Not sure if this would be grad transfer or straight up transfer, have conflicting messages out there.

Ryan Welage, 6-9/205, stretch-4, transferring from San Jose St., originally from Greensburg, IN
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/ryan-welage

Avg’d 18 & 5 at SJSU this past season as a junior. Would have 1 year eligibility. Coach who recruited him resigned late last summer. New head coach must not have made a good impression. Team was 5-25 (1-17) in MWC.

Video on Verbal Commits . . . I can’t help but think Jimmy Chitwood only taller.

From The Athletic:

Ryan Welage, F, San Jose State: Welage tells The Fieldhouse that Xavier, UNC-Greensboro, Belmont and Baylor are the leaders for his services. He was also contacted by Loyola-Chicago and Illinois State on Thursday and he’s considering both schools. The junior forward averaged 18.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this past season. He will have to sit out next season and have one year left to play.

Two years of a scholarship for 1 year of a player when our scholarship situation is already iffy? Meh.

Illinois grad transfer Michael Finke has cut his list to Stanford, Nevada, Grand Canyon, Penn St, and Vanderbilt.

Interesting with Penn State being a conference school.

According to someone on this site, Coach Muller made a home visit last week, If we were truly interested, he would have made our team much better next year. My guess is Vanderbilt. Who knows?

This not a grad transfer, but a straight transfer:

Dedric Boyd, 6-4/180, SG, Brownsville, TN (Eastern Kentucky) - Frosh: sit 1, play 3
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/dedric-boyd
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBjS8OJWPVM&feature=youtu.be

Kid played on a really bad team in the OVC and I don't think their coach put any restraints on him. Coached canned at end of the season.

Averaged 13.2 ppg & 3.3 rpg in 27 minutes/game. Shot the most 3s (121) on the team, though he made only 28%. Overall shot 35%. Shot 83% from the line on 90 attempts. The video shows some talent, but the stats suggest a lack of discipline. Had 2.0 assists/game and 2.9 turnovers/game.

Dedric Boyd has heard from Liberty, Colorado State, Marshall, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, Tulsa, Bradley, Wofford. Team Thad is the AAU team Trace Young played on.

Grad transfer with two years. Was preseason all-conf selection before injuring his knee. He played in only their first two games this season.

The Madison paper reports he is expected to visit Wisconsin next week.

Boyd looks great. Put up really good numbers for a freshman in the OVC. 3* recruit listed at 6'4 180. http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/dedric-boyd

Malik Osborne is listed at 6'8 210 PF out of Matteson, IL which is just about an hour and 45 min away from campus. I think he would definetly benefit from the transfer RS year.

I love that both of these guys are freshman. If they were to come here, we'd get at least 2 years out of them. Neither really fits the "post help" that Muller is looking for.

So you're suggesting they go the sit 1, play 2, grad transfer 1 route? ;)

In today's CBB landscape, why wouldn't you assume that?

All of us want immediate transfers, but you have to remember how beneficial it can for them sitting out for the rest of the team. The 2017 team had Milik and the 2018 had Copeland going at them in practice everyday. The managers can't usually resemble a teams best scorer in the scout team

Similarly sized to Milik. Originally from Champaign and played at St. Thomas More before playing his senior season at Chicago Simeon. Went to a prep school out of HS. Sit 1 play 2.
