The word is everywhere that Duhon was supposedly fired (terminated, resigned under pressure or whatever) so why the dead silence from ISU? Just issue a simple tweet that duhon is no longer with ISU and be done. Stop the theatrics. The replacement in waiting is looking foolish the longer he sits on the sidelines

Silence on a perceived event is theatrics now? This board jumps the shark daily

yea you are right theatrics way too strong...but at least handle the termination and hiring in a manner where some coaches at the high school and college level are not needlessly making jokes/taking shots at ISU hoops program

You have to wonder what is the point where you waive the white flag and save the scholarships for next year? They have to get at least 2 kids that can at least dress next year, but after that can they find enough that is worth putting on scholarship at this point?

Absolutely! A whole bunch of teams are still waiting to determine if some of their players are going to the NBA draft or not. Under new NBA Draft rules, players are allowed to retain an agent to guide them through the process and then terminate them later on if they wish to return to school. What does that mean? There won't be significant clarity to who will be back for 19-20 until late May.

Late may recruiting is going to continue and this rule directly impacts it.

Odds of Gassman getting a scholarship and staying might be rising ... just a guess

I don't know the situation everywhere, but are any other MVC schools recruiting anyone in their 2019 class? I was reading the Indy State message board and they are not. I know UNI and Mo State are full for next year.

We make it sounds like this is a normal thing to have this many scholarships open, but doesn't seem like anyone else in the MVC is in this situation. Illinois is in the same bind, but they also have been bad and struggled to recruit for a few years.

There are still a lot of players available. We’ll fill the open schollies. Whether or not we’ll fill ‘em with good players, who knows?

:text-+1: exactly right, IMO We could still pull a couple of rabbits out of a hat but we are not sitting in a desirable place for 2019. Muller’s seat is a bit warm at a minimum due to a lack of success and his failure to close out some solid recruits for 2019 could light the his seat on fire should the next two seasons be similar in results to the last two seasons. I would guess that Muller has to be feeling some pressure to land some quality recruits.

I was thinking about the ISU scholarship situation today. I am not sure who Dan will sign, however at this point what is left to sign?

If players were really good, they would have been picked up by now. I did a quick scroll through the 247Sports top 250 players, and no more than 10 guys are not committed.

If guys are still available, my assumption is they just aren't great players, or they have off the court (academic, legal) issues. Either way, this seems to be Dan's traditional recruiting philosophy. He has brought in some talented players (Hawkins, Yarbrough, Lofton) - but they have a lot of baggage they bring with them. I am going to go out on a limb and say anyone who fills the remaining scholarships, is at best a 5 min a game player.

Not sure where they fill in, but tons of transfers on the board still.

I am also curious on the board's thoughts. Do incoming recruits place much weight on the revolving door at ISU? It seems like it would be fairly simple for the recruit or their family to notice that Dan has a high turnover rate. Do they connect the dots, that this could be related to the head coach? Could this deter talented players. Compared to Dana Ford, it seems like the players love playing for him. He has had quite the recruiting haul. I hope Dan has not become obsolete on the recruiting trail.

Transfers can be very good but many come at a high price too. (All too often too high IMO) Vast majority have to sit out a year so if ISU does not get a grad transfer then help next year is not there. Also the year the transfer is sitting out means the value of the transfer is diluted ... ie sit one/play two is 3 years of schollie for 2 years of play. Just can not have so many schollies idled as suddenly the team is short eligible quality players. That has bitten ISU hard the past two years.

Beyond that we also need to grab players that are not suffering academically. Example the Copeland year sitting out with schollie but not eligible to play is an example of a player overall that is looking to be “too costly” to the program given you get 2 years of marginal play for 3 scholarship years.

Walk-ons are important but if your walk-ons are playing heavy minutes then that is a big sign that a school’s recruiting process is failing (unless the walk-ons are playing at a high level which is not the case for ISU)
