If it’s an academic choice there are still better schools that take basketball more seriously. It’s pretty elite academically, but the lack of support for basketball has to hurt. Ivy schools have had more success.I love my school really I do. But if I had had the brain cells to go to Northwestern I would have. I hate the fact that education is never even a consideration when we look at where an athlete should go to school. Maybe god forbid he wants to be a Supreme Court Justice someday. Anyway, IMHO nice choice kid!
You have the top of the B1G reeling in 4 and 5* kids. They are also adding big time transfers. Northwestern is recruiting against ISU, Miami (OH) for their prized recruit. Martinelli is a talented kid and will be solid, but he’s not feature B1G recruit and save coaches job day 1 good.I wouldn't knock a kid on choosing Northwestern. It's a great university in a top conference.
But I can question Coach Collins on fishing for recruits in the same pond with ISU, WIU, MiamiOH and Valpo.
My same thoughts. Although I hope that someday we are competing against higher level schools than WIU and MiamiOH for recruits.I wouldn't knock a kid on choosing Northwestern. It's a great university in a top conference.

Wisconsin, Wake, Belmont, Creighton and Butler all have really good basketball programs. They ARE the schools NW should be competing with for recruits.Come on people, NU isn't recruiting Martinelli to be their "prized recruit", they're taking a chance on a rising HS recruit. And almost every Big 10 school brings in some guys who are being recruited by MAC and other "lesser" conferences. They all do it. Not every recruit at every school is a 4 or 5 star. Wisconsin's (co-big 10 champ) only HS commit also had offers from Wake, Belmont, Creighton, Butler, etc. and ISU!!
Ivy League, sure, but some people would rather play close to home, still at a great school, on the lake, multi-million dollar remodeled arena, blah blah blah.
Stop the BS, go do a little research and see who NU competed against for 90% of their players.Wisconsin, Wake, Belmont, Creighton and Butler all have really good basketball programs. They ARE the schools NW should be competing with for recruits.
Not ISU, WIU, Valpo and MiamiOH!
He shoulda left after making the tournament. His iron was hot since nobody could win thereNU is on the verge of firing Collins for a reason. He is NOT recruiting at a high enough level. I wish Martinelli all the best and hope this was an academic decision not a basketball because if it was basketball he’ll be in the portal next year.
ISU outrecruited schools like SIU. Some schools sniffed around late but they didn’t offer.Good luck to Nick. Not sure why we're bashing NU's recruiting. I'm sure plenty of people wondered why Reeves chose ISU . . .
