Our schedule just freed up for Saturday, and we're not scared of some wind. So, my wife and I are going to make the trip. The only question I have - is @Cindy00 Gate still in the same spot? Hope to see some of you there if so.

Sounds like the same spot to me! Thanks.
Between CEFCU and Turner on the grassy area next to College Ave. We'll be there at 7 am setting up. Hoping the wind isn't to bad so we can have the tents up, otherwise really hope the rain isn't to bad.

GREAT WIN! Anyone know what happened to Eddie Kasper? I don't think he played again after the first quarter. I'Shawn Stewart was not dressed (or he went out early in the game?). I also thought it was a little strange how they rotated the offensive line. I think Ron Carr got more playing time than Kobe Rios. Pretty good game by the o-line though. It was nice to see Connor Leyden make a couple of big plays. We will probably lose some in the portal, but we are building a lot of depth on defense. I believe Campos, Leyden, and Niekamp all play primarily Mike and I would consider them all starter material going into next year.

Great win ... didnt watch but that was sign of progress. Loved how we bounced back after pick 6 on first drive.

Fun game to watch. The broadcast did not kick in until after the pick six so I missed that. Seems ISU is the very worst at broadcasting. Almost always seem to be technical issues of some kind. Also the camera work on this broadcast was pretty bad. Still the game was solid and Zach had a very good game. The defense bounced back totally. Keep it up heading into next week!

I watched the NDSU v ND game before I switched to the Redbirds. North Dakota looked very good. NDSU did not look bad but I think there time has passed. A good football team still but not close to a dominating football team. I hope that is the case. Nothing against the NDSU fans but I am sick of seeing the Bison walk over the entire FCS. I think it will be better for the game as a whole to restore some competition. The Bison get WIU and Murray State next so almost certainly a couple of wins there. Then they play SDSU in Brookings. I have to pick the Jackrabbits in that one. A three loss season for the vaunted Bison? Their fans will be jumping off rooftops.

Good game today Redbirds!

North Dakota on the road will be tough in the final week. Need to seal up a spot in the playoffs before then! Need to win 2 out of next 3 games. I believe this team will be able to get in at 7-4. That used to be a given in the MVFC. The league is tougher than it gets credit for this year.

The crowd on tv looked really bad.

9100, which was about what I figured it'd be given the weather. Crowd was pretty into it though and the students were good, so we'll take it. The east side always looks shitty though, even if its packed. I think it's the angle of the stands combined with the horizontal benches. It just gives the illusion of people being really spread out and empty.

As for the TV broadcast, they are ALWAYS junk. It's come up here before. It's nice to have games televised, but the production from Marquee is awful. Cameras aren't H-D, audio is garbage (never not a malfunction of some kind), the camera work is lazy and unsteady, the graphics are amateur and the direction is lacking. I've said it before, it looks like HS game film from the 90s.

All that said, good win. Needed to come out and hammer them and we did.

Besides the very late start to the broadcast, the camera work bad and whomever was directing this mess evidently was trying to be artistic. Before the plays shots a player, rapid change to another view, rapid change to another view and then focusing in on a side shot just before the snap. Quite a few shots of plays from the end zone as well. Someone needs to tell them the worst seats in the house are end zone seats. So why insist on so many end zone shots. The camera person lost the play quite a few times. We only saw one touchdown because of replay. I know these are students for the most part but this telecast was crap. Someone should tell them to drop the artistic efforts and just show the game action. Camera people...don't watch the action over the camera...LOOK THROUGH THE LENSE! I could go on but I am glad I get to watch the Redbirds from here in Virginia. It is just irritating sometimes with the very poor quality of the broadcasts. I watch quite a few FCS games and my own opinion is the ISU broadcasts are the worst. Granted I watch them more than anyone else but I just don't see the same poor camera work and particularly the terrible direction. Okay sorry, done with my rant. I was just mad when the game finally came on and it was 7-0 already. I had to go to Randy's X (twitter) posts to find out what happened!

not so sure 7-4 will get us in, unless we have mostly quality wins and losses.

Suddenly UNI is looking much less formidable. We destroyed ISUb and they plated UNI very close. But YSU and UND looking strong. MoST is not going to be easy on road, but after yesterday, feeling better about that game. SIU still very solid, but slipped some.

Anyway, it feels like it could be coming together. Main problem is lot of depth in MVFC .. SDSU, UND, NDSU, YSU, USD .. then teams like SIU and ISUr.

So right now, our best hope is if selection committee believes we are a 6 bid league or someone else slips.

But we will have to beat YSU or UND on road. But if we lose to both, and win out ... I can't see getting in at 7-4 unless both are competitive games. And we win decisively over UNI, and the other 3.

Of course, it also depends on the other bubble teams .. so who knows.

and that's why I'm not a betting man. The Redbirds won by 37 as they easily covered a point spread that I considered too generous. What were the odds of that?

The Redbirds put up 44 points against INSU after scoring just 13 against Eastern 3 weeks ago. What were the odds of that?

The Redbird defense pitched a shutout. Not a single Sycamore point was scored with the Redbird D on the field. What were the odds of that?

The shutout came with our star LB'er having his worst game yet. Tye Niekamp did not record a solo tackle and he had just 2 assists. What were the odds of that?

Not only did the D keep the Sycs scoreless, but they also outscored them with Keondre Jackson recording a pick six.
Illinois State D - 6 Indiana State O - 0. What were the odds of that?

On offense the two Redbirds with the longest rushes were not Blakemore, Mueller, Wright or Robinson. It was Annexstad and Martine, at 41 and 19 yards respectively. What were the odds of that?

None of this should be construed as a complaint. The results were baffling, surprising, confusing and it was great. After you get past the Ind St. pick 6 to start the game all the surprises were to the Redbird's advantage. Redbird Football is a Forrest Gump box of chocolates. You plunk yourself in your seat and you endure the elements for 3 hours. When it's over you sometimes get an unpredictable result that is much better than expected.

and the Barracuda has been avenged. They'll never make that mistake again.

Nice bounce back by the youngsters on the Redbird D. Jake Anderson has quietly moved into a starting DT position. He's a RS-Fr. that will be really good. He's already looking good.

I think Tye Niekamp took a beating against SDSU last week. I'm not sure that he was back to 100%, but he's another RS-Fr., and up until yesterday he was playing at the All-Conference level. That's saying a lot because we all know that the Valley is loaded. Fortunately some other LB'ers like Leyden chipped in and played well.

Jack Dwyer is another young defensive player I really like. The departure of Wilhoit and some LB'er injuries opened things up for Niekamp at LB'er. That hasn't happened for Dwyer at Safety. Dwyer is stuck behind Gearhart and Jackson. Juco transfer Hodgdon is another good Safety. I'm not saying that he should start over Gearhart or Jackson. We've seen how good they are. I'm just saying that Dwyer is all over the field making plays. He's at their level. If Dwyer had been a starter like Niekamp he would have a ton of tackles by now. Safety is very strong position for us. The defense has a bright future. Yesterday wasn't too bad either.

Fun fact - In the 3 seasons (2020,2021,2022) and 26 games leading up to the 2023 season the Redbirds scored 40 points just once. That was the '21 opener against Butler an FCS non-scholarship program. The Redbirds scored 49 in that game.

So far this season the Redbirds have scored 40 or more points 3 times in just 6 games.

I stayed up and watched the Idaho Vandals the Montana Grizzlies, two premier Big Sky programs. They both looked very, very good. Much like SDSU. We have to be consistently as good as yesterday to be a legitimate playoff team.

Great win yesterday.

Now it gets real. I have to think beating YSU is a near must if we are going to have any chance at the playoffs. There’s no way we are getting in at 7-4 this year.
