine from what I heard they were similar, probably had what they said written down on a piece of paper except for when the media asked questions. And I think that was just so the media and whatever got their due time without fans being around.
I am thrilled with the hire, don't put words into my mouth or start that. I was just answering him about not responding to the current players on the staff and why there were 2 separate press conferences.Davebird,
I get the sense that you are not happy with this hire. Why ?
