The problem the valley is experiencing now is that the power five are no longer the power five. You have to add the Big East, I hear they are pretty good from time to time, the A10, AAC, and let's not forget the MWC. These conferences will gobble up multiple bids moving forward leaving the valley in the dust of a one bid conference. We failed to make any changes and now we are left with the crumbs. This year our representative was a 15 seed. The best days of the valley are behind us.

If Murray State was in the MVC, it would be business as usual as the MVC would’ve added its 11th straight 1st round win. In a way, Murray would’ve covered for how bad everyone else was this year - much like Nevada/Utah St covered for the 16th RPI MWC.

But for whatever reason, the stubborn decision-makers of this league think we’re an exception to the rule when it comes to upper mid-majors and the league paid dearly for it. Sadly, I see no signs of vision.

part of the challenge is that the power conferences (plus the AAC) have grabbed nearly any and every team of substance. With only a handful of exceptions the best talent/coaches/ads all want to be part of the power conferences as that is where the limelight and money resides. Years ago ISU (and other MVC teams) could at a minimum compete year in and out with the middle to lower end of the power conferences. That is no longer the case.
