I hope Dan can come back someday and truly feel at ease here. 4 straight Thursdays, I think Dan as an AD would have fired himself and I would have fired him, too. The 30 day window is a very odd clause to write into a contract and does anyone know if this is common??

And I bet Larry is relieved he didn't have to be the one to let Dan go.

I hope so, but I don't see a grand slam hire. I highly doubt we'll have a coach before the annual house of cards begins to fall with all the coaching changes at the end of the year.
I hope Dan gets out of the coaching biz. Not because I don't think he can coach...but just for his long-term sanity. Stallings is like a new man now.

See you at RA, Redbirds.

I was glad when we hired him now I am glad when he gets fired. Whitey Herzog says a manager when he is hired knows he going to get fired I hope we can find a top notch assistant that has been a head coach before

It seems weird to me to let a guy go and then let him finish the season, but if Coach Dan resigned "effective at the end of the season", that wouldn't seem weird to me. For some reason. It's a little awkward, but seems "reasonable" as a way to thank our old alum for his service (setting aside how bad things have gotten the last couple years).

Clearly Brennan wants to get going on the search. It might help keep some of these guys around if they know the new coach sooner rather than later. On the other hand, with the portal these days, "cleaning house" might not be a disaster after all - plenty of guys out there to rustle up a team for next year.

Tommy Connor, top assistant at Utah for the last few years but out with the coaching change prior to this season - not sure he's caught on anywhere. Top assistant to Majerus at Utah (and played for him there), and then also top assistant to Larry Krystkowiak at Utah. Possiibility? Could plug right in.

Well past due, but I'm glad it's happening. I hope we can use this timing to our advantage to get a good look at possible coaches.

Needed to be done. Can't say I'm going to celebrate it, just cuz I think it's a bad way for a legendary alum to finish things with the university. It's why Collins never considered coming back, and didn't want Chris to come here.

Finishing out the year is weird, to say the least. If you're going to fire him, fire him and move on. Then again, I'm sure I don't want Jones leading the team the final few games. I feel bad for TWills and Johnson, having just been added to the staff this year.

Pretty sure this confirms any thought Reeves might have whether or not to stay (gonna go). Simpkins twins prolly won't sign now unless Johnson stays on.

At least Brennan gets an early start on identifying/targeting our next coach.
So Collins’ were too afraid of failure to take the ISU job? Please.
Also, how good are the Simpkins twins? I’ve seen nothing regarding any interest from other programs

Ask him yourself since you seem to know how he thinks. He has publicly stated his position.

Ham Donger!

Unfortunately for Dan he inherited Kevin's stiff camera appearance so analyst jobs are probably a stretch. I'm sure he'll land on his feet somehow. Maybe take some time off to rethink things

To all those that have been withholding their gifts to the athletic dept., they now can now flood it with cash to support fully support the program.
Right? The way they boast, we should have an athletic budget to rival Michigan fairly soon

From the panty article out now it was because they had to give him 30 days notice
Correct, Per go redbirds.com

"Given the contract requirement of 30-day notice, it was imperative to make a timely decision to begin the search process for a new coach. This will allow us to find the best candidate and provide them with the time necessary to recruit prior to the upcoming April signing period," Brennan continued. "On behalf of Redbird Athletics, I want to thank Dan and Melissa for their service to Illinois State, wish them well in the future, and know they will always be Redbirds."

I thank Dan for his many years of dedication and passion for the program and ISU. I’m sure he’s the most disappointed person around that he didn’t lead the program back to the tournament. I’m forever grateful that he was such a huge contributor to some of my favorite memories at ISU and hope he has success in whatever the next chapter is.

Wish him nothing but the best.

Go You Redbirds
