Is this game being promoted on campus at all besides the Black Out which likely won't work? Hopefully the students are at least talking about it. I've seen plenty of social media ads but again it's just for the little promo and not about the importance/size of the game itself or the opponent. But whatever...just play hard. As I said earlier, please do NOT come out flat or unprepared. None of that coming off a bye weak legs crap. Big game, we've got guys back off the IL, coming off a get-right win...we need to come out swinging.

agreed ... no excuses for a bye week after 4 games ... it should be an advantage in a game like this, where were the underdog.

So this game sets up well for our Redbirds to play up. And Spack has strong history playing SDSU, though the HC Stig retired after finally knocking off the NDSU. But the DC took over and is a SDSU guy .. so not much likely changed, especially since their roster barely turned over anyone.

I can see us competing for a half or so, especially if the offense comes out playing assertively, ad mixing it up all over the field. We know them, way better than they know us. Our defense is mostly new, and trending favorably given what we lost. Plus, none of these guys from offense played in SDSU game a year ago .... Annexstad, Mueller, Blakemore, TE Grandy. So we have a much better arsenal .. we just need to be ready for a very good team, and maybe catch them by surprise a little.

I’m not sure what type of promoting you have in mind? The social media accounts have 4 or 5 posts since Monday in regards to the game. They’ve indicated it’s the FCS defending champ, the number 1 team.

They’re doing a ticket pricing promotion as well, and a small giveaway to students too. Very small, but still something.

Marketing these days is heavily digital. They’re trying to meet the students where they are. On social media/their phones.

I can’t say what they’re doing on campus, because I’m not on campus. However, a blackout still counts as an extra to the game too. Even if you don’t like them.

Other than free beer or extra credit I’m wondering what boots on the ground ideas others have as well.

So far, I have 7 extra people coming to the game - everyone can work on getting a couple extra - game will get sold out. Feel free to stop by my Tailgate - all are welcome. Pulled Pork will be featured - in lot G83 towards the back NW corner. Look for the striped ISU flag. That promotion of TOP25 for $22 - is a good deal. Then remember to drink Empower the Nest from Keg Grove....

I've been excited about this game all week. It's like all the people rushing out and getting Powerball tickets when the Jackpot is over a billion dollars. The odds of winning are very low, but they don't mind. One ticket buys you a piece of the dream.
Upsets do happen. South Dakota went into Fargo and upset NDSU. That was an earth tremor because the Bison have fallen off. If we beat #1 South Dakota St. it will be a major quake that rocks the Valley.

I think we'll have a fairly good-sized crowd to start. I fear that the post half-time exodus could be even greater than usual. The game will start out with cool weather but it will turn cold, especially when you add in the breeze. Students are notorious for underdressing. One sweatshirt won't cut it. After the band plays and the fireworks are done the crowd will thin. It will up to us, the die-hard football fans, to help maintain the intensity.
On to Battle.

100% right re: meeting the students where they are. The social team does good work. I should clarify my earlier post: my concern was more about the content. (Blame it on my day job as a writer at a digital marketing agency.) The more serious fans generally just need a little awareness/reminder but the casual fans could use a jolt of context to get excited about this, or any, game. I personally have only seen the standard gameday/time/blackout posts in my feeds. But for any game, it's not always about just announcing it, but more why the game is important which can generate some enthusiasm. It's a balance of speaking to two audiences, which isn't easy, but can be done. Just my opinion. I also probably have not been served the same impressions on social as others, so that slanted my initial view somewhat...which I'll walk back now :). I just think a little more consistent contextual hype would be a good idea.

Re: campus, yes, I'm wondering the same thing, if the students are doing something unofficially. When I was there, this involved private FB groups, massive text threads, even larger online chat groups, private parties/bar gatherings, etc. Red Alert was super connected with each other in those days. Creating internal groundswells like that around an event can really pay off.

I can appreciate the response. As someone himself who also works within digital marketing and building brands it’s pretty proven that SEO and virtual space is going to be way more effective in these instances than any physical billboard etc on campus.

Is Isu running ads for the game around campus on social media platforms? If not they definitely should be. I think that’s a way to get to some casual ‘fans’.

If one of our players started dating Taylor Swift, that also has been proven to help. Maybe we try that?

Saw this chart and thought it was interesting. We did not score in the first quarter vs WIU or EIU.

EXACTLY what I was afraid of. Everyone knew there was a football game tonight except our football team. We've come out slow, timid and panicky. It was over 9 minutes in.

Deplorable. In huge games like this you just CANNOT get embarrassed at home. Yet, it doesn't feel surprising. Time for a new regime. Sick of shitting the bed in big games.

Burn the black unis. D is just getting schooled. It’s like PhD’s playing incoming frosh out there.

Nice to see a little spark of life, but this feels like one of those games where we claw back but either run out of time or face an insurmountable deficit because of the godawful start we had. Either way, a bad performance, AGAIN, on a big stage. And yes, please stop with the color-outs/alternate unis. They never work, in any sport here.

A completely unimportant side note: The all-black unis with the white helmets do look pretty cool. So we have that going for us, which is nice.

Too bad it's been wasted.
