Correct. He got beat in the corner completely out of fishers line of sight as his man was moving to free throw Line. This is not on fisher one bit.

Getting beat so clean was on Cope. As a help defender(Fisher), or any defender in man-to-man...it is ALWAYS your responsibility to stay on an imaginary line between your man and the ball - Always - WITHOUT turning your back to the ball (if possible).

Fish got caught losing complete track of the ball. That's on him. Coming off like a know-it-all but this is junior high teaching, literally. Stay on a line between your man and the ball, and do not turn your back on the ball.

No offense to my buddies Brickers and DW and the rest of you peeps, you cats know where I typically stand when it comes to the crowd here. Fisher had a really GOOD game, happy for him. But he completely lost track of the ball, which is a 7 deadly (maybe THE deadliest) when it comes to playing excellent...good...shoot any defense! I do realize we're talking only 1 play (by a player who played well) out of a whole bunch of possessions...but...

I harp on it because it was a one...point...game. These little things add up, and for whatever reason over the last 2 and a half seasons, we've had a snowball effect of these little things run over the confidence of the program.

Still rooting for everybody who's a Redbird, and want more than anything for Dan to be the guy to get us back to The Dance. THIS year.

But ... big long slow sigh.

PS. I really like Dan, really like everything he stands for. If there is not a marked improvement in the floor product and attendance plummets, folks, he gone. He won't get another season.
*If you think The President and BoT is/are unaware of what's going on, and just do not care, you are mistaken.
*They are fans of Dan but quite aware of the program's trend, and that supercedes the coach.

Having to claw back against a bad team, at home, sadly isn't unusual. Remember Chicago St and Cleveland St last year? Same thing.

Rather win ugly than lose pretty, so take what can be taken from this and get ready for the next one.

I hope this is correct.

So until the end of the year why don't you put your shoulder fired rocket launcher away and just root for the Redbirds? EVERYBODY knows where you stand.

I root for them. I have no problem with the players, I'm sure if they were coached well they could probably be successful.

I fear that Muller finishes .500, 5th in the MVC, and he stays around. There is no guarantee Muller gets fired.

Also, the athletic department needs house cleaning as well if there is any hope of future success.

That clip isn’t Fisher’s fault at all. Zach tried to use the baseline as a defender and failed miserably. Fisher wasn’t in position to help unless he watched Zach get beat and could come over instantly. Blaming a big for not cleaning up for the guard across the court is stupid.

Yeah because isu guards never get beat so why would we expect any help defense???

Also fisher was in the middle of the lane, that’s like you know right next to the basket, where the guy with the ball was heading. Might not be a bad idea to try and protect it

Copeland and fisher both failed miserably on the play. That’s the type of defense that cannot happen at the D1 level.

You’ve clearly never played ball. If Fisher overcommits to the help then he gets beat by his man 10/10 times.

I think what he's saying is you have to have awareness of where the ball is, while also keeping an eye on your man. If that's what Jammin meant, then it's hard to disagree.

Watched the clip.. certainly the guard got beat but if anybody thinks how fisher was defending was correct I am shocked. Fundamental of defense is ball awareness. Who can argue that point especially when uic ended up with a layup

I highly recommend the use of the "foe" feature. I just got through this whole thread in about three minutes.

Anyway, the game was ugly and should've never been close as it was. The good news is, the lessons can be taught after a win. It was sloppy, we turned the ball over way too much, and had a lot of unforced errors. The defense wasn't as bad as you might think. UIC came in to the game shooting in just above 30% from 3 and shot nearly 35%. I'd say at least 5 of their 9 makes were well contested or deep with shot clock winding down.

Keith had a quiet 16/14 and Rey had a quiet 16 himself. I think it would be beneficial for the team if Cope was more of a catch and shoot or 2-3 dribble, collect, and pass guy. His ball care yesterday was terrible despite having a couple of really nice dimes, specifically that one to Chas for the easy dunk. Tone should play more for sure. Should be more in the 18-20 min range rather than 12.5.

Copeland showed his clutch shooting ability with the final shot. Unfortunately, it had to happen to get the win, but it's good to know that someone on the team has the ability. Regardless of the opponent, it feels nice to be on the other side of blowing a 10 point lead with 3 minutes left. I've said this before but this is a game the last year's team, in the same situation, would've lost. They would've dropped their heads and felt sorry for themselves. The team didn't lose that fight and won a game only making two 3-pointers. When does that happen in today's game?

Ugly, but a win is a win. On to UTSA for our first non-Redbird arena win of the season.

Personally, I don't understand the use of the "foe feature" and why anyone would want to use it (aside from politics, language, etc). I guess I'm different in that I enjoy everyone's posts. I like to hear both side...extreme or not.

I do enjoy your posts and i also think Jammin's posts...I just think he's maybe a bit overly passionate (but so am I at times).

Anyway, we're all fans of Redbird sports, otherwise we wouldn't be here - right? The truth is, it's a bit ugly to be a Redbird basketball fan for the past 20 years.

Better days will be ahead. Just need some major changes to get back on track.

Passionate is accurate. The past two years specifically have been so brutal for me as a passionate fan and I have such a hard time accepting mediocrity in this current state of the MVC.

I’m dying for an isu ncaa tournament bid. 21 years is far too long

I didn’t notice if anyone else posted this or not but my lord, that was maybe the worst crowd I’ve seen at Redbird in my years going. There may have been smaller crowds but it was absolutely silent most of the game. There was no crowd response trying to encourage the team to come back or trying to show energy when UIC took over in the second half. Don’t interpret this as me blaming the fans this was 100% a result of the product in the court. I hope that Dietz and some of the board was there last night to see how bad things have really gotten. If there isn’t a change soon with this program that is the future of all the home games.

I thought it was the worst non-storm crowd I have ever witnessed at the Arena. It made the old Basketball Travelers Classic feel like a rock concert.

Agreed. And again, KF played a nice game overall. However that lack of basic fundamental defense sent me into a meltdown. Copelands defensive positioning there combined with having flat out no awareness on help side is frustrating. It’s hard to understand how it happens at this level. Glad to see many posters being unbiased on this.
