FWIW, our AC Mullins has suddenly acquired a taste for SIU-related Twitter accounts . . .

Telling you we should trade Mullins for both Beanes and SIU waves the transfer having to sit.

Anthony Beane will not be retained at SIU. Mullins will have a completely new staff. Also, Mullins still says Chris Payton is committed.... good luck with that.

You do know Payton didn’t leave the program because his grades...at least that wasn’t the main reason.

I know grades weren't the main reason for him leaving BHS but grades are the issue if he plans to go to SIU. I would still be surprised if he ever plays for the dogs.

Hefferman also reported despite Anthony leaving, both Beane players plan on staying with the program.

Oh, I know, it was Muller’s fault.

Speaking of Mullins...papa Mullins (Mike) is the director of the Illinois wolves and coaches their U17 team every year. At a tournament 2 weeks ago a parent was openly and loudly complaining about her son not playing. Mike turned and asked if she could calm down and discuss it with him after the game. The son did not like that and viciously punched (1X) Mike in the face. Mike was hospitalized and now needs surgery. Mike is a solid guy and always level headed so this type of action is shocking. The irony is SIU was a program showing interest in the player, Reggie Strong of Farragut..

there's no way this is what prompted the kid to punch his coach in the face. i'm sure Mike is a great guy, but the kids reaction tells me there's more to the story.

Holy spit. Heard about it didn't realize it was Mike. Were you there??

Birdlife, Mullins is a longtime player in that market. So we resort to punching coaches and/or directors when you're frustrated?? (BTW perhaps you are right there might be some sort of backstory to this whole thing. ChiRedbird fan would as close to the scoop, as anybody)

Who the hek will sign this kid now??

The next time you see Mike Mullins then you need to call him a liar.

My daughter’s boyfriend (college assistant coach) saw it and spoke with Mike a week after it happened it. The mom had been complaining from the time the team began playing in that tournament about her son’s lack of pt and she was out of control complaining in that specific game. You can see where the kid gets his temperament from.

Strong was arrested and charged with assault. He spent at least a couple of days in jail so the after story is told (I have heard that part from the chciago high school coaching grapevine ). The kid has an uphill battle big time but we have seen many times coaches being generous in given kids another chance esp if they are good in basketball.

Btw Humdinger agree with your comments about Mike... he is known as the founder/leader/manager of one of the most respected high level youth basketball programs in the country. He has a stellar reputation which is what makes this situation even more outrageous.

ChiRedbirdfan i trust you and others on this board that Mullins is a great guy. i dont question that one bit. and i fully believe this kid should be held accountable for his actions.

my point was that i find it hard to believe the kid would punch his coach for asking his mother to calm down and speak to him after the game.

maybe the lack of pt has been an issue for a long time. maybe it had nothing to do with the interaction with the kids mother. maybe mullins is hard on the kid in practice and in games because he sees talent and he's trying to get the kid to respond and play better, and the kid doesnt have the right mindset to handle tough love. idk.

again, just think theres more to it than the original post made it sound like. i could have said it better. didnt mean for it to sound like i was taking one side or the other.
