And hopefully now that the state has a budget in place and a few more dollars to the schools, we can actually build on our enrollment rather than swimming hard to keep even. So many positives going on at ISU right now, the kids see the redone downtown, the area around The Edge, Hancock Stadium and the new off campus housing and its an easy choice for many to head there.

Overall enrollment goes from 20635 to 20878, seems like sensible enrollment growth that the school can manage..

With the extra roughly 250 students, that's and extra roughly $130K in athletic fees going to the athletic department..

So I guess we'll see how long our newfound Redbird football fan sticks around or not.

ISU fan or NIU foe ?? Only time will tell .. let's see if he loses interest in this forum.

EIU enrollment up 3.7% to 7806, they are doing a great job attracting new students down there

Wow looks like I've missed the fun. But I'm here now. Knock it off. If you want to discuss the finer points of recruiting high school seniors to go to a school via their guidance counselor, take it to private message.

No problem...but you actually did not miss any fun at all!

Its my responsibility to the students to direct them to the best schools, so I absolutely will direct kids to ISU over the directional.schools. Just like in most cases I suggest UIUC over ISU and UIC if they can get accepted.

I really hope you are lying about your "profession" because you certainly do not act professional. With the multiple college football message board accounts that I have found under the name Jons99 I find it a little unnerving that you have that much influence over a child's choice of college. I wouldn't be surprised, due to your actions on multiple message boards, of you putting down students who decide to attend NIU, EIU or UIC. For you to call NIU a "dump" or a "dumpster fire" or an "armpit" but realize that students that you have "guided" actually attend that school seems a little disheartening to me as an educator.

I will say this: I graduated from Northern in 09. I had some great friends attend Illinois State who graduated that same year. My friends who worked hard at both schools are now successful teachers, professors, businessmen, engineers, speech pathologist, psychologist, social workers and lawyers. We all remain friends and had a great time last weekend meeting at Huskie Stadium. While we have a small rivalry between us it rarely comes up unless the Huskies and Redbirds are playing each other in football once every 20 years. I know for a fact that everyone I know that has obtained a degree from either ISU or NIU has no problem working with someone from the other university. Do we honestly think Jons99 feels the same?

This will be the last comment I make on this issue. You guys can keep the troll. See ya'll in 2026.

I think its a little unnerving , creepy and yet kinda funny that you get so undone by my comments about NIU that you search other message boards for my username and then post on an ISU board to argue with me... So who is the wack job??? ha Some of the people on your board absolutely torched ISU, if me pointing out that ISU is considered the better school is unprofessional in your mind, then so be it. Since you graduated in 2009, NIUs enrollment is down about 1/3 so clearly there are issues there.

Rarely do the kids ask for my view of where to go to school, but when they do I will give them my opinion.. And based on our demographics, I feel that ISU and UIC are the best options in the state for the mid-tier college student wanting to attend a state school. If you have any data or comments that suggests otherwise, I would actually be interested in hearing what you have to say, change my mind.

I also think you are overstating the importance of high school guidance department in 2019 LOL, kids today are independent and doing their own research, setting up their own college visits, which is where the decisions are really being made.

"a little unnerving , creepy and yet kinda funny" ??

Not once have I done a search on any NIU message board person or have I gone to their board to make personal attacks, apples to oranges

SIU enrollment down 8.75% to 11695.. makes one nervous how competitive their athletic programs can be with enrollment in a free fall.. 1037 freshmen, about the same as Stevenson HS

congrats on your 2 years on forum and you also just hit 100 posts ... I wonder how many are ripping NIU ?

Again, we'll see if you stick around and expand your bandwith across the rest of our 2019 opponents. Got several big games later in season. roster has playoff potential ... very exciting stuff for Redbird fans ... bigger than NIU once we get into conference play ... right ???

In college football, NIU is very accomplished and we should be striving for what their program has been able to accomplish with their limited budget. It is possible as many others have done it. But ISU is not striving for that level or else we would already be there.

I watched Georgia State University, who recently transitioned up to FBS, just beat Tennessee 38-30 at Tennessee. Many places have figured it out.

Step 1: Relocate university to a metropolitan area with 5 million + people
Step 2: Increase student enrollment to 50,000+
Step 3: Reconfigure a former Olympic/Major League baseball stadium into our football stadium
Step 4: Move to FBS
Step 5: Beat Tennessee
Step 6: Come back to reality and watch Morehead State in our half stadium.

Tennessee must really suck. Georgia State was 2-10 last year.

NIU game was by far the most interesting game on ISU’s football schedule, IMO.

I hear a lot of SEC talk just from being around my daughters and their husbands. Tennessee hasn't been Tennessee for a while. I imagine the natives are getting restless.

And we would pass NIU quickly as the #3 football program in the state, we have a better fanbase, enrollment and athletic budget.. its something as a school we HAVE to achieve, its for the benefit of the entire university.

I use to think that. How has being the #3 football program in the state been a benefit to NIU? Seems like the place is falling apart. Especially the Athletics Department.

Our last home playoff game drew 5300 fans. Second round. I was there. It was 50 degrees outside. That is not a fanbase. Every butt has a seat. Our seat is right where it belongs. We should own it.

For the record, NIU is currently tied at 14-14 with #13 Utah in their house. A win by the Huskies makes the ISU loss look MUCH better for SOS arguments
