This was the toughest year in a long time for Redbird football. Those comparing Spack and Dan are ridiculous. They are just angry and not informed about what Spack has built or what was here before him. Do we need a QB, yes. I am excited for next year, lots of talent coming back and Brock will recruit the transfer portal.

I hope the new AD gets the indoor practice facility into the next phase, that will help recruiting.

I said many times give 14 the ball to see what he could do, well he did not produce. It's unfortunate because I was hoping he would be a gun slinger.

Enjoy the off season fellow tailgaters see you all next season.
I agree with you '04 but the only thing with Waring I would qualify is he did not have much in the way of offensive coaches that helped a young QB much. Absolutely though I think they should be looking for a QB where ever they can find one. Teams should always be looking for a solid QB recruiting out of HS or the Portal.

Maybe he stayed ‘cause no one else wanted him.
I mean, successful FCS coaches are constantly picked off for P5 jobs, yet not once have we heard of Spack ever being seriously considering sundered.
Interesting…
Who really cares though.
Watch now: Brock Spack on brink of Illinois State football history

Article above from Sept 7, 2021:

Spack’s name has come up in several coaching searches over the years. He said he has turned down “three, maybe four” head coaching offers from FBS programs.

“One was really close. I just thought the timing was really bad. I just didn’t see it,” he said. “(Former Purdue) Coach (Joe) Tiller use to say if you’re going to take another job, you better be really excited about it. If you’re not excited about it, you shouldn’t take it.

"I haven’t gotten into anything I thought was better than this for me anyway. I didn’t want to leave. People here have been really good to me and my family. I felt like this was home.”

Evidently you do. You keep posting here even after saying you were done.

I’ve got two or three sites I go to when I’m bored. After a long day of golf and beers, I find myself here. Kinda like watching a car chase on the 405, or a train wreck. Hard to look away.

Explain to me exactly why this is dumb?
Dude literally made quarters just 1 true season ago, gave the eventually National Champion NDSU the toughest game they played all playoffs and most of regular season ... and without any pass game. But sure, let's fire that guy because 2021 sucked coming out of year our offense and defense were decimated due much moreso to pandemic than graduation. And yet he gave many very good teams a scare or beat them .. with 60+ FR and just 8 SRs .. but yeah, let's fire that guy because he lost to WIU and ISUb.

ISUr is very highly regarded/respected by test of the MVFC. MVFC is the SEC of FCS, in fact, arguably better of late. OUtsiders look at 4 quarterfinals in 10 years and are impressed. There are only 2 programs that can say they have done better the last 10 years, NDSU and SDSU .. and they are both top 5 programs in conference. Only other program that can argue they are right there with us these last 5 and 10 years .. that is UNI ... no one else.

So we are a top 3 to 4 program in what is clearly the best conference in FCS .. arguably in FCS history ... but sure, let's fire that guy.

edit: NDSU and SDSU are top 5 programs in all of FCS.

Since 2016 we have 6-5 or worse every season but one. We haven’t had a relevant offense since 2015. We are NOT a top 3 or 4 team in this conference. We are where we are at because of his coaching and leadership. You act like everything is just fine and it isn’t. I hope I’m wrong. I want to be wrong. I hope next year is turned around. This year is not a blip on the radar. It is a culmination of the last 5 years. You should also talk to some former coaches who have gone on to better jobs and find out how things are going here.

You all have been bitching about no offense for years. About how Spack can’t get the right offensive coordinator, can’t develop a QB, can’t recruit a QB, is too predictable with his play calling, yada, yada, yada. Yet Spack is the best thing ever to happen to Redbird football.
You all (you, Total Red, MadBird and others) remind me of Bears fans still living off the ‘85 season. You’re Spacks’ lap dogs.
Good boy…woof, woof.

I don't know how closely you read the board. Timmy, Madbird and I are nobody's lapdogs. We acknowledge the fact that Coach Spack has done things no other Redbird coach has done like take the team to the National Championship in 2015. In 2019 the team went to the 3rd round of the playoffs with two road playoff victories. The 2020 team was set to be even better. We would have had Romeo McKnight, John Ridgeway and QB Brady Davis who was healthier than he had ever been. All those players and more were gone by the Spring '21. So yes, we're rational, fair-minded people that acknowledge both the good and the bad. We plead guilty to that. We don't qualify as lapdogs but you have to own that fact that you're one of the jackals that shows up when things go poorly. You don't show up in the South Dakota thread, you don't show up in the N. Iowa thread. Those were ranked teams that Redbird Football beat this season. There was nothing to whine or complain about so you were dead silent. What kind of fans show up when things go wrong? Scavengers. Well at least you're good at something.

Just curious how long you have been a fan? My reason for asking is I graduated in 82, been a fan for over 40 years and I know our dismal history. If you suffered through some of that Spack still looks good

You assume the "grass will be greener" ... there is like 80-90% chance, we will never have this kind of sustained success again. So what is your plan ?? Who is YOUR guy who will do better than Spack ?

Names please ! Who specifically will take THIS job and stay past 2-3 years ??

He is not seeing past yesterday. He has no clue how hard it is to sustain winning at this level. If we went off his logic every coach would be fired in the valley.
