Sissoko has started 22 games in three years as a Redbird, including Muller's last year when he seemed to be in the doghouse. Seems for sure he could start again.

I've griped about his defense, but looking at the stats, he's only fouled out of one game in 3 years. Surprised me.

Guy is shooting around 55% from the floor for his career.
But the problem wasn’t the fouls. It was not being in the right places at the right times. You don’t foul as often when you’ve lost your man.

Yeah, I don't disagree, I just thought, with all the "three fouls in two minutes" that he seemed to get involved in, that he would've have fouled out more.

We'll see if poaching from the big ten is worthwhile. I imagine Pedon coming from Ohio St helped him on that front. Neither were impact players but I'm guessing he's seen some tape on them during his time there and had some insight from their assistants. Hoping we get another signed to give us hope that this class can move the meter

This gives us what, 6 guys including H who’ll b out of eligibility in spring of ‘25.

Pedon will have to dice that up a bit to level load the classes or coax a couple off early -

Personally being a landing spot for Big 10 guys is what I’ve expected from portal. Every one of those rosters potentially have guys for us - right now, Pedon’s focus continues to b on high character guys but the 15 to’s/game just killed us along with keeping Coach awake at night. The 2 new perimeter guys will help on that front as well as the 3 returning guys will improve their handles.

Love the fact Pedon has insurance pieces at each of Freshman positions. Pedon’s building it and u can see he doesn’t want to give games away as so many past Redbird teams have done IMO.

How many years of eligibility do the new transfers have?
They all join the Malachi, Burford and Kasubke class. All have 2 years including a COVID year. So, without COVID, they would all be seniors this year. I'll work on putting together an updated eligibility chart.

Currently have 3 scholarships open for 2024-25
  • Schmitt
  • Lewis
  • Open
Unless there is a player in the Portal that is going to be an impact player I would just pocket the last scholarship and use it to bring in 3 freshmen recruits in the 2024 class.

Like others have said, we are still a bit thin up front. I'd love to see a grad transfer big brought in with the final scholarship. Would still have three to offer for '24.

Nice article about coach Slay here. Very interesting that he mentions that there is one scholarship left to fill and specifically that he's working on something for it. I think most of us are in agreement that we want that last spot filled, specifically with a big.

A little off-subject but it is the off-season. Coach Slay is on his 9th stop in 14 years? And it won't stop there. Anyone who thinks coaching is a great gig is right but it doesn't mean it's easy. I have a buddy (an EIU grad) who started as a high school assistant a few years after I did. I'm 65 and have been retired for a while now. I bounced around 3 times and never had to move. He decided to go the college route. God bless him. 4 years at 4 schools as a GA. He's now at his 15th school as an assistant. Big 10 and SEC stops along the way. I can't even imagine that life. As he likes to say "It ain't all biscuits and gravy coach".

Really good article on Slay. Not just the content but the writing itself. He seems like a great hire, and a big part of - when you step back and look at things - what Pedon is putting together. Everyone got that first year pass last season. Now I feel we will see a noticeable step forward.

Trying to get a sense of who Slay is targeting is tough. Feels like his social follows align with just about anyone who has touched a basketball.

But you are right, a really nicely done article! I'd love one like this for every new player or coach. Easy way to drive traffic to a site and build up content....hint hint to any Videtters reading the board. ;)
