I agree that this could have gone the other way but I'll admit that I'm biased and I'll argue that the officials made the correct call.

Here's the definition of a catch -

To catch a ball means that a player:

  1. Secures control of a live ball in flight before the ball touches the ground, and
  2. Touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then
  3. Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc., and
"Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him perform an act common to the game." You hear some announcers say that the receiver needs to catch the ball and then make a football move to establish possession. I submit that my client Wenkers Wright did just that. He caught the ball at the two-yard line. He turned his body and headed into the endzone - football move. Not knowing exactly where he was he deliberately held the ball out in front of him. He lost control of the ball at that point but he had already -
A) broken the plane of the endzone B) traveled 3 yards with the football while making a football move
C) controlled the ball a yard deep into the endzone. 2 pts. REDBIRDS!!!!!! The defense rests.
He didn’t lose it till he

The Birds have been to Semis twice. Lost to Georgia Southern in '99. Win against New Hampshire. The NDSU game was the quarterfinals. There was a graphic during the game that gave Spack 2 Semis appearances. It was incorrect.
That’s my fault. I just remember that being our 3rd game and forget the opening round games.

We played them better than any playoff opponent. And yes, we got jilted out of that return for a TD.

Glad we pulled this game out. Is there still a shot at the playoffs? A small one. 7-4 will still get us a look. The only game that matters right now is how we do against Murray State.

Regarding our playoff chances, my biggest concern is where we fall in the MVFC hierarchy. I see the MVFC getting 6 teams in. I don't believe we have ever gotten more than 6 teams in although this is the first (and only) year of 12 teams. We are in 8th place right now. I believe we need to win out in addition to 2 teams above us reaching 5 losses to gain an edge over any of those teams with our SOS. This seems extremely unlikely. I hope to be proven wrong. In any case, let's get to 7 wins!

His reaction with the "Oh no!" hands-to-the-helmet "'Doh" reaction wasn't actually the best sales job to coax a reversal; but, hell, yes, after some of the breaks over the years, I'll take the karma pill.

I told my wife the same thing. We have a pretty good drama dept. Maybe we need to get someone over there to help our Birds with some acting skills. I was amazed it was called good. In real time, it looks like a drop. Happily, I was wrong.

GO YOU REDBIRDS!!!

PS Ever since they pulled our flag down, after they said they couldn't play the game a few years ago, due to snowy conditions, I really enjoy watching misery st get beat.

Listen to WJBC while watching TV. Remembering the 2018 bogus stiff arm called on JRob costing us a playoff bid.
My mom asked me about this but I kinda remember it but not really sure, I do remember losing a game but not really the important details.

Regarding the Wenkers play I wasn't sure at first but he caught the ball and made a football move by turning upfield. Once he crossed the plane the ball is dead and it's a conversion. Catching the ball in the field of play turned him into a runner and virtually saved him. I am usually harsh on officials especially reviews but both reviews on the last drive they got correct.
As far as going for 2 on the last drive, imo it was the only choice to make. We had to go for 2 and I was glad to hear Spack say on WJBC postgame that he told Petersen before the drive started, if we get a touchdown get your best 2 point conversion attempt ready bc we are going for 2. Great call

GO REDBIRDS.

Tought way to lose for MoST. On one hand, he made a football move right after catch and touchdowns are technically instantaneous ... assuming they felt he made a football move and therefore had possession.

But that was a 50/50 or so call. I can see an argument to support the reversal. But also see their argument. That said, if he doesn't reach put his arms, it never slips from his hands. Plus he turned and took a step prior to extending his arms ... those are football moves with possession.

Still a very tough over rule.
Wow!! What a break, was a great call for run pass option but I thought he dropped it

Hard for me to be unbiased. Usually a bad officiating crew makes an equal number of mistakes re both teams. Today all the bad calls seemed to go against us. It took forever for the replay crew to correct the spot on the 4th down play; same w the 2 point conversion.

It seems there have been more posts lately about Spack’s future than about the team. Please don’t accuse me of “drinking the kool-aid,” or seeing everything through rose colored glasses, but it’s clear to me that no one has done more for Redbird football than Brock Spack. I hope we all will focus more on our team and less about the Coach’s future.
I find it especially annoying when it is being done on game days. Spack is a grown arse man, but it's game day. Either you're rooting for a win or your essentially rooting to be right about firing Spack. Saw way to much of latter. There are 80 plus kids our there playing their hearts out for themselves, the fans, their families, and their coaches. Many read this forum ... cant they have wait til game is over to vent??

This seals it but mainly because we also know he first catches ball facing QB. And his instinct to reach for end zone looks even smarter with this frame. I first thought why even reach ... but he doesn't know if or when he will get hit. But he had to cross the plane .. well done Wenkers Wright !!!!

P.s. just sell it better next time !!!

Someone tell Terrell Owen's to go cry another river 😢😭😪!!!!
