If it is Schertz, does Robbie Avila follow him home. It'll be bryce drew or Schertz.
Yes.If it is Schertz, does Robbie Avila follow him home.
Jayson Kent, too.If it is Schertz, does Robbie Avila follow him home.
I almost forgot that Schertz was close to the AD that either got fired/resigned. That might come in to play in his decision. If it is Schertz, does Robbie Avila follow him home.
Funny how the board has been preaching to not go with a school tie-in (former coach or player) as it never seemingly ends well ... yet we will still automatically go there.Rod Strickland?
I prefer to keep good coaches in our conference. Makes for a stronger conference. Please be Wardle
I’ve never “preached against” hiring a coach that has ties to Illinois State. I wasn’t against the Muller hire. I would have taken Steve Fisher, Chris Collins or Roger Powell Jr, (to name a few) in a heartbeat.Funny how the board has been preaching to not go with a school tie-in (former coach or player) as it never seemingly ends well ... yet we will still automatically go there.
Did okay for Jim Boeheim, Roy Williams, Matt Painter, Fred Hoiberg, Penny Hardaway......Funny how the board has been preaching to not go with a school tie-in (former coach or player) as it never seemingly ends well ... yet we will still automatically go there.
Favorite sons occasionally work out. However the odds are against them, and are harder to discard. ISU should have realized they were playing the Les Card and asked for a redealDid okay for Jim Boeheim, Roy Williams, Matt Painter, Fred Hoiberg, Penny Hardaway......
Greg McDermott did pretty well at UNI before moving on.
Bryan Mullins is on the Muller track....
And yes there are tons of examples where it failed.... Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, etc.
Rod Stickland is 6-40 as a college basketball coach.
Nice arena, but a college arena needs to be on campus. I wish that they had just renovated Alumni Hall instead.Merciful. I really don't know squat about Mr. Stubblefield, but it never really happened for him. I have watched DePaul from time to time, just for old time's sake, and they have really been bad over his tenure. He's a hard working dude, up and down the sidelines, hollering and pointing and so forth, but nothing translated. I can't imagine what the problem is there, nice arena, nice school, nice conference, you would think at least potentially a very viable NIL set up, good alumni network and all. But been so cold there for so long . . . . .
Paris Parham has been an assistant. I always thought he'd climb higher.
My guess would be that DeVries only leaves for Iowa or Creighton. While a sexy hire seems necessary to put correct the inexplicable lack of "oomph" for a Big East program in friggin' Chicago, Schertz would be smart schematically. Funny to hear names like Hurley (Sun Devil Bobby), even Huggins in one article (after his anti-Catholic slur against Xavier, nah).
A Tom Crean reference made me think....not sure what but it caused pause. Is Richard Pitino ready for a reset/second chance after his Minnesota debacle (and would in-conference rivalry with his pops be a draw or non-starter)
Drew may do well in a reset, but is there enough "flair" for a conference built on "face" coaches even before the NIL era?
Wardle probably even more too vanilla. I'm split on whether DeVries would answer a call or sit tight for Iowa or Ames.
Charting the opposite flavor, the AAU friendly young-ish "urban" assistant types (Anderson, Dildy before) and the sage-ish trustworthy grandpa guys are been-there/done-that. (Leitao, Wainright, Purnell)
In the end, Wade of McNeese, with the shady LSU vintage, but Richmond panache might be snake-oily enough to check some of the pizzazz boxes.
...yeah. I predict him.
Hurley would be a really cool get. He annoyed the heck out of me when he played, but that's a nice profile name for a desperate program.Coaching Search: DePaul
The coaching carousel is officially turning. DePaul athletic director DeWayne Peevy relieved Tony Stubblefield of his duties on Monday, marking the first midseason, high-major opening of the cycle. Stubblefield went 28-54 over two-and-a-half seasons in Chicago. After a promising first year, the...burnerball.com
