“checks KenPom for 21-22 season, sees it’s empty”

UNCW lost 7 players to the portal, gained back 4 (3 of which were contributors on NCAA tourney teams), and kept their top player. Their head coach was new this past season, taking over a terrible program. I’m not saying they’re gonna be a great team, but it seems they could be better than this past season.

But, please, continue your ‘woe is me’ narrative.

Quick and easy unc Wilmington search produced this:

overall records:
2021- 7-10
2020- 10-22
2019- 10-23
2018- 11-21
2017 - 29-6 (ncaa first round loss)
2016- 25-8 (ncaa first round loss)

so things have gone way downhill since 17 (sound familiar?)
Bird friend points out 3 guys on the roster who were “contributers” to ncaa teams. Let’s examine:

james baker, morehead state. 7 pts 4 Rebs. Pretty much a no show in the ncaa.

Alec oglesby Cleveland state: 4 points 1 reb. Saw 15 mins in ncaa loss.

By my count that is two, not sure who the third is based on their official roster. Neither of these guys looks too daunting to me.

these guys are clearly a powerhouse. We should pack RBA like Larry bird is coming to town.

There’s obviously no reason to pack it based on the coach and players assembled in normal, I know that much
I don’t know…we could always sell home Redbird games to other coaches as a showcase on “Basketball 101: What Not to Do”.
That might help fill the arena?

This is going to be a year where the valley is stacked up top. I don't mind playing a couple games to get the team to gel. I am not ready to slam the schedule because every game isn't against a P5. We will get chances for some big wins in conference.

My bad. I mixed up Nicholls State with Norfolk State. Still, the kid from Nicholls avg'd 9.3 / 3.1 . . . So, a solid contributor. Oglesby from Cleveland St. was a true frosh who avg 4.3 / 1.3 from the 2-guard spot in 16 min/game.

The kid from Morehead wasn't a 'no-show' in the NCAA. They played WVU, so it wasn't a crap team. He only took 3 shots, played 34 minutes . . . Do they have to score lots in order to be considered 'showing up' for you? Looking at his season numbers, appears he wasn't expected to be the shooter and put up big numbers. He was a solid contributor, much like every team needs.

But I guess they only count if they're superstars.

And you didn't bother to consider that I said they're coach was new (and what an effing year to be new as HC). The program was tanking. New coach with a limited amount of recruiting he could do during a pandemic . . . Did you expect him to turn them into a tourney team his first year?

My take is I think they will be better this upcoming season. Definitely not a tourney team, but not a 250 RPI team either. But I guess you're the expert.

Not an expert but not hard to see this is a quad 4 game. Dan has many of those planned from what I can tell. Usually coaches do this when they’re about to get canned and he has a new AD In the building.

JFC, I’m just trying to point out that they may not be as bad as Chicago St., which is what others have implied. And also to point out that last year’s RPI is not conclusive evidence that they’ll be horrible this year. So I don’t want to hear incessant whining when they come in and give us fits . . . or even beat us.

Some of you see no good in us or other teams. To you, if we lose, we lost to a bad team, so we must be a bad team. If we win, then we beat a bad team, so we’re still bad. We could (hypothetically) play and beat Gonzaga and you would complain about how bad Gonzaga has become. Players who come here must suck, because they came here. Coaches who come here must suck, because they came here. You’re an effing depressing group.

Who cares. You're talking about the difference between shit from cat and shit from a dog playing shit from a -- well I guess a bird would be best. They all are in the bottom 100.

The difference is, I doubt GonzAga is pumping up Bellarmine and Tarleton like they’re a “must see” game against a potential Quad 1 opponent.
For crying out loud, grab a glove and get in the game, son.
