So who are the 13 scholly players?

1- Milik
2- Fayne
3- Boogie
4-Keyshawn
5-Copeland
6-Jefferson
7-Elijah
8-Taylor
9-Rey
10-Abdou
11-Boyd
12- Fisher
13-Hillsman.
WO:Chastain
WO:Gassman
WO: Hein.

Though Muller didn't speak directly to it, I believe Gassman will lose his and Chastain will stay off scholarship.

It'll be tough not to have at least 10 man rotation next season. All 3 eligible walk-ons can contribute. It'll be interesting to see how the minutes pan out. Everyone knows the top 5 to be the 4 seniors and Copeland. After that, minutes are available. I expect Elijah, and Chastain to be 2 of the top 8. I would love to continue to see Taylor get minutes too. It's hard to establish a rhythm playing 12 guys, but we very well could.
Can never have enough depth for the unexpected but a 10 man rotation is too much.

I see 5 guys walking at semester break and forming the first Heartland team and going on to win the NJCAA Championship.

Then Matt Hein replaces Sister Jean as the Valley feel good story and leads the Redbirds to cut down the nets at Minneapolis.

Spread it!

IMO, Dan will continue to gravitate toward an 8 man rotation. Can’t have players 9 and 10 cutting into minutes of better players. Waiting to see what Chastain brings, but I’m hoping Copeland, Clarance, and Jefferson are good enough to relegate Hein and Gassman to the walk on type minutes that their limitations should dictate.

Anybody else find it interesting when asked about Chastain being on scholarship , Muller clearly looked uncomfortable and avoided the question like the plague?

Still developing the spin for the Chastain and Romine stories. Don’t worry, it’ll be everyone’s favorite KoolAid flavor.

We have 10 scholarship players and 3 walk-ons who either played a lot last year or are expected to play this year (Chastain). We know we aren't going to play 13 guys so some of these guys are not going to play that much. Guessing beginning of the year Taylor, Hein, Gassman going to get more time. By the end of the year I would guess those mins will be harder to come by.

I think Clarance is the wild card. Based upon Muller's comment it sounds like there is still a lot of work to be done before he is ready to be a major contributor. Defensively what we saw last year is so far from where he needs to be that it will be hard to keep him in the game. If he can't stay in front of his man I don't see him playing more than 10 mpg. So that would mean Hein is probably back in the rotation. If there is one area that Evans made a lot of progress in his sophomore year it was defensively. He wasn't great defensively, but he at least could keep himself in the game long enough where he could knock down some shots.

I expect Rey and Abdou minutes to be lighter at beginning of year, but pretty heavy by year's end.

Here's what I would expect:

PG - Evans (25mpg), Clarance (10-15 mpg), Hein (5-10 mpg)
SG - Copeland (20-25mpg), Jefferson (15 mpg). Evans could slide over here too when Clarance in game.
SF - Yarbrough (25mpg), Chastain and Gassman split rest. Copeland could get time here too when Muller goes 3 guards.
PF - Tinsley (20mpg), Bruninga and Abdou split the rest
C - Fayne (25mpg), Rey (15mpg).

This of course all assumes no injuries. Arrests. Grades. Leaves of Absences. Other unsolved mysteries.

The key to 2019-20 is for Clarance, Abdou and Rey to develop a lot this year. Combine that with the incoming transfers and assumption Copeland/Jefferson are strong and you have a lot of potential next year too.

Just FYI I'm not updating the matrix without official word from HCDM or goredbirds.com. I moved Hein, but even though Romine appears to have been removed from the roster I'm not doing anything with him on the matrix till we actually hear he isn't on the team.

It's too bad Keith Fisher can't play this year. I think the only weakness is if Phil gets hurt. Other than that I expect us to rain 3's on other teams. I'm picking Josh Jefferson as somebody that will surprise us...

When your 6th-10th best players on your squad are better than the oppositions 6-10, you speed the game up and press.

I think we'll see a lot of up tempo play next year.

Last year, we had to revert to zone to protect our minutes and bigs.... we dont need to do that this year. It's going to be fun to watch!

I have enough confidence in Dan’s recruiting that I am not worried that Big Rey will not be able to provide quality minutes when Phil is on the bench. Some were so high on Krutwig and Williamson as freshman, but worried that Rey and/or Ndiaye will not step up.

Last year we have to play zone to marginalize our inability to play man to man defense. This year should be different as ISU seems more athletic.

Don't forget with Phil, Rey and the new #4 we will be VERY lengthy. I definitely see some zone lineup with those guys.

I do think Elijah is low guy on the totem pole right now. Here's to explosive growth from him. Whether or not Hein plays, perhaps, hinges on Elijah's improvement...like vboy inferred. Trust is big wth Dan. He trusts Hein far more than EC right now. EC...let er RIP, man!!

Disagree. Wichita has excelled with a deep rotation.

I agree. 23ppg AVERAGE is impressive - and it wasn't like he was up and down. He was very consistent.

UNI's Sweet 16 team platooned. 5 in, 5 out rotation.

Should I direct you to the wichita board? They despise everything about Illinois St and hate every single thing about us. You are sort of sickening.

Just sort of, Bombay?? C'mon, make a commitment! And...did I say something inaccurate??

I pay ZERO attention to the Wichita board, or Bradley board. Why do you???

Met many friends in Wichita who are longtime season ticket holders for the Shox, some high dollar and some hard working blue collars who sacrifice to contribute to the program...just like here. That board, and apparently you spend lots of time there, is not indicative of the whole of that fanbase. We've got a great rivalry with them, sometimes heated, and I love it. Would love to see us get back to a home and home with them. In the arena, they don't like us, and we don't like them. That's a fun game to be involved in.

I went to ISU, interned in athletics, worked for athletic admin and for two different AD's, stormed the court as a fan, flew newspaper airplanes from the top row of the upper deck, sat on the baseline front row with face paint, and sat on the sideline front row in a tie, jacket, and tassled burgandy kicks that were always shined with a shine. I'll always bleed ISU but I'm not so out of touch with what really matters in life that I'll "despise" a program and just hate people - which is basically what you're doing in regards to them. I admire great programs and frankly, Wichita's one of 'em. If you can't see that and aspire to get back on par or better than their program, you're blind and nuts.

GO REDBIRDS. And I'd take our coach 100 times out of 100 in a lower level hallway fight with a coach from Wichita State.

There are always meaningful exceptions but conventional basketball wisdom and strategy says otherwise.

So who's your 8-man rotator? Does it become a steady 8-man or do players fall in and out of that rotation? Sincere question.
