Original Ivy Leaque is smart enough to get an academic scholarship. Not sure the rules on thst skirting the total scholarship limit. Probably not allowed with basketball or football.

Any scholarship counts towards the scholarship count for basketball, and there are no partial scholarships. The only way he'd be able to get a schollie that doesn't count towards basketball is if he had one for football.

That said, if he were to come there is the possibility that he could get NIL money to offset the cost of school as well.

Pedon has until July 1 to renew a scholarship or send someone packing so a scholarship is still available. I'm not saying he would/should do it but he could.
Way too many injuries for anything other than walk-on IMO. But, I'm not a doctor.

The only 1 someone isn’t going to be here that we currently expect is if they just quit. They can’t even enter the portal.

You can technically still transfer after the portal closes but first time transfer would have to apply for a waiver instead of just being eligible immediately like portallers.

If a scholarship was not renewed would that allow for a player to transfer without restrictions?

I believe with the portal and missing that deadline it’d be infinitely more difficult to get a waiver. Nobody is doing that this late barring academic info comes to light or criminal activity.

I don't believe having your scholarship not renewed is enough to get a waiver, but depending on where you transfer you can always come up with excuses on how to get one.

I don't see it happening with the Birds, but it does happen with some other teams. Sometimes it changes as teams get late commitments and such and that changes whether guys think they will have PT. I'd suspect we'll see more than few as things like Caleb Love's landing spot shake out.

A former Buckeye, 6'9 230 lb Seth Towns, is in the portal. Was Ivy League player of the year in 2017-2018 at Harvard, then had knee injury and transferred to OSU. Played some, but not all that much, then "stepped away" for a year. May have two years of eligibility left? Would be another nice post player to get.

For God's sake, I kinda liked going to college, but age 26!!???
I mean, some of us like to take victory laps

But bouncing around that much for that long is ridiculous. I'll say it again: Let players transfer once with immediate eligibility. Every time they try to transfer after that, they sit a year. Watch what that does to all these one year jumpers.

The guys lost 2 years due to injury. If he can get an education and play another year (maybe 2 if he gets 2 medical waivers) then I’m not going to be mad or blame him. This is far from a guy jumping schools just because. Went to Harvard then went to his hometown. OSU moved on due to injuries so he’s going to Howard.

We did have a 7th year baseball player not too long ago. And those guys are probably averaging a 30-40% scholarship if they’re good. That’s like having an extra coach.

It’s also still short of an Oregon FB TE getting a 9th year granted. At that point, they should be calling you Dr.

“McCormick is not considered a significant NFL draft prospect, so returning may be his best chance to get playing time at any level next year. The tight end has already received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Oregon, so he would need to find a new way to receive academic credit in order to play again.”
