I like how there is no source to this actually being true. Not saying it won't happen, but until I see a tweet from Jim Benson, I'm not buying it.

So did we (including me) make this Gassman thing much ado about nothing? He might not even leave.

I think that's the case. So how I've read this whole thread. He's leaving because he didn't get a scholarship. Then you read if he's offered one, he'll stay. No $hit, the university that you have 3 years of credits at wants to pay for your 4th year (and you can probably graduate after that and go somewhere as a grad transfer) or you can go to another college where only 75% of your credits transfer, and you'd still have to put in about 2 years to graduate and have to sit for a year only practicing. He doesn't look dumb. I would not blame him what ever he does, and infact if your not on scholarship the rules should be different, you should not have to sit out a year because you are paying your own way (that is a personal opinion and I'm sure I'll be ripped on for it).

Gassman should try to get a scholarship if he can make it happen. Best of luck to him wherever he lands. He is somewhat in no-mans land right now....meaning playing at a d1 program and probably feels he is worthy of a scholarship yet he is a walk-on with no scholarship. I feel he is a high quality walk-on but his overall talent is not D1 scholarship worthy. I hope he ends up at ISU as a walk-in but not on a scholly.

Virtually every program, every year, is going to lose a kid or two to transfer.

The Gas has worked very hard. I never thought he would be a contributing player here but he certainly changed my mind, he hit alot of important 3's for us, and he made himself into a much better player. Loads of respect for him and so easy to like. I'll miss him and I hope he gets to play significant minutes wherever he goes! Thank YOU IKE'ers!!

I speculate that Dan just had an honest conversation with him about playing time next year. Imagine defense had a lot to do with it.

Dan: Ike, I know you were the only player I didn’t have to teach shoot, but that is exactly why you don’t fit our culture.

Dan: I also know in the huddle you reminded me we don’t have to foul intentionally up 4, but that is exactly why you don’t fit our culture.

Dan: I also know that you don’t drink and I don’t either, but it’s been a rough 7 years and I’m gonna start partying like it’s 1998, and that is exactly why you don’t fit our culture...hmmm, I wonder if Sgt. Hulka has hops?

You're thinking of the wrong kind of hops. Dan's preparing for selling beer at Redbird.

He has earned a scholarship in my opinion. Hope that happens and he stays. He’s a solid contributor and has the type of character this team needs.

I hope he gets a scholarship because it is the right thing to do. He has helped us in games and has done everything we expected or wanted him to do....and more. I hope it doesn't drag on too long.

I went back and watched a few games recently. Gassman at the top of the 2-3 was our best defender. He understands how the 2-3 works and he busts his ass in it. Not a bad guy to have on the bench who can come in and knock down a three, get a hustle rebound and give you some solid zone defense.

Agree or disagree with you or Adunk, I don't know but I know this...he ain't on scholarship. So apparently Dan doesn't think so and Ike wouldn't be in the transfer portal.

I've come to believe, slowly over time, that he's our most reliable 3-point threat. (I could easily see Taylor own that spot next year) But he's certainly not a shot creator. So, JMO, but I think he's best suited for short spurts during the game, maybe 2 or 3 minutes, where we look to get him hot. A 3 point specialist off the bench is always an energy changer for the crowd...even simply putting the shot up creates good anticipation and engages the crowd. He also doesn't turn the ball over much, which I think has been overlooked a bit.

His overall defense - but in particular, man D - hurts him though, imo, from Dan's perspective. Hence, no scholarship. Dan doesn't deem him valuable enough to merit a scholarship right now. Which at the end of the day, right or wrong, is a shame for Ike.
