Some quick math had the 14 seed averaged an RPI of 110 and 15 seed averaged an RPI of 128 last year. The net rankings make us look worse than RPI currently which is 141 on Warren Nolan. A win at Arch Madness likely will set us up against a 2 seed unless we (or Loyola) finish strong. If anyone else wins St Louis a 15 seed is a lock.

Write it down has my hot take.

There is ZERO chance that if ISU or Loyola win the MVC tourney, they will be lower than a 14 seed. Z.E.R.O. Zero.

I'll do you one better. I say there is zero chance that if ISU or Loyola win the MVC tourney, they will be lower than a 13 seed. 14 seed or lower? Not gonna happen. No way, nope.

ON ESPN they were talking about factors they don't like in NET that could be considered flaws by the committee. Scoring Margin (with a cap) is figured in NET. They argued this is a disadvantage to teams in tougher conferences. The MVC is still rated as a tougher conference than almost 20 of the conferences. They also figure in NET efficiency which covers stats like rebounding, turnovers, free throws etc. It does not figure in other parts of the game like charges, tips, staying with your man etc.

I doubt the committee is sold on NET. In the end, we all know that they will use any method they can to justify getting as many Power Conference teams in as possible.

Long time ago, but I remember ISU being a 14 seed after winning the MVC tournament in 1990. That was in the days when the MVC tournament was played at ONE campus and 1990 was our year thanks to the new arena. We were not the top seed for the tourney.
For those too young to remember, we were tied with Michigan at 70 with not much time to go, but lost a very close game.

Rico are those single numbers in the left column 200x? Like 5 is 2005?

Yes, that is 2000's. Sorry I made the table on excel and didn't change it.

It was brought up earlier in the thread. Someone asked if there had ever been a sub 100 team from the Valley to make the tournament. I was just bored last night listening to the coaches show and went through the list to see.

not sure if this was the bracket anyone was referring to, but SB Nation has us as the 15.

I thought it seemed like a lot of research...well done. If you're bored then go mow the lawn (that's what Mom used to tell me anyway).

I don't put a ton of stock in what SBnation puts out regarding Brackets, but I would love that regional. Us as the 15 and UK as the 2... Birds would flock to Iowa to give it some home atmosphere, and then the winner would play the winner of Az State and Baylor... the Baylor team that lost to Texas Southern, Ole Miss, Wichita State, and SFA. They are on a 6 game winning streak though.

Anyway, loooong way to go before we can talk about that any further

I refuse to look at these. It only brings up bad memories of years past when I got way too excited. When we win in St. Louis, I will study every single projection until selection Sunday.

Tied at 70 with 1:30 left to play. Birds played their hearts out against the defending champions who still had two lottery picks. I think the final was 76-70. I loved that team. Great seniors:

Rickey Jackson
Jarrod Coleman
Randy Blair
Jon Pemberton
Sonny Roberts

Loved Rickey Jackson. He played a remarkable game in the MVC semis against Creighton a mere hours after his mother passed away. I don’t know how he did that.

We ran into him in the parking lot afterwards and he was all smiles and couldn’t have been a nicer guy. Incredible memories of that team.

Think he still works at ISU Campus Rec.

I ran in to Rickey and talked to him after the Loyola game Saturday night. Haven't seen him in forever, but he remembered me and gave me the high five/half hug like it hadn't been oh, about 20 years since we had last seen each other. I used to work with him when I was in school and working for Braden Auditorium. Back then he was part of the staff that scheduled the events that came through Braden/BSC. Needless to say, my wife was really confused as to who he was so I had to set her straight. He was wearing a Campus Rec pullover too, so I'd say you are probably right in that he still works for them.

I gotta ask. When will recent results mean something? The NCAA can make up any numbers they want. The MVC delivered a final four entrant just a year ago. They should take stuff like this in account. They sure would for a P5.

You know that doesn’t matter. Unless you’re Syracuse.

I know this is going off topic, but thought those talking about 1990 would be interested in this website set up for the reunion they had a couple years ago.
