Agree. Boogie will keep his starting spot and Copeland will be the 2 guard. We should have way more depth also

My bad! Forgot about the vacant spot by Madison. Post has been updated to reflect that reminder.
Hopefully Copeland is everything we are hoping he is.

really hopeful that one of the two big freshman is capable of being a starter. No doubt that is a lot to ask. Certainly that would be the ideal situation as Muller could then sub in someone like Tinsley for whomever is starting that game slow (hopefully that is no one) or struggling....tinsley could sub for a guard or big and still keep the in game players in their flow while ISU also maintains a well rounded fully capable team out on the floor.

I think if either freshmen would be a starter it would be Abdou for his versatility. Phil is for sure a starter but lacks a jump shot. It would get very congested in the paint with Phil and Rey playing similar games down low.

What I like about this is that I think Boogie is going to be a very good player in 2018-19. If Ndiaye or Rey are good enough to beat him out for his starting spot, this is going to be a heck of a season.
Practices are going to be great. Regardless of who ends up starting, this team was made better just by adding Rey, Ndiaye, Fisher, Boyd, Hillsman, and Jefferson to the practices. The starters are going to be pushed very hard. Last season the starters did not have that.
Cannot wait till November!!!

Seems to me that you have no point, other than if Loyola ends up being better than Illinois State next season you can say “I told you so”, and if Illinois State ends up being better than Loyola (which I am already saying they will) because of the top ten players being healthy AND eligible, You can say “I told you Illinois State would not beat Loyola unless they got better play from other players other than the Big Three”.

Or is It that Illinois State doesn’t have anyone capable of stopping Loyola’s Big three, and you are sticking to that?

Just what I said....Loyola is the team to beat in my opinion and your notion that they are nothing to worry about is unrealistic given what they return plus some good new players. Best current estimate of the likelihood of winning the MVC next season :

Loyola 45%
ISU 25%
SIU 15%
Bradley 5%
remainder 10%

Tough to put a precise number down especially at this time but seems something close to these percentages. Maybe Loyola is 40% and ISU is 30% but in my mind clearly Loyola is the team to beat.
I tend to agree that Loyola is the team to beat, but it has more to do with two decades worth of watching ISU basketball fall short of expectations.

I'll take our talent over Loyola's. I'll take our experience over Loyola's. I'll take our coaching staff over Loyola's.

But...

LU 71, ISU 66 on Arch Madness Sunday. No matter how the season plays out, (we could sweep the conference schedule!) I'd keep that prediction until we get over the NCAA tourney hump.

I'm sorry. Maybe our talent is better. I'm not sure how our experience is better considering they made a Final Four run last year and learned how to beat some darn good teams. But you completely lost me when you said you would take our coaching staff over Loyola's!! Unless their staff all resigned and I missed it how can you say that about a staff that went to a Final Four when we haven't even made the tournament??

AND Loyola made that run with no prior experience. How did they do that.
2018-19 will be about this Redbird team, and they do have more experience coming back than Loyola. Look at the Bears. They made it to a Super Bowl. Didn’t help them the next year, or since.
Illinois State will probably start Five Seniors (Fayne, Yarbrough, Evans, Tinsley, Copeland).
Loyola will probably start Two Seniors (Custer, Townes)
I would say Illinois State will have more experienced players.
Let’s see how Loyola handles it when they have some serious injury problems. They dealt with zero injuries the whole MVC season. I do not see them having a bench, or bench experience to deal with what Illinois State went through this past season.

Isn't Copeland a junior?

Academically he is a senior. Two years JC & sat out 2017-18 due to not qualifying academically fall semester. Hopefully NCAA will grant him another year of eligibility.

He doesn't have to be granted another year by the NCAA. Next year is the 4th year of his 5 year clock.

So he is a Senior with Junior Eligibility. Same as Hein. So academically we have Six Seniors playing this year. Eligibility wise, Four Seniors.

I'm guessing ZC will be a junior academically. Doubt he completed enough credits in 1 semester to be a senior but I guess could over the summer.

If Boogie improves during the 2018-19 season like he did last season it will be difficult to keep him off the floor for many minutes if at all. He has a very high ceiling.
