But just a pail of cold water - I've tried to stay positive about Davis, but I've got three seasons of seeing him just being another guy, losing his starting job to a skinny freshman (who can score from all over and gave UW the boost Davis couldn't). Foster, you know, I'm reminded of our transfer from San Jose St., Mr. Fisher, came from a program with a couple seasons of miserable records and never really kicked in for us (not a total washout) - Foster comes to us from a 7-26 Monmouth team (much better the year before). Lieb, could hardly get any PT at all. So, hopefully they'll find what they're looking for here, MVC will suit them, Pedon will use them right and his scheme will fit, etc.

Okay, thanks, I needed that. Back to the kool-aid.

Happy Cinco de Mayo all!
Fisher had one season at SJSU, not a couple. He averaged 10.4 ppg and 6.3 rpg. He then sat out, followed by his one year here with 9.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg - slightly worse but still close.

He sat out the Covid year before moving to Pepperdine. I had higher expectations for KF, but then Covid happened and he appeared to use that to head back to CA. Where I was disappointed was 3 years of financial aid tied up in him for 1 year played.

If I’m not mistaken Indiana State lost there will be replacing their top three scorers.
They’ve had a very successful portal season. Some impressive players.

And they still have Robbie Avila. I think he’s an all league performer next year.

But I’m glad we are having this conversation. Sure feels good to be talking about a small amount of teams who might be better.

My guess is Foster did not come here to be a 6th man off the bench. Just speculation, but that was probably a deal-sealer. Akin to Kinzinger/Walker/Pence commits and stays. This will continue to be a work-in-progress. Lot's of potential danger in both the success and frustration directions. But to reiterate, this gonna be some fun-ass ball steaming those sneakers @ RA

Gotta love this trickle of a Wisky pipeline coming down 39, MadBird! The seeming Ohio wind and the Central Illinois breadbasket lockdown (other than our Fighting Irish flyer) seems like a helluva triangle. Especially enjoy the BIG10 footprint each seems to be developing, and let Powell Jr., Valentine, and Yak butt heads over 2-year Chicago/'Burb travel dudes.

You betcha! Lotta decent players in Wisconsin, not all that many end up in Madison. Probably fair to say some can't get into UW, but plenty of decent guys out there who go elsewhere. All we need is one a year from Wisconsin, another one from Ohio, one from Illinois, and Pedon's good to go.

There seems to be quite a bit of love for Dalton Banks here. Why are some convinced he starts over Poindexter? He didn’t do much as a Saluki, not saying he can’t develop at ISU. But feel we owe Mal a little love, he was playing pretty well the last half the season or so. Poindexter averaged 9.4 points shooting nearly 38% from distance. Plus 52-55 at the line which is stellar. All significantly better than Banks. Similar assist-turnover ratios.

Mal is better off the ball. Banks is a PG.

Exactly. As Pops and I’m sure Mal would tell you, he feels more comfortable off the ball. One of the themes of last years team was “no true pg,” now, there is 2. That will allow Mal, in whatever role, to play off the ball and come off screens to step into jumpers.

I’m someone who probably values to FT line too much but yes. Game on the line, I want Mal at the charity stripe.

I'd expect Mal, Lewis an Burford to still get plenty of floor time.

I’m not sure what the starting lineup will be but the personnel should be those that improve our main deficiencies from last year: defense and turnovers. The kind of players acquired in the portal seem to address that and provides a presence and potential that did not exist. So many baskets were given up last year by opponents driving the middle lane and coach did not utilize much zone to counteract the imbalance.

Mal is the best pure shooter on the team and we need him to keep opponents honest. He also can handle the rock which is another dimension he adds on the floor. Luke can hit from downtown as well and plays very good defense. I am thinking 8-9 deep as others have suggested. The second team off the bench is going to closely resemble the starters. This team is solid on paper and I hope it materializes to what we all are hoping - WINS.

Northern Iowa and Belmont are the only ones at this moment I would put at #1 and #2. Other than that I’m not sure I see a solid #3 I would put over the Redbirds at the #3 spot.
With Will Shaver backing out of his commitment to Belmont this will temporarily change my putting them in the top two.

A former Buckeye, 6'9 230 lb Seth Towns, is in the portal. Was Ivy League player of the year in 2017-2018 at Harvard, then had knee injury and transferred to OSU. Played some, but not all that much, then "stepped away" for a year. May have two years of eligibility left? Would be another nice post player to get.

Also had back surgery in 21. Currently, he would have to walk on unless someone else leaves.
