I think we try to aspire to be in the same class as A10, MWC, AAC, and West Coast versus the next tier of MM schools. The A10 and most of the coaches in theses conference are making much more that coaches from the MVC. I didn't realize the gap with the A10 until the Schertz recruitment happened. SLU is at the top of the A10
SLU spends lavishly on men's basketball and not much else. I think their soccer coach is well paid, too. But that flexibility is something we just don't have. I'd be more interested in how we compare to the public schools in the other leagues you mention. JMO

SLU has an enormous endowment, ~$2B if memory serves. But even more importantly, the administrators there have more flexibility in how they allocate resources. No BOR, BOT, or state government involved. Title IX is less constraining. Fluidity between academic and athletic uses. I'm recalling how SLU was able to entice Rick Majerus out of retirement, back when ISU was trying to figure out how to pay a coach more than $300K. This is not new, is all I'm saying.
And they don’t have to split resources and NIL with football.

Foster has NBA aspirations. What P5 coach isn’t going to play into that along with offering $50k+ more than we were. I don’t see him having the overall tools to get there, but he sees no downside to the move. Perhaps he ends up like Marcus Arnold going to Illinois and sits the bench more. Or maybe his new school’s resources can focus enough attention to unlock some untapped ability.

I can’t see him going against a line of P5 posts who are 2” and 20 lbs bigger and having the same results. That’s just my opinion, but it doesn’t really matter if I’m right or wrong. We have to wish him well and move on to someone who wants to be here.
I’m sure Myles Foster would rather take $1 above from a P5 what ISU offered so he can play in front of a packed stadium every game (whether off the bench or starting) than play in the MVC’s funeral home environments lol

Am I the only one here who has never been approached about donating to NIL? I've been a donor for years, season ticket holder off and on the past 10 years, etc, and never been asked at all. Makes me wonder how ETN is going about soliciting for dollars. I'm not saying they're not doing a good job, I'm just curious about the experience of others.
As a past sponsor who lapsed after Learfield took over, I’ve been approached but the discussion revolved around potential feeding players for appearances rather than cash contributions.
My comment was more you get your first contract. Nobody is getting extended without results (except Valpo). Just look at Mullins.
Jake and Wardle might be the last of the breed that settles in as Valley stalwarts. Everyone else either moves up or washes out during or immediately following their initial contract.

Hey! We nearly packed the house last year - it just took “The Shot” by JK and $3 tickets to do so…

I wouldn’t really count Wardle. Covid basically ruined him getting a job after 2 NCAA appearances.

What's stopping the whole starting 5 from going to SLU especially if they have that level of NIL $? If a current Scvamore assistant is not being hired ..then ethically why would Schertz care.

That's worth way more than some P5 dollar prostitution. What are these schmuckers thinking??

It's a good question.

To clarify given the time of year we were looking at baseball/softball more than the revenue sports. They’re trying to build something with our NIL however they can, as they should; I can get behind these low-key proposals much more willingly than outright donating to pay players. The latter will take some time for me to get comfortable with.

And frankly, under the 'new rules,' that's exactly what I would do if I were Schertz.

I was just having fun, wondering why the players would turn down your fantastic product!

From what I understand, we could pay them millions but cannot ply them with alcohol - even if they’re of age.

So the brewery’s options are limited to the food in our kitchen, but if I’m an athlete I’d feel like a horse being led to water and fed lavishly but sternly admonished not to drink.

Serious question here that isn’t meant to be an insult to our players: would any current Redbird athlete, maybe barring JK, actually do anything to move the needle for you? Like, would anyone start coming there because XYZ player said to?

You all should be ashamed of yourself , a bunch of grown men hiding behind burner accounts talking mess about a young man trying to pursue his dreams and aspirations. Who oh by the way carried us for majority of the year. This is exactly why as a program we will continue to struggle because we have a nasty fan base filled with people who are arrogant and entitled. Thus the reason bad luck will continue to follow ISU basketball.

While I would have liked to see Myles stick around, and he was good for us this year...25 and 12 carries a program. Not 12ppg. Btw, I loved Ler Her Cry.
