There’s a lot of apologizing from Pedon and ISU, seemingly, prior to concluding any investigation. Unless there’s culpability to own, not sure why the apologies are being offered.

This won't be received well by many on the internet, but an apology and statement from Coach Jones should be forthcoming. His conduct on X crossed a line.

Agree. He needs to help clear the air and if need be, walk back his accusation. We might be waiting a long time.

A very well-articulated statement. As many have speculated on this board since last night, the key word here is misunderstanding as it pertains to Pedon's reaction. It is unfortunate that this likely won't be good enough for those who made up their mind last night and decided that his reaction could only be a reflection of a supposed attitude toward African-American players and nothing else, but that is out of his control. Ryan Pedon is very clearly a man of high character.

It is also unfortunate that the NSU coach chose not to give a postgame press conference and instead opted for his hometown newspaper and Twitter. There should be fines from a school's conference when that happens. It is unacceptable.
Agree and this is why I put 100% of the blame on the refs in this incident. It's clear and obvious that coach Pedon had no idea why their coach was so upset, yet he was clearly pissed and out on the court. The refs should have pulled coach Pedon and their coach together at the same time to tell them what happened. If they did that, this would have been a non issue. I'm sure coach Pedon would have been just as upset if not more so because it's our own fan that made the alleged comment.

I think that the NSU coach was completely out of line for running onto the court to voice his complaint with the refs. Now if a racial slur had come from an ISU player toward an NSU player, his anger and behavior would be more understandable and justifiable. But the slurs allegedly came from a fan. Unfortunately, ISU, nor Coach Pedon, has any control over what walks inside those gym doors. There is no pre-admittance psychological test on planet earth that can keep an unruly nut job from upsetting the Apple cart. So I don’t blame Coach Pedon for losing his cool when he saw the other coach rush the floor. Secondly, why should we ever trust the NSU coach’s (or NSU player) version of the story. Perhaps he conjured up a fake incident because he wanted to get into the psyche of ISU players and Coach Pedon and purposely bait Coach Pedon and the Redbirds and have them lose their cool and lose the game. Sounds like a conspiracy theory? Perhaps, crazier things have happened in the sometimes not so idyllic world of competitive athletics. Is my version of possibilities unlikely? Probably. But it’s not impossible. Finally, it was a tough loss. Still, I’m firmly behind Coach Pedon and I love the tenacity and talent of our team and think that loss will be a catalyst for greater days ahead. Go Redbirds!

You need to read what Pedon wrote. It makes perfect sense why he is apologizing. Listening is a skill.
Apologizing for not understanding the context for how everyone is experiencing all events in his surroundings, including reactions of possible hoaxes and/or lies. Sounds like everyone should be apologizing all the time. Pussification of America continues.

I never use the word. That said, and this will likely not be popular take, but until POC stop using the word non-stop as an adjective, noun, verb, pronoun, etc how can anyone take situations like this seriously?
I played in a rec league a few years ago and the N-bomb was dropped every 3 minutes. So much so, that the ref had to stop play and threaten technicals.
You take it seriously if it offends a POC that’s how! I’ve heard white people refer to themselves or other white people as “trailer trash”, “white trash”, or just a dumb r*dneck. I’m not white so it’s hard for me to take it personal, but the language is still offensive. We burn trash, throw it away, and no human being should be defined in such a way.

Not meant to start an argument, but just an example of how the lens is magnified with marginal groups, but accepted with others.

Yeap. This is actually what he apologized for. And rightfully so. Pedon got caught up in the intensity of the game and needed to use common sense instead of "I don't care, I don't care, I don't care"

Like I said, Listening is a skill. So is reading and comprehension

Also for those that say #6 should have reacted differently if he heard derogatory stuff.......each person reacts their own way. We've never walked a foot in his shoes. The same could be said about how their coach reacted to hearing that alleged derogatory stuff was said to his players.

I don't know if anyone is necessarily saying he *should* have reacted a certain way. I think people are saying that the reaction from Thomas, Davis, the refs, and those close to the situation casts doubt. The reaction was absolutely non-existent. Especially considering Thomas was the most expressive player on the court. It doesn't quite add up.

I have one question. Can anyone confirm that the ISU fan used a racial slur? Until that can be confirmed one way or the other, then my statement would be that we are investigating the situation thoroughly and when we can confirm one way or the other, we will make additional statements. If it is confirmed, ISU apologizes and informs everyone of actions taken against the fan. If it can’t be confirmed, then the statement could be the claim of a racial slur cannot be substantiated but the University will not tolerate that type of behavior. Someone knows if a slur was used including the fans who were tossed.

In one video you can see “flopping all game long.” But that’s all I could make out that was said with any sort of confidence. The rest is who knows. Nobody has confirmed hearing 100%. I’ve been told “it may have happened” and also “nothing racist was said” so nobody has a definitive answer. I doubt we get one. If the ref heard it that’d be closest we get.
