If we beat YSU, we knock a good team out of the playoffs. If we lose to YSU, they will probably make it over us if we both finish at 7-4, meaning we would probably have to win out at that point. I believe we can make it at 7-4 if we beat YSU. However, if that is the case, it means a potentially less than attractive loss vs UNI or MoSt. A lot is at stake next weekend. I am starting to become more concerned about the MoSt. game than the UNI game. I think we will fare well vs UNI at home.

The top 5 is very good... I expect the committee to find a 6th team.

All in all, a pretty nice day in Redbirdville. All of that crap weather we were fretting about pretty much came and went before game time, other than the nasty NW wind. A few quick rain showers early on was pretty much all we had to worry about. I turned around and gave Total Red the high sign when the sun came out just before kick-off, but then a few clouds and the showers passed by just to stir things up. But all in all not a bad day for a ball game.

Total Red's "what are the odds" post didn't mention Annexstad was the leading rusher in the game too, that wasn't to be expected. Offense looked pretty polished yesterday, took care of business, 9-17 on 3rd down conversions, holding Sycamores to 2 for 12.

Looking for the bad, no one has mentioned Wagner's punt into the stands - that's right, he shanked one up in the stands. If I picked the right one from the play by play, a 14 yarder! He had 4 punts for 101 yards, a 25.2 yd average, with the longest at 39 yards. So, 3 punts for 62 yards. Now, to be fair, the wind was nasty blowing from the north. Gotta take that into consideration. And I don't mean to pick on him. But still some work to do on the kicking game.

The two picks were very nice to see. All in all, after the big buildup the ISUblue QB got, he was throttled pretty well. 8 completions for 77 yards.

Total Red pointed out young Jake Anderson on the D line, and the fact is there is a lot of young talent taking up most of the PT there - Anderson, Greg Galloway, Nick Kessler. Good young talent at LB too - Niekamp, LD McCoy, Reese Edwards, Leyden.

Hard for me to predict where they go from here. They've looked polished at times, but then, Ind. St. is 0-6, Lindenwood is Lindenwood and 3-4, WIU is 0-6, Dayton 2-5. Combined record of teams we've beaten - 5-21. Gotta get after it vs. YSU. Always nice to beat up on Pelini . . . . . oh, wait . . . .

YSU smoked SIU a week ago so this will be a tough game.

I am personally surprised that Jake Anderson is getting so much playing time. Nothing against him at all, he just played in a small conference and is only a redshirt freshman. DuPec is in class 3A. NUIC is one of the best small conferences in the state though, consistently sending teams to the state championship with multiple D1 recruits over recent years. He has a good frame, but I figured it would take him a little while to get acclimated. Very encouraged by his progress. His bio said he was born in Freeport, home of Zeke Vandenburgh and Keondre Jackson. We might be creating a little bit of a pipeline up there. Some really good football players.

Fun fact - In the 3 seasons (2020,2021,2022) and 26 games leading up to the 2023 season the Redbirds scored 40 points just once. That was the '21 opener against Butler an FCS non-scholarship program. The Redbirds scored 49 in that game.

So far this season the Redbirds have scored 40 or more points 3 times in just 6 games.
Now that's a stat.

The "modern game"!! ;)
Peterson and Annexstad are getting more leash. Earned a lot in SDSU game. Showed after pick 6 against ISUb.

Love his use of TE ... so vital to keeping defenses honest with their Safeties.

Just hoping we get Mueller and Blake more back to full health in run game. Not to mention, Wenkers Wright and WR Carr.

The crowd on tv looked really bad.
Was listening online from Tahiti. Radio guys, who do a solid job, were occasionally washed out by crowd noise on exciting plays. Unless that was the Fiala Brother's Redbird Crowd Generator. "At Fiala Brother's our manager will get you DP Dough Tot's (tm) if you treat him nice. Fiala Brothers... Come for the beer, stay for the tots"

Did you say...Tahiti?? I could be wrong but that might be the first reference to Tahiti I've seen here. Congrats! Tell our Tahiti'ans we said hello.

44 points and the backups played the majority of the 4th after the pick 6. So, it could have been much worse than 44, but it was great to be able to sit and sip on an Empower the Nest in the Hancock stands while the Birds just flat out chopped down the Trees.

Yes, the Wagner punt mentioned above was abysmal. Have never seen one shanked that far into the stands before. Guess he felt like giving out a souvenir to a lucky fan. That said, glad he hit all of his 5 PAT's that got put down (1 bad snap) and his one FG too.

We stayed for the entire game and I think it was Dwyer out there flying around making plays late. He was bringing big energy later in the 4th when the game was way past decided. Good for him.

Seriously considering coming back up on the 28th for the UNI game. It was good to talk to a couple people at the CindyGate even though we arrived too late for the pregame shot. It's been a while since we've been able to come up with our daughter's insane sports schedule.

Hopefully we can pull the upset in Penguin town this weekend and we'll be riding a very positive wave for that next home game.
