I think the play was to look inside for Chase. He was double teamed with nowhere to go. A timeout should've been called then if not sooner.
No timeouts left to call. HCRP used the last one after EU hit the first of two to go up by three, 57-54.

Banks would be great in a role where he gets 15 minutes of PT a game. Once we have gotten into Valley play, you really start to see his limitations with 30+ minutes a night. The problem is Pedon doesn’t trust anyone else so we are stuck with 20 seconds of banks possessions dribbling in circles.
Seeing Banks go in the lane on three separate occasions and get stuffed was more than enough for me.

The problem is most kids from the portal know where they are headed or have hardly any stats. Their playing time is minimal. I would go after jucos or freshman.
I would like to see Sissoko’s scholarship go to bring in another freshman.
I would like to see next year’s minutes go to:
Kinziger
Burford
Davis
Foster
Walker
Pence
Daugherty
Norris
Another 2024 recruit

These four would have to fight for minutes. If they can’t accept that they are free to hit the portal.
Banks
Poindexter
Kasubke

We as fans have to just face up to the fact ISU is not a very good basketball team. And then all the discussions that need to be held starting from the top down need to happen now, not after the season ends. What is the plan going forward? The President needs to be asked. The athletic director needs to be asked. The coach needs to be asked. What is YOUR plan from all three individually separately moving forward to make ISU a winning program again? This is going to affect the whole athletic program and University. We are not at the “joke” level yet, but trending in that direction. If you polled the average college basketball fan which are the top five men’s programs in Illinois, my educated guess we do not make the cut. That is a travesty.

Unfortunately, this game reminded me a lot of HCDM's swan song. Lots of perimeter passing without a lot of penetration or results.

HCRP did call out four of his veterans, to a point, on post game radio. Referenced he can not have four experienced players go 0-18 from the field and that the expectation is more consistency in terms of what to expect game-to-game. If you back into it ... Lewis, Kasubke, Poindexter, Banks. Six combined points, all from charity stripe. Lewis with eleven boards; otherwise, nothing noteworthy. Coach referenced that they have been trying to keep things positive and that the previous two games were beginning to show returns.

He also said he felt good going into the game, for what it is worth.

Even the guys that produced had some headscratchers. Burford posing upon a three point release that ended up an air ball, and Foster firing up a quick three with 2 1/2 minutes left and down five - then fouled out next trip on defense.

I think he was talking about calling time out when we had the ball down 2 inside of :10. Soon there after Kinziger picked up his dribble and was forced into a travel. All happened right in front of our bench. We had nothing going on and it was logical to call time out and set up something, anything.

Someone has already alluded to this but we need to recruit over Kasubke, Poindexter and Banks. Two thirds of the season over, we know what the current players can do.
Though I like Lewis’ rebounding, he has to have 6-8 points a game to make an impact.

Start Foster, Walker, Kinziger, Davis and Burford.

I would argue we’re at the “joke level”, and have been for years.

The average college basketball fan probably couldn’t name five college basketball programs in the state of Illinois.

I probably should have limited it to state of Illinois knowledgeable fans. There was a time when U of I did not want to play ISU, SIU, and even Bradley. And that was not because it was a weak strength of scheduling.

The plan is simple. Recruit better players. Can this coaching staff do it?

Antonio Reeves is shooting 43% from beyond the three point line this season.

We need a bench coach…yet again. Someone who has the ability to think on his feet in the heat of competition. We still don’t have that individual. Crap.

That was just painful for the most part. Burford and Foster remain scorers, and it is clear Johnny and Walker need to be on the floor. Luke gives us nothing. Lewis is not helping much - getting lost on defense, and gives almost nothing on offense. Banks was very disappointing today - his first half of the season was good - now, nothing except a LOT of dribbling. He is in danger of getting the nickname of Sippy Cup - always dribbling.
Johnny Walker would seem an appropriate sponsor for this team.

When Sox is getting cranky, either he's out of Ensure or The Birds are struggling. Lewis at least got 11 boards

That’s easier said than done. These last 4 on your roster have played significant minutes in the past and probably have people in their ear thinking they should be playing more. Heck, we had someone amongst this last 4 that felt we werent using their kid correctly in this offense.

At this point, you hope they just go elsewhere but I feel like Pedon is going to have to have some difficult conversations with these last 4 based on your roster construction.

From what we’ve seen in Conference play this year, I’m not sure any of the four would get any significant playing time on any relevant team (which is why they are Redbirds). I would be excited if any/or all of them came back and proved me wrong. Watching Bradley and Indiana State show how bad the three guards listed above are compared to what it will take to compete for a championship.

Why not just send the four packing?

Watching Indiana State and Bradley game. Pressure packed 3 pointer after 3 pointer. Bradley missed a couple but ISU red no where near these two teams.
