Butler doesn't ..... game should have been played earlier in the season and would have been an easy sellout. ISU/MVFC needs to use the weather to their advantage.

Butler is a D1 Win. It serves its purpose.

ISU has no say on the conference schedule.

It’s not easy scheduling. ISU had to beg and plea just to fill out their schedule this year with all D1 schools.

Next year is worse because we have a game that doesn’t count.

Can we talk about this a bit more? I feel like it's somehow gotten lost that we're going to have to try and make playoffs next year with a 10-game schedule...

can't we just commiserate over disappointing season that could have been ... and you had to remind us of this with elimination game just 2 days old.

well now that you've re-opened that sore .. I hope Lyons is still looking for FBS or FCS game and then buys out of St Xavier .... zero benefit, only down side if we're a bubble team next year.

Get out of this game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cpacmel says ETSU (OVC) is still looking for multiple dates. $33 million renovated stadium; sounds like a nice home-and-home to me. Other teams have still been booking games of late. But every day that passes makes it tougher...

WIU just agreed to a 2018 game with Montana State

Abliene Christian did the same with Angelo State.

ETSU as of 3 weeks ago still needed 2 games to fill for their 2018 schedule.

AD Lyons ... you will get ripped to shreds if we are a bubble team on the outside looking in a year from now .. imagine if we are sitting 6-4 in eyes of committee ... all eyes will be on you.

Buy out thee St Xavier game asap. ETSU will more than suffice ... and count towards playoff eligibility. Fix this now !!!!

Also note, WIU scheduled St Xavier in 2017, only to buy them out once they found a FCS game. This is why they were forced to play 3 road games for nonconf.

But they got it done ... so must we !!!

AD Lyons .. step up before it is too late.

ETSU for a home and home would be significantly better than St. Xavier. Travel costs might be a bit tricky (would we charter a bus)? That is a great region in the fall.

I definitely wish Valley teams would play more CAA. Provide a body of evidence that MVFC >>> CAA, if that's actually the case.

At this point I'll take us playing any game that counts. Figure out what it costs and make it happen. Sell beer to the common fans at Hancock if it'll help fund playing a full D-1 schedule.

But CAA would be nice...

I would be all for playing CAA teams for selfish reasons. A good deal of those teams are located around me and I would be able to go see the Birds in person for away games! Besides, after the spanking Richmond game ISU in a home playoff game I don't think anyone should be talking down about the CAA. They also have the reigning National Champion. Depending on which team they schedule it would be a good solid game. I don't know if any have openings on the schedule but I would love to see them play some CAA teams!

Montana State has a bad reputation for not fulfilling Home and Home agreements / taking the first Home date and backing out when its time to return the favor. ETSU definitely seems like a Win-Win for travel and level of competition/Win potenital.

While I love to think that Larry Lyons pulls up RBF on his phone at night before bed, I don't think he does. So if you really want your voice to be heard, you should email him.

I emailed LL. Here is what I wrote:

"Greetings Larry

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

I am writing you as a proud alum and diehard Redbird fan. I respect the fact that you are a busy man so I will cut to the chase:

Please, please……….buy out the St. Xavier football game for 2018. That game does NOTHING to help us advance the football program and it also could potentially hurt our chances to make the playoffs in 2018 with basically what amounts to a 10-game schedule since the St. X game will not count toward our playoff resume.

There are enough FCS programs that need games on their schedule (East Tennessee State immediately comes to mind) that you should be able to replace them. I understand there are costs and logistics involved and it’s sometimes not as easy as “1-2-3”. But it cannot be debated that this type of game does nothing but hurt our program and our brand.

Let a horrible FCS program play St. X. there are plenty in a 200-400 mile radius to for St. X to choose from. Do not let that program be Illinois State. The program and the fans deserve better.

Thank you"

I will let you know if he replies.
